Why Curated Online Magazines Are the SEO Future

Why Curated Online Magazines Are the SEO Future | Social on the GO!!! | Scoop.it

Interesting article which echoes what we've seen in our own analytics at Scoop.it, with more and more trafic coming from Search as Google indexes Scoop.it pages.

As Cath Pope's write in this post: "Google loves contextual links – SEO starts with good content".

Picking up social signal from algorithmic noise seems to have been the focus of Google's Panda update.

All for the better in my opinion.

New Delicious Launched Tonight: New Feature "Stacks" Collects Content with Curation

New Delicious Launched Tonight: New Feature "Stacks" Collects Content with Curation | Social on the GO!!! | Scoop.it

Introducing Stacks – “Playlists for the Web”

Every day, people create boatloads of content on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and across the entire web. It’s getting increasingly difficult to cut through all the noise. If you know exactly what you’re looking for, search works great, but what if you want to discover something new? Conversely, how can you easily organize the best websites around a topic you know a lot about?

We came up with a simple solution called stacks, which are collections of links that you can share. They’re playlists for the web!

Here’s how they work. Select some related links, plug them into a stack and watch the magic happen. You can customize your stack by choosing images to feature, and by adding a title, description and comment for each link. Then publish the stack to share it with the world. If you come across another stack you like, follow it to easily find it again and catch any updates...

How to attract readers to your blog and make them stay | The Next Web

How to attract readers to your blog and make them stay | The Next Web | Social on the GO!!! | Scoop.it

Ah yes. A familiar beginner’s problem for any new blogger: No readers. Assuming you’re comparing your brand new blog to an already-well-established website with a huge following, it’s understandable why the task of luring in an audience might seem overwhelming. Not everyone can snap their fingers and magically summon a rabid fan base of hungry readers just waiting to devour your every word.

That said, there are a few things you can do to attract readers and drive traffic to your blog, most of which only take a bit of leg-work for the first few weeks, but really help pave the road for all of your future posts.

For those of you struggling with the very common blog-population-zero issue, let me first point you in the direction of my previous post, how to define your target audience. If you’ve already read that and are ready for the next step, read on....

Thoora Turns Up Most Relevant Content Around Topics That Matter To Users & More

Thoora Turns Up Most Relevant Content Around Topics That Matter To Users & More | Social on the GO!!! | Scoop.it

This is a great tool for curators!

Intro:

"With a Web full of stuff, discovery is a hard problem. Search engines were the first tools on the scene, but their rankings still have a hard time identifying relevance the same way a human user would."

Excerpt:

Digging For Content

Thoora was founded in 2008, and it originally launched as a real-time news aggregator, which we covered back in 2009. But this new iteration is about much more than scanning the news.

This is a toolkit for users to explore and research topics, and it learns more about them as its users sort out what matters to them. It is a social tool - users can share topics, and the Thoora site features highlights - but the purpose of the tool is to turn up the most relevant content on the topic, no matter how deeply it's buried in the Web.

"We like to say that we're at the intersection of aggregation, curation and search," says Carrie Shaw, head of product at Thoora. As far as users are concerned, that's a good description, but the real value of Thoora comes from the learning algorithms at work behind the scenes. As users create topics, discover content and clean up the results, the Thoora engine gets better at recommendations.

Content Curation: computers and humans creating collaborative intelligence - good summary

Content Curation: computers and humans creating collaborative intelligence - good summary | Social on the GO!!! | Scoop.it

We don’t have a problem of “information overload”… we have a problem of “filter failure”. And even as you’re reading this massive money is being spent to create better filters. And the best filters are those which allow humans and computers to both do what they do best… in a new thing called “collaborative intelligence”.

Content Curation. We're starting to hear about it all over the place! But what is it?!

I think it's pretty simple. It's about organizing information. It's all the extra intelligence that's wrapped around raw information that makes it accessible, findable (is that a word), and meaningful to the right people at the right time.

It could be said that most journalists are really content curators. They don't usually write, so much as they organize and represent raw information from elsewhere, in a form that's better packages, timely and more meaningful to their specific readership.

Many bloggers do that. I'm one of those bloggers. I cover blogging and social media on this blog, but most of the time I'm doing a fine enough job if all I do is act as a filter for my readers, in helping them to get to the good stuff out there. And I do that by "editorializing" around the raw content I find out there... cutting bits out of it here and there, rewording it, explaining the context, making an argument around it, etc. That's curation!....

Is the 'Social TV' Effect on 'Two and a Half Men' Sustainable? | Advertising Age ht @LKramer

Is the 'Social TV' Effect on 'Two and a Half Men' Sustainable? | Advertising Age ht @LKramer | Social on the GO!!! | Scoop.it

But given that Ashton Kutcher is deeply associated with social media -- he was famously the first Twitter user to rack up 1 million followers -- it seemed likely that his addition to the show dramatically amplified its "social TV" footprint: the extent to which people talk about it on social media. As it happens, the team at Ad Age's editorial partner Bluefin Labs, a Cambridge-Mass.-based social-media analysis company that specializes in social TV, told me that they'd collected social-media responses to last year's "Two and a Half Men" season premiere (when Charlie Sheen was still on the show) and this year's, as well as all the airings in between. You know what that means: charticle time!

Facebook users get a Flipboard-like magazine with NewsMix

Facebook users get a Flipboard-like magazine with NewsMix | Social on the GO!!! | Scoop.it

NewsMix launched its Facebook app today, which will allow people to follow posts from their fan pages in one, consolidated digital magazine.

You know the saying “fall through the cracks?” Well, Facebook’s news feed is a content chasm. Interesting posts from your liked pages can fall to the bottom and are often ignored, even though the content might be good. NewsMix takes your liked pages, whether they are news-oriented or not, and forms them into your own curated magazine within Facebook.

“I really think Facebook should fix the problem of … the news feed,” Francois Bochatay, chief executive of NewsMix’s parent company Sobees, told VentureBeat. “What we tried to fix is getting the news in one place. There should be another place for the friends.”...
