Fortune 500 social media statistics: infographic

Fortune 500 social media statistics: infographic | Social Networks & Social Media by numbers | Scoop.it

Go-Gulf.com has put together the infographic below to highlight the key social media statistics for the big corporate players.

It found that 58% have an active corporate Facebook account compared to 62% with an active Twitter account.

Unsurprisingly Coca-Cola has the most number of Facebook ‘likes’ with more than 40m, while Starbucks comes in second with just under 29m. Interestingly, the number of blogs per industry have almost all decreased - perhaps suggesting a focusing of efforts - with only minor growth in terms of new Fortune 500 companies embracing Facebook and Twitter.

Why "Second Chance" Tweets Matter: After 3 Hours, Few Care About Socially Shared Links

Why "Second Chance" Tweets Matter: After 3 Hours, Few Care About Socially Shared Links | Social Networks & Social Media by numbers | Scoop.it

There have been various studies suggesting that if someone doesn’t see a tweet or a Facebook post within a few hours, they’ll never see it at all. Now link shortening service Bit.ly is out with another. After three hours, Bit.ly has found, links have sent about all the traffic they’re going to send. So start thinking about doing “second chance” tweets.

 [...]

Bottom line: Tweet and tweet again. In moderation. And turn that half-life into an extended life.

Microsoft edged out Yahoo in January again to become the second-largest Web property behind Google, according to the latest data from comScore.

Unique visitors to Microsoft sites, including MSN, surpassed 179 million last month -- about 2 million ahead of Yahoo’s total traffic.

Google was No. 1, with more than 187 million visitors. Rounding out the top five were Facebook (163.5 million) and Amazon (110 million).

The comScore report also underscored the growing popularity of virtual bulletin board Pinterest, which was the third-fastest-growing site in January behind IRS.gov and ED.gov (U.S. Department of Education).

For a few years now, brands have been touting frothy Facebook "like" numbers as evidence of their social-media acumen. But how many of those fans are actually bothering to take part in conversation with brands?

Not too many, as it turns out.

Slightly more than 1% of fans of the biggest brands on Facebook are actually engaging with the brands, according to a study from the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute, an Australia-based marketing think tank that counts Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola and other major advertisers as its supporters.

It’s a Small World After All: The Top Global Web Trends - Brian Solis

It’s a Small World After All: The Top Global Web Trends - Brian Solis | Social Networks & Social Media by numbers | Scoop.it

Social media is a global phenomenon indeed. Certainly Facebook, Twitter, Google+, in their own way, each make the world a much smaller place. The distance between any two people is shrinking as the number of network connections continues to proliferate. I’m sure you’ve heard at one point or another, that the distance between two people in an offline world is six degrees. In a recent Facebook study for example, the average degree of separation between two people in the network is only 4.74. When focused on one country specifically, such as the U.S., Sweden, or Italy, among others, the number of hops between two people further shrinks to 3.74.

Facebook 2012

Facebook 2012 | Social Networks & Social Media by numbers | Scoop.it

Facebook's rise never ceases to amaze us - from a net income of $229 million in 2009 to a cool $1 billion last year, as illustrated in our latest infographic. Among other things, we look at the number of active Facebook users around the globe (Asia has the most users, but the U.S. has the largest penetration per population), what they actually do on Facebook (like uploading 250 million photos a day), the games they like to play, and some interesting facts from Facebook's recent IPO filing.

Finally, Facebook releases long-held company secrets.

Financials:

- 2011 Revenue was $3.711 billion vs. $1.974 billion in 2011.

- 2011 net income (taxed): $1 billion vs $606 million in 2010.

- Annual revenue grew 154% from 2009 to 2010 and 88% from 2010 to 2011.

- Cash on hand: $3.9 billion

- Raising: $5 billion

- Ad revenue in 2011: $3.2 billion over $1.9 billion for 2010. There was a 42% increase in ads delivered in 2011. There was an 18% increase in price of ads 2011.

- Revenue mix: 2011 85% was advertising. 2010 95% was advertising. 2009 100% advertising.

- Payments revenue in 2011: $557 million up from $106 million in 2010.

- Zynga is 12% of Facebook's business.

Facebook lists innovation from Google, Microsoft, and Twitter as risk factors.

Why increasing ad rates: "improvements in ability to deliver more relevant ads. Product changes to deliver higher interaction."

Quick Take: 88% overall growth y/y is not as impressive as we'd like. 500% growth in payments is very impressive, however. So is increasing the price of ads 18% while increasing ads sold 42%.

USER NUMBERS:

845 million users (monthly) 483 million daily – daily is up 43%.

More than 425 million mobile users in December.

Facebook mobile app is most downloaded app on all smartphones.

Quick Take: Those are STUNNING daily numbers.

SEXY STUFF:

Mark Zuckerberg owns 28.4% of Facebook. He's worth $25bn+.

Zuckerberg spent $800,000 on airplanes last year.

Dustin Moskovitz, cofounder, owns 7%.

Between her stock, options, unexcercised options, and restricted stock units, Sheryl Sandberg SEEMS to be worth about $2 billion. The math is a little unclear since we don't know if RSUs convert to stock on a 1 to 1 ratio.

Peter Thiel's stake is worth $2.2 billion

Jim Breyer (Accel Partners) has a stake worth around $10 billion.
