How to Find or Create Your Brand Personality

How to Find or Create Your Brand Personality | HR, Social Recruiting, Leadership | Scoop.it

Identifying and defining the identity and personality of your brand is crucial. Even if you don’t define it, some sort of personality (even of the multiple variety) will come through.

So it’s best to think about it now. Who do you want your brand to be?

What is the personality of your brand? No, it’s not a trick question. Is your brand formal or spunky or socially conscious?

Matthew Alipour's curator insight, October 2, 2014 1:56 AM

Its really important to know who you are and where your leading your business!

Jessica Segreti's curator insight, October 13, 2014 10:45 PM

I found this article to be extremely interesting and highly informative.  The article entitled, “How to Find or Create Your Brand Personality” concisely identifies and outlines the thought process one must have/follow when determining the personality of their brand.  As the article states, “Identifying and defining the personality of your brand is crucial.”  And I could not agree more!  The article begins by informing us of what brand personality, in fact, is.  Brand personality is a set of emotional and associative characteristics connected to a company or a brand name.  These things influence how an audience perceives a company, thus shaping how they feel and interact with it.  Understandably, often times a brand’s personality will mirror that of its target consumer base.  The article goes on to note that brand personality is necessary to companies large and small as well as anyone with a web presence.  This importance was included in a class discussion when we considered the social presence of brands; increasing opportunities for interactions with customers and engaging people to talk about the brand, to strengthen brand personality.

When you ask yourself what type of personality is the right fit, for example, you start by thinking about your brand’s story.  In other words, how would you describe your product, website, or business to someone new?  In reference to a good example, some of the most successful brand personalities in existence can be seen in this article and include companies such as Nike, Old Spice, Pepsi, Apple, and Axe.  The article goes on to ask how you create brand personality.  The answer is first you must understand and know the characteristics and tone of your brand.  It is also important to make sure those who communicate on behalf of the brand are on board with tone and style.  I personally find it fascinating to study the influence the effects color, font, and lighting have on the market.  The article was particularly interesting when acknowledging this.  Additionally, if your brand is silly and fun, this should apply to the website, twitter feed, etc.  Overall I found this column to be written very well and contain useful and entertaining content that I can apply professionally as well as in everyday life.

Strategic leadership is required in all organisations, including HR.

In my experience there is a large variation in how different organisations value strategic thinking.  Not everyone in the company needs to have a 'McKinsey brain', but some do especially in leadership roles.

This article has some really useful tips on developing strategic leaders, no more important than the first "Encourage managers to set a regular time aside for strategic planning"
