Jessica Kelly's insight:

Hey, look... It's DiFi! (Sorry -- California girl here.)

So, yes, of course everyone wants to be safe from terrorists. They're terrorists, right? Does this bill do that? Do we trust, say, Facebook to report on the right people? I'm guessing "no" on both (and more) counts.

All Your Social Media Posts Now Sorted by Location and Up for Sale | VentureBeat

All Your Social Media Posts Now Sorted by Location and Up for Sale | VentureBeat | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it
Geofeedia geolocates all your social media postings by name and location and then posts them for the world to see.
Jessica Kelly's insight:

It's not all bad news:

"The good news for those wishing to opt out of seeing their name on a virtual push-pin in their hometown is they can use their privacy settings on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media services to the fullest extent. Doing so means their photos and musings would theoretically be off-limits to Geofeedia clients."

However:

"But this isn’t so if a friend saves them and then reposts into the ether."

No, this isn't surprising, but I think we can sigh sadly anyway.

Facebook's Facial-Recognition Capabilities Are About to Get a Little Creepier | Digiday

Facebook's Facial-Recognition Capabilities Are About to Get a Little Creepier | Digiday | SocialMoMojo Web | Scoop.it

Facebook is developing an algorithm that recognizes and tags people using other characteristics, like body poses, hair and clothing. The tool, which is still being developed, will likely be used on its new photo-sharing app Moments. In a test, the experimental algorithm was able to detect people’s identities 83 percent of the time. Not surprisingly, there are many privacy concerns with it, but Facebook claims it can alert people that their photo is being uploaded without their consent.

Jessica Kelly's insight:

"If you're the type of person who ducks out of photos to avoid being tagged, Facebook is on to you." Yep, that's me. Dammit, Facebook.
