20 Common Social Media Marketing Myths BUSTED

20 Common Social Media Marketing Myths BUSTED | Social Mercor | Scoop.it
Read through some commonly held myths about social media marketing to rid yourself of any urban legends.

I donned my walrus mustache and beret (any Mythbusters fans out there?) and drudged up some of the most common social media myths out there ... so I could officially bust them in this blog post. Let's dive in to some social media myths we've all probably heard around the water cooler, and explain why they are now all officially BUSTED!

My customers aren't on social media. Social media is awesome! Join every network right now! Google+ is dumb. Pinterest is only for B2C organizations. I should only try to get fans and followers that will become customers. Social media is a M-F gig. If my friends and family Like every update, my social presence will rock. I have to respond to social activity immediately. Social media is all about engaging conversation Social media marketing activity doesn't drive bottom line results. Do NOT get personal. Hashtags are wicked important. Social media monitoring takes forever. Your social media manager should be really young, they're the only ones who "get it." Social media is only for young people. Social media is just a "get found" channel. I don't have enough content to feed the beast. Social media gives people a venue to publicly bash my company. Social media is too fluffy to have solid metrics around. Social media is free marketing.

Biodiversity Conservation can Improve Human Health in Worlds Growing Cities, says UN assessment

The Cities and Biodiversity Outlook is the world's first global analysis of how projected patterns of urban land expansion will impact biodiversity and crucial ecosystems

Hyderabad (India), 16 October 2012 - Global urbanization will have significant implications for biodiversity and ecosystems if current trends continue, with knock-on effects for human health and development, according to a new assessment by the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The assessment, which draws on contributions from more than 123 scientists worldwide, states that over 60 percent of the land projected to become urban by 2030 has yet to be built.

This presents a major opportunity to greatly improve global sustainability by promoting low-carbon, resource-efficient urban development that can reduce adverse effects on biodiversity and improve quality of life, it says...  http://www.unep.org/newscentre/default.aspx?DocumentID=2697&ArticleID=9302&l=en

Scientists have long believed that Earth itself emerged from a series of giant impacts. These impacts would have made the early Earth spin near its stability limit of about two hours per revolution. The last giant impact, they believe, formed a moon that is a twin of the Earth.

When the giant impact occurred between Theia and the fast-spinning Earth, the high speed of the Earth’s spin caused the ejection of material from Earth into orbit. They believe that the ejected material formed a moon with chemical composition similar to Earth. After the impact, the rapidly rotating Earth was slowed down by the gravitational interaction between the sun and the moon.

The previous giant-impact models held that a small planet, Theia, hit the Earth, sending a cloud of debris from Theia into orbit that formed the moon. But the chemistry of the moon matches that of the Earth. Now, Sarah T. Stewart, a professor in Harvard’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, and her SETI colleague Matija Ćuk propose a new model in which pieces of the Earth broke off and formed the moon.

The researchers present a dynamic model of their theory, based on the results of chemical analyses of isotopes from the Earth and moon, in a paper published online today in the journal Science. The results are also being presented this week at the 44th meeting of the American Astronomical Society (AAS) Division for Planetary Sciences in Reno, Nev.

Additionally, Stewart and Ćuk propose that prior to the collision and creation of the moon, the Earth was spinning much faster than it does now, and had a day that was only two to three hours long.
Many scientists believe that Earth itself emerged from a series of giant impacts. These impacts would have made the early Earth spin near its stability limit of about two hours per revolution. The last giant impact, they believe, formed a moon that is a twin of the Earth.

Why Spotify Is A Social Network And What That Means For Internet Marketers

Why Spotify Is A Social Network And What That Means For Internet Marketers | Social Mercor | Scoop.it

Marty Note
Last week I scooped a post about Spotify being a social network. Such an easy and important truth wasn't hard to miss. Several friends told me they thought of Spotify as where they listened to their music with little thought to its Internet marketing potential. That would be a mistake as Amanda Gagnon points out. Her post is linked off of my riff on top of her idea.

The other realization reading Amanda's article and writing this piece helped bring up is EVERYTHING IS A SOCIAL NET NOW. If you are even trying to have one sided conversations somewhere still good luck with that. Everything, every tool and piece of content, forms or doesn't form a social net. Social is the name of the game. Social is everything.

What about money? Sure money transfer happens, but only if you are doing other things well. Do you give money to websites you don't know or trust? Neither do I or anyone else. It is too easy to form an informed opinion. It is too easy to give everything and everyone the "like me" test.

Dangers of the echo-chamber we may be creating we can discuss at another time. Today is dedicated to the glory of the social nets that are all around you at all times influencing everything.

Do we really need that many? not really but the overview helps at least to be selective to your needs!

Social network analysis views social relationships in terms of network theory consisting of nodes and ties. Nodes are the individual actors within the networks, and ties are the relationships between the actors. The resulting graph-based structures are often very complex.

There can be many kinds of ties between the nodes. Research in a number of academic fields has shown that social networks operate on many levels, from families up to the level of nations, and play a critical role in determining the way problems are solved, organizations are run, and the degree to which individuals succeed in achieving their goals.
