Official Google Blog: Search, plus Your World

Official Google Blog: Search, plus Your World | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

I know a lot of people who have been reluctant to get involved with Google Plus. I’ve heard all sorts of reasons from “I don’t have time to do that as well as Facebook and Twitter,” to “Hrmph. I don’t even like it.” But if you were not convinced already about how important Google Plus data is likely to be for SEO in coming months, then this announcement by Google might change your mind.

Google Search has always been about finding the best results for you. Sometimes that means results from the public web, but sometimes it means your personal content or things shared with you by people you care about. These wonderful people and this rich personal content is currently missing from your search experience. Search is still limited to a universe of webpages created publicly, mostly by people you’ve never met. Your “How-To” Post Will Fail If You Don’t Use These Techniques

Your “How-To” Post Will Fail If You Don’t Use These Techniques | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Gone are the days when you could write a simple “how-to” blog post and rank in the top search results. Why is that? Two very good reasons.

First, all of the general and highly-competitive posts like “how-to blog” or “how-to find a roommate” are already written.

The other reason is Google Panda. Remember Google’s update this past year that took down a lot of the content farms? That algorithm was designed to penalize short and shallow articles and reward high-quality content.

Now, I’ve got good news and bad news for you.

How to Improve Your Rankings with Semantic Keyword Research

How to Improve Your Rankings with Semantic Keyword Research | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

An all in one. It's really an extraordinary item for doing the right things to improve your ranking. If you have a blog with great articles, but not many visitors, apply the ideas in this article, it'll help you for sure. [note mg]

Think about semantic keyword research to help you focus your content and and improve your rankings.

From Google’s Panda, Search Plus Your World and Venice updates, in the last year alone the SEO landscape has changed. And while that means your SEO strategy will change, too, there is one thing that remains the same…keywords.

Keywords remain important to your content and link strategies.

But there is one change coming down the Google pipeline that will change keywords…semantic search technology and the human element.

What is semantic search?

Basically, semantic search is technology that tries to determine what users mean when they type in a certain keyword.

They explore the semantics of those words…or the meaning behind them.

For example, if someone typed in “laptop” do they mean:

  • That they want to buy a laptop?
  • Have one repaired?
  • Upgraded?
  • Are they even talking about a computer, but something entirely different?

In the real world most people don’t search with one keyword…additional keywords give additional clues.
