Announcing TLDR: A Media Curated By The Entire Scoop.it Community

Announcing TLDR: A Media Curated By The Entire Scoop.it Community | Social Media News & Tutorials | Scoop.it

Excerpt from article on Scoop.it Blog:
"You are now over 1 million curators on Scoop.it – content marketers, community managers, thought leaders and knowledge managers: curation has demonstrated its effectiveness in helping built visibility and reputation for pros and businesses.

But the point now is … we love reading what you curate!
We are excited to announce “TLDR by Scoop.it!“

TL;DR, as you know, means “Too Long, Didn’t Read.” TLDR by Scoop.it is a digest of content curated by the Scoop.it community. It captures the time saving benefit of curation in this overloaded Internet.

Make no mistake: curated content isn’t always faster to read; one could even argue that the curator’s insight adds to the reading time. This is valid. But the real time-consuming task on the Internet is not reading good content. It’s finding good content; extracting the signal from the noise. Once all search and filtering time is factored in, human curation by like-minded experts is the most time effective way to read relevant content. Hence, TLDR.

TLDR shows your work to the world: it offers direct access to relevant, curated content to a whole new audience..."

What Happens When You Like Everything On Facebook

Mat Honan liked absolutely everything he saw on Facebook for 48 hours as an experiment to see how it would change what Facebook would show him. We like Mat Honan. Unfortunately, we weren’t surprised — nor did we like — what happened. “After checking in and liking a bunch of stuff over the course of an hour, there were no human beings in my feed anymore. It became about brands and messaging, rather than humans with messages.”

I like everything. Or at least I did, for 48 hours. Literally everything Facebook sent my way, I liked---even if I hated it.

The average Visit-per-Pin increased 172% and the average Pageviews-per-Pin jumped 304% over the same time period."

I think that, additionally, it's worth noting that the article does not speculate on what caused this improvement. It's clear though that obviously, Pinterest is making changes that are driving improvements in ROI.

Snapchat CEO: Ads Are Coming Soon

Snapchat CEO: Ads Are Coming Soon | Social Media News & Tutorials | Scoop.it
said the ads would not be targeted
Kimberly Castleberry's insight:

Snapchat Gets Ads?

I have really mixed feelings on this.

The market is definitely saying they're tired of ads - yet well done ads continue to work.

The market is also saying they're tired of aggressive data tracking and privacy infringement and I have to note the Snapchat has "said the ads would not be targeted" which is an interesting move.

Snapchat also says that users may choose whether or not to view the adds, so I assume they will arrive like a message from a friend, and you can open them or ignore them.

That still makes them clutter - but also makes it more incentived for the ads to be interesting to get that open click.

Yelp can manipulate ratings, court rules

Yelp can manipulate ratings, court rules | Social Media News & Tutorials | Scoop.it
Yelp adamantly denies giving its paying clients more favorable reviews, but even if such allegations could be proved, said the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, Yelp is entitled to set a price for its ads - and the businesses reviewed have no legal right to a high rating. The court upheld a federal judge's dismissal of a proposed class-action damage suit by small-business owners who claimed Yelp's sales representatives told them their ratings would depend on their decision to buy ads. Tracy Chan, a San Francisco dentist, said a Yelp sales representative offered her "lots of benefits" for advertising, then removed nine five-star ratings from her page a few days later - ratings that were restored after she signed an advertising contract. Yelp's ratings, based on reviews by members of the public, are within its discretion, Berzon said - a "benefit" the company chooses to provide. Because the company's ads also have value, she said, "any implicit threat by Yelp to remove positive reviews absent payment for advertising was not (legally) wrongful."
Kimberly Castleberry's insight:

Yelp can manipulate ratings, court rules

Stop advertising with Yelp? Your good reviews can magically go poof. And the law says they have this right.

What do you think about this as a business owner... what about as a site owner?

15 Blog Design Hacks To Maximize Social Sharing

The pointer I would add to this article is to make sure that your social share buttons LOOK like the graphics provided by the social site.

Those native graphics carry high amounts of intrinsic trust and are more likely to be clicked (and thus shared) than overly stylish graphics that don't match the originals.

Yes, I'm well aware the originals are rather ugly from a designer standpoint, and the tradeoff is certainly yours, but generally most people want the MOST shares they can get from their buttons and the native-looking ones simply out perform.
