Twitter writes Hamlet - #netart installation by Emmanuel Pire // #mediaart #artnumerique | Socialart | Scoop.it
“If you put 100 monkeys with typewriters in a room long enough, eventually you'll get Hamlet.”

A monkey on a typewriter would produce random letters. 6 random letters could be dhsllr or hamlet or klefim. Sometimes randomness produces sequences that seem not random. But the fact that snake has meaning but uvzmp has not is pretty much arbitrary. Some sequence of letters have meaning, some don’t.

Out of a random sequence of letters, it all boils down to probabilities. Out of a set of 26 letters, a sequence of 5 of them have about 1 / 12 billion (26^5) chance of being exactly the word snake. The probability of getting a certain word or sentence goes down as you add more letters.

So how about a full book ? The version of Hamlet I’m using has about 170k characters. Out of a reduced alphabet of 26 letters + 1 space (leaving out all the ponctuation), the amount of possible combinations for a set of 170000 characters is ridiculous (it’s a 240k+ digits figure).

Very unlikely, but theoretically possible. ....

Art Wiki : #WebArt, art sur internet - #netart | Socialart | Scoop.it

With custom tools and a blank canvas feel, NewHive is giving creativity
back to the internet.

Whether you’re a digital artist or not, internet culture shapes everything we do: we think in Tweets, see in Instagrams, and try to scroll on analog devices.

NewHiveCurator Lindsay Howard explores how the internet is shaping artistic practices and culture, spotlighting the work of artists who transform the effects of internet culture into multimedia experiences on the web. The online publishing platform provides the blank space for them to do so, along with custom tools and a code editor, which supports HTML, CSS, JS, Processing, and three.js. Designed with creators in mind, NewHive prioritizes the  “desktop experience” and always ensures “that creators own all the rights to their work.” Featuring the work of emerging and established creators, NewHive and Howard are commissioning projects ranging from zines to curated exhibitions online. ...

Social Collider - an artistic datavisualization of twitter - by Karsten Schmidt & Sascha Pohflepp

Social Collider - an artistic datavisualization of twitter - by Karsten Schmidt & Sascha Pohflepp | Socialart | Scoop.it
The Social Collider reveals cross-connections between conversations on Twitter. It acts as a metaphorical instrument which can be used to make visible how memes get created and how they propagate. Ideally, it might catch the Zeitgeist at work.
