Curating vs. Collecting on Twitter for the Education Professional

Curating vs. Collecting on Twitter for the Education Professional | Sociale media voor de groene sector | Scoop.it

NDgrazer's insight:

Silvia Rosenthal Tolisano has an interesting and highly visual post on collecting vs. curating with Twitter, and on the curation potential Twitter has in store for those involved in education.

She quotes Mike Fisher writing: "Collecting is what kids do when asked to find resources for a particular topic. Usually, it represents the first 3 or 4 hits on a Google search, without meaning, discernment, or connections.

Curating is different. It’s the Critical Thinker’s collection, and involves several nuances (see Figure 1) that separate it as an independent and classroom-worthy task."

Useful. Resourceful. 7/10

Robin's curated posts hits it on the nail with the distinct differences and although I like the visual aspects of the post, I struggle with referring to Twitter as a curating tool.

It is certainly a critical tool for collecting, researching and having the conversations. I think there is a challenge on how to effectively curate with Twitter. I know many use Storify to do this which is often a re- representationof the tweets.

I am very interested in how Twitter will use Summnify aand Posterous in the field of curation.

As a result, I really likw the distinctions made and the logic the author takes us through. I would  perhaps be a little more cautious with referring  Twitter as a curation tool.

Useful 6/10

Facebook message claiming users have 'copyright' to photos, timeline posts is a hoax

Facebook message claiming users have 'copyright' to photos, timeline posts is a hoax | Sociale media voor de groene sector | Scoop.it

If you do not want to fall into the trap, read this article. For once I do not control the information, I published this information on my facebook wall...! [note Martin Gysler]

A new Facebook hoax has some users thinking they own the copyrights to material posted to their pages.

A news message claiming that Facebook users have copyrights to their photos, videos and messages is a load of baloney, according to a report.

They don't.

The post, which has recently popped up in some users timelines, says:

“In response to the new Facebook guidelines I hereby declare that my copyright is attached to all of my personal details, illustrations, comics, paintings, professional photos and videos, etc. (as a result of the Berner Convention). For commercial use of the above my written consent is needed at all times!”

Beyond Your Borders: Promoting Your Business Internationally Using Social Media

Beyond Your Borders: Promoting Your Business Internationally Using Social Media | Sociale media voor de groene sector | Scoop.it

The aptly named world wide web has opened up new methods of marketing for businesses both great and small. The benefits of localizing company websites to target foreign markets are now widely recognized (Common Sense Advisory studies suggest an average return of US$25 for every $1 spent on localization) and many businesses now use social media platforms for domestic marketing, but very few appear to be using those platforms to promote their services abroad.

For example, Econsultancy’s 2010 Social Media and Online PR Report reported that 83% of marketers were planning to increase their spending on social media this year, yet only 26% had plans to run campaigns in more than one country.

Opvallend is het gebruik voor de televisie. 88% gebruikt zijn tablet tijdens het TV kijken, wat het hoge percentage gebruikers ’s avonds voor een deel verklaart.
