WHAT DO YOU THINK?: What Will The World Look Like In 50 Years? | "#Social World, Internet, Gadgets, Computers, CellPhones, Future, Space" | Scoop.it

"In our world of both exponential growth and accelerating innovation, systems of repetition are “doomed to collapse.” We need to make radical changes to the frameworks in which we operate. The world is now an interconnected neural network, where problems are considered shared and where solutions are crowdsourced—we’re no longer living in silos."

Increased connectivity will continuously reveal new possibilities for humankind. Together, we will define what 'growth' and 'development' mean. What do you think the world will look like in 50 years? Dare to imagine…

Robert Stephenson FRSA's comment, April 25, 2013 4:41 PM
The future of mankind is by definition our young people .. The kids Blastbeat is engaged with right now will be pensioners in 50 years time. They are the people that will decide if mankind and the world as we know i will survive at all and if so how it will look. That is a BIG and humbling realisation.. So it is all the more reason to invest heavily to make best Education available to all of the coming three or four generations of young people. They the most important of ANY generation in the history of the human race.

For that reason I have decided to dedicate the rest of my useful life to the empowering and "educating" of young people. That education is not in the traditional model but is around giving opportunities in creative social enterprise encouraging and helping them in their life skills, building confidence, social enterprise and social responsibility. Building a movement of young creative social entrepreneurs all connecting and networking together to bring about the type of society and change that they would like to see.

Blastbeat is my contribution to that goal - I work everyday al day and night t try and make this a global and universal non sectarian movement for young social entrepreneurs.
Blastbeat amplifies young talent through music while engaging young people and their communities in a cross-generational, life changing, real life educational social entrepreneurial experience.
Through Blastbeat young people understand what it is like to run a small social enterprise, make some money and give something back to their own communities, while having a lot of fun in the process.

Many of the young people we work with would not ordinarily think about starting their own business. Blastbeat gives that positive experience so teenagers discover that they actually can achieve this, thus significantly heightening their aspirations and employability.

Our partners for 2013 include Barclays, UnLtd, The Big Lottery Fund, Google and You Tube. who are also now helping awaken the social entrepreneur in our young people through Blastbeat. We are creating the business leaders and employers of tomorrow and really bridging the big gap that exists between school and the workplace.

I believe that by helping young people become creative social entrepreneurs - forming generations of young people who are all prepared and are giving back - THAT is a world changing proposition that is sustainable, robust and scalable online and offline - anyone who would like to help map this happen quicker and better please contact me.

Peter (PJ) Fulcher-Meredith's curator insight, May 11, 2013 8:02 PM
I don't know what you think, but as useful as this is, it is not in my books an Infographic - it is a designed list - so maybe it could be called a 'listographic'. What I find compelling about true infographics is their ability on one page to capture the essence of a more complex concept or process and provide us with a big picture view thereby allowing us to understand in our own time using visual triggers. By my criteria this is not an infographic. If we start accepting these designed lists as infographics we are going to find ourselves with a real possibility of 'death by infographic'! Powerpoint as a tool is fine but in the hands of those who don't know how to communicate visually is a WMB (Weapn of Mass Boredom) C'mon communication designers do the hard yards and make these infographics work for thewir living!

SOINN artificial brain can now use the internet to learn new things #DigInfo

A group at Tokyo Institute of Technology, led by Dr. Osamu Hasegawa, has succeeded in making further advances with SOINN, their machine learning algorithm, which can now use the internet to learn how to perform new tasks. The system, which is under development as an artificial brain for autonomous mental development robots, is currently being used to learn about objects in photos using image searches on the internet. It can also take aspects of other known objects and combine them to make guesses about objects it doesn't yet recognize.

Reserve Your SpaceShipTwo Seat Now — Big Price Increase Coming Soon | Parabolic Arc

Reserve Your SpaceShipTwo Seat Now — Big Price Increase Coming Soon | Parabolic Arc | "#Social World, Internet, Gadgets, Computers, CellPhones, Future, Space" | Scoop.it

Although Virgin Galactic has promised to eventually lower prices on its suborbital space tourism flights aboard SpaceShipTwo, it looks like prices are actually going up 25 percent in the near term.

In an interview broadcast Monday night on KABC-TV 7 News Los Angeles, Branson said a seat on the suborbital space plane would now cost $250,000 — an increase of $50,000 from the price the company has been advertising for eight years.

Now, does that seem a bit counter-intuitive, wouldn’t it? Absolutely. But, this is actually a clever marketing move. How so? Now, you really didn’t think I’d tell you before the break, did you?

Read on.

Human extinction warning from Oxford

Human extinction warning from Oxford | "#Social World, Internet, Gadgets, Computers, CellPhones, Future, Space" | Scoop.it

What are the greatest global threats to humanity? Are we on the verge of our own unexpected extinction?

An international team of scientists, mathematicians and philosophers at Oxford University's Future of Humanity Institute is investigating the biggest dangers.

And they argue in a research paper, Existential Risk as a Global Priority, that international policymakers must pay serious attention to the reality of species-obliterating risks.

Last year there were more academic papers published on snowboarding than human extinction.

The Swedish-born director of the institute, Nick Bostrom, says the stakes couldn't be higher. If we get it wrong, this could be humanity's final century.

ABroaderView's insight:

Alana, Orphanage Program, Peru Cusco:
Be ready to learn from the girls!! I probably learned more from them than I expected. If you want to teach them something, be prepared to speak up. The directors and “mothers” mainly focus on the girls, not on what you’re doing. Also, bring toilet paper with you wherever you go just in case! And dress in layers. It’s April now and it’s hot one minute and raining the next. Oh and make sure you have some extra money for weekend trips other than Macchu Pichu. You should plan on staying here as long as possible. Two weeks was not long enough for me!

This has been an incredible experience. I cannot believe how fast two weeks went. I feel like I just got here. I love Cusco and my new Peruvian family. The people I’ve met here have inspired me to travel and experience more. I wish I could have stayed here longer, gotten closer to the girls, and learned more Spanish.
