CLEAN CARGO WORKING GROUP
PARIS – FRANCE
85 Boulevard Haussmann, 3rd Floor
→ Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG) is a global, business-to-business initiative dedicated to improving the environmental performance of marine container transport.
→ Clean Cargo creates practical tools for measuring, evaluating, and reporting the environmental impacts of global goods transportation, helping ocean freight carriers track and benchmark their performance and easily report to customers in a standard format, and cargo owners (shippers) review and compare carriers’ environmental performance when reporting and making informed buying decisions.
→ Clean Cargo has successfully developed the industry standard for calculating ocean container carbon-dioxide emissions and has aligned SOx and NOx methodologies with industry bodies such as CSI.
→ Clean Cargo collects emissions data each year from its 16 carrier groups – which represent over 2,000 individual ships or more than 60 percent of ocean container capacity worldwide – and distributes this information in easy-to-use scorecard format to shippers, who in turn use the data to drive internal emissions baselines and reductions targets.
→ Clean Cargo plans to continue improvement on our carbon calculation methodology, but the priority is to scale up shipper use of emissions data and support efforts to standardize emissions calculations across the entire logistics supply chain.
