Today marked the first day of F8, Facebook's annual developer conference, and the company announced a ton of stuff! Some of it is bigger than others,..

TechCrunch wins for best--most comprehensive--post on F8.  Key points:

 

* 360-Degree Videos: FB supports 360-degree (3D, spherical) videos in the newsfeed (and Oculus); i.e., virtual reality display for the feed. Keep your anti-nausea meds at the ready.

 

* Video Embeds: You can embed your FB videos on other sites (and FB will probably stick ads in the embed).

 

* Messenger: Developers will be able to add Messenger features to other applications; you'll be able to integrate third-party apps inside Messenger; you'll be able to contact businesses via Messenger.

 

* Comments: They'll display in real time.

 

* SDK for IoT: Tastes as good as it sounds!

 

* Analytics for Apps: Stats for developers!

 

* LiveRail: More ads!

 

Bottom line: FB really, REALLY wants its hand in everything we do, everywhere on the web.

You want good advice on the FB? Go to Jon Loomer, whose common-sense approach always makes me smile. To paraphrase...

* Should you adjust your strategy every time someone at Facebook hiccups? Nope. 

* Should you share things you don't want to share because of reports on the algorithm change du jour? Nope.

* Should you figure out what you want to share, why you want to share it, and then share it appropriately? Yep, that's pretty much it.

Do you know what pareidolia is? Do you know about framing and how it connects to pareidolia? Do you know the 3 types of brand messages to use?


If you answered "no" to any one of these, you are going to want to read this article. Written by branding professional Laura Petrolino, she takes us deeper into successful brand storytelling.


Understanding what pareidolia is and it's link to storytelling is crucial. From there you can to better framing, and then move on to improved messaging.


Dig into this article if you want better brand storytelling for your business. The only thing I wish the author had done for us is give us a few brand storytelling examples. Hopefully next time. That being said, the information here could still make a world of difference for you.
