How to Build the Perfect Tweet: an infographic guide

How to Build the Perfect Tweet: an infographic guide | Social Stream | Scoop.it

A tweet only has 140 characters; with such a small amount of characters at your disposal, you need to make the most of each one.

The perfect tweet consists of three main parts: your message, a link and blank space. Here's what each section should include:

Message:

Call to action: Tell readers what you want them to do.Hashtags: Include one or two to increase your reach among people who don't follow you.Tone: Use your own voice, but in a professional way.Format: Use a mix of headlines, questions and statistics to drive clicks and retweets.

Link:

Shortened URLs: Bit.ly links earn the most retweets.

Blank space:

Leave room for at least 20 characters at the end of your tweet so retweeters can add comments.

The Importance of Content Marketing When Building SEO Strategies [Infographic]

The Importance of Content Marketing When Building SEO Strategies [Infographic] | Social Stream | Scoop.it

Earlier this month, Mai wrote an article about why you should put content marketing at the heart of your brand strategy, in which she gives a summary of the importance of content marketing for your brand.

However, she also mentions that even though 90% of marketers think content marketing will become more important over the next year, more than 60% still haven’t invented a content marketing strategy at place.

Some interesting key facts from the infographic are:

The most popular types of content that marketers spend time on producing are blog posts, social media updates (Facebook posts, tweets, etc.) and articles/guides, whereas audio content and podcasts are the least popular;

Search engine providers are increasingly recognizing quality creation and social sharing as significant ranking factors;

27 million pieces of content are shared via the web each and every day in 2012;

More than 50 % of consumers say that blogs have influenced their purchase decisions;

94 % of marketers believe that the users analysis of the site’s perceived value will increase in importance as a ranking factor.

Why Content Marketing is the New SEO

Why Content Marketing is the New SEO | Social Stream | Scoop.it

SEO isn’t the same as what it used to be. You can’t just popup an ugly website, throw up mediocre content, and build a few links and expect to rank well. These days you actually have to build a good website, write high quality content that solves peoples’ problems, build thousands of links, and get thousands of social shares.

Building thousands of high quality links manually is really expensive and even if you have the money, it will take months if not years to build those links. And if you don’t have anything worth sharing on the social web, you won’t get social shares unless you buy them from spammy accounts.

WIRED Study Finds Today's Workers Are More Productive Outside the Office

WIRED Study Finds Today's Workers Are More Productive Outside the Office | Social Stream | Scoop.it
Workers are more productive, less stressed working remotely:

The lines between business and leisure are vanishing rapidly according to a recent survey of WIRED’s audience of influencers, conducted in collaboration with Marriott Hotels & Resorts.

The study, designed to explore the reality and evolving needs of this new breed of mobile worker, found that today’s workforce is expected to remain connected and readily available everywhere at any time.

Surprisingly, nearly half of the respondents said they’re more productive when working remotely but have unmet needs out of the office. High-speed Internet connections, charging stations, and comfortable furniture were at the top of the list of essential attributes necessary to create the ideal mobile workspace.

***** My favorite New SEO implication is the rise of storytelling. Once heuristic measures such as time on site and pages viewed become critically important storytelling, i.e. what makes those heuristic measures go positive, is the secret implication of the new SEO. I wrote more about storytelling as Panda and Penguin's secret implication for @Atlanticbt's blog:

Five mega-trends shaping customers

Five mega-trends shaping customers | Social Stream | Scoop.it
During the next two decades, five mega-trends will be changing the world of retail, writes Coca-Cola boss Muhtar Kent.

Mass urbanisation

More than half the world's population now live in cities. By 2050, this figure will balloon to 70%. This monumental shift will create significant supply chain and logistical challenges for consumer goods and retail industries.

Our businesses will not only need to collaborate better with each other but also work more closely with cities as they modernise their infrastructures.

We're getting older

The global birth rate has been declining for 20 years, and we're living longer. By 2047, people over 60 will outnumber those under 15. This will mean new opportunities for some industries, as more mature consumers tend to have greater disposable income.

Along the way, we can expect more focused marketing and greater reliance on home delivery.

The middle class cometh

The world is experiencing the greatest economic shift in history as the global middle class grows by another billion people in the next 10 years.

With China and India leading the charge, more than 90% of the world's middle class will live in emerging markets by 2030, up from 50% today. While this new wealth represents a huge growth opportunity for manufacturers and retailers, it is also likely to create new resource stresses and cost pressures on some commodities.

Consumers in the driving seat

Many of the old rules and assumptions of our industries no longer apply. Consumer expectations are increasing while their tastes and preferences change at a dizzying pace. Much of this is driven by new consumer technologies. By 2013, for example, more than two billion mobile users globally will have made a purchase via their handsets. By 2020, a third of consumer purchases are expected to be made online.

Ultimately, new ways of connecting offer fresh and exciting opportunities to engage with digital consumers and improve their shopping experiences. Even so, retailers and FMCG firms will need more advanced real-time insights to better serve this dynamic, fragmented market.

One key will be to pick the right ways to interact with online consumers, manage these conversations appropriately, and make the best use of digital consumer data. Moreover, successful companies will need to enhance transparency and become more collaborative in their interactions with shoppers.

What about the planet?

Consumers today are understandably concerned about sustainability, as demands for natural resources continue to challenge supplies. By 2030, the world's population will reach 8.3 billion, boosting demand for food and energy by 50% and for fresh water by 30%. In this light, sustainability is simply smart business.

How SEO Has Changed in 2012 [infographic] | Social Stream | Scoop.it

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s “natural” or un-paid (“organic”) search results.

In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users.
