14 Best Practices for Brands to Grow their Audiences in Social Media

14 Best Practices for Brands to Grow their Audiences in Social Media | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

As a consumer, you are blasted with the same request over and over, “Follow Us on Twitter, Like Us on Facebook” As a consumer however it is more than natural to ask why should I or what’s in it for me? These are questions of which a significant number of businesses cannot genuinely answer.

Businesses are realizing the importance of establishing a presence on Twitter and other vibrant social networks. In many ways, hosting a branded account is now common practice, a required extension to the push channels created through email, traditional marketing and web sites. What businesses are still learning however is that creating a channel, hosting a channel worth following, and building a loyal audience is a far greater challenge and overall investment than initially anticipated. At the same time, the realization that a shift from a push mentality to that of two-way interaction is nothing less than disruptive to the operation of business as usual...

Become a Content Curator to Build Your Social Media Presence

Become a Content Curator to Build Your Social Media Presence | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

One of the best social media lessons I ever learned came from my good friend Laura Petrolino.

Laura taught me that by becoming a content curator (i.e. regularly gathering and sharing links to useful articles and posts) for my social media followers and fans, I would be able to steadily grow my social media presence.

In turn, Laura taught, my increased social media presence would lead to more visits to my site where folks could read my content as well as learn about my product and service offerings.

This has turned out to be a successful strategy for me. Using the content curation approach, my presence continues to grow on multiple social media sites...

Recruiters Like Facebook

Recruiters Like Facebook | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

More companies are trying to tap Facebook Inc.'s 750-million-plus user base to find new employees, threatening traditional job boards and competing with LinkedIn Corp., which has dominated the online professional networking arena.

Facebook's use as a job-recruitment tool remains small, but its appeal may be growing. Some recruiters say they have all but eliminated their spending on job boards, which can charge a few hundred dollars per job posting, depending on volume. Others note that while LinkedIn contains a more comprehensive résumé database, candidates tend to value referrals from their connections on Facebook more...

3 Tips to Drive More Traffic to Your Blog

When you first look at Twitter it may look confusing. It is quite simple and still looks confusing. It is the simple 140 characters that may confuse people. How can 140 characters get across the complete information?

You must learn the skill of being very direct and to the point. You know the speed of Twitter is fast and furious and you can’t start one tweet and continue on two or three others to get the point across. Your message will be lost in the jungle. You must use a get to the point headline with a link that has the full picture.

7 Ways To Build Your Personal Brand On Facebook

7 Ways To Build Your Personal Brand On Facebook | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

We all want to express our individual selves, be it in person or online. Here are 7 guidelines to establishing your very own personal brand on Facebook.

1. Be True To Yourself

Posts and photos that illustrate your well-rounded life offer others an instant glimpse into your own personal brand.

However, you don’t have to use the social platform as a tell-all. Just as it is in real life, a little information well said goes a very long way. Don’t shout out everything you’re doing. After all, most social media users are discussing life, not walking into a crowded room and shouting out their life story.

Also, your virtual and real lives should be in sync. If you’re a jokester in real life, follow true on Facebook; established friends need to recognize you, too...

Why You Shouldn’t Abandon Facebook and Twitter for Google+ | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
There’s little doubt that Facebook, Twitter and Google+ form the ‘Big Three’ of the social media world. While Facebook and Twitter have been around for a while, Google+ is a recent phenomenon that’s growing at a scorching pace. Create a Robust Landing Page Testing Strategy

Create a Robust Landing Page Testing Strategy | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Landing pages are frequently pushed to the back burner when creating digital marketing campaigns even though they can often have the single greatest impact on the campaign’s success. This is particularly surprising considering landing pages have been a frequent topic that’s been written about and discussed for years.

Your Landing Page Test is Ugly!
Whether due to a lack of understanding about how to measure landing page performance, a lack of knowledge about how to create and test landing pages, or a general lack of awareness of the benefits of good landing pages, the fact remains that many marketers are running campaigns that are performing significantly below their potential.

Are Facebook and LinkedIn Violating Your Privacy?

Are Facebook and LinkedIn Violating Your Privacy? | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Have you noticed the buzz about privacy this past week? I speak and blog about social media and privacy issues so I keep my ear to the ground. What surprises me lately is how often I see wall posts on Facebook about privacy violations. LinkedIn ended up in hot water with their members for the same sort of thing. Here’s what made people nervous this week and why.

Facebook loosens security settings
If you’re a Facebook user, chances are you saw this post pop up on the wall of someone you follow. Four people in my relatively tiny network posted this message:

FB has quietly changed something! Take a look at your URL address (the top box on your screen.) If you see “http” instead of “https” you DO NOT have a secure session & can be HACKED. Go to Account – Account Settings – Account Security – click edit. Check box (secure browsing), click Save. FB has automatically set it on the non-secure setting! Do your friends a huge favor, copy & re-post.. Mine was on the non-secure setting and had to change it...

4 Reasons Google+ Brand Pages Will Be Better Than Facebook's [OPINION]

4 Reasons Google+ Brand Pages Will Be Better Than Facebook's [OPINION] | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
Brands can't wait to get on Google+. Here are four reasons why they're right to be excited.

Converting Facebook’s 750 million active users to Google+ will be a long, difficult battle for the search giant. But converting brands to Google+ will be much easier if Google+ is able to solve advertisers’ biggest problems with Facebook — such as post-click engagement tracking, paid search inefficiencies and limited customization.

Advertisers drive paid media to their Facebook Pages because they want to be where their audience is, but there’s a major flaw in this strategy. Advertisers can’t track post-click engagement of non-Facebook ads driving to Facebook, and that’s a huge disadvantage in qualifying traffic and uncovering valuable user insights. Without such information, we can only guess whether media dollars are being well spent.

9 Facebook Friends You Could Do Without

9 Facebook Friends You Could Do Without | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Sometimes, by choice or by circumstance, we find ourselves connected online to people we try hard not to socialize with in real life. It could be a cousin, neighbor, or co-worker...someone you shouldn’t have added in the first place, but felt obligated after the sixth friend request or several reminders in person.

It’s possible that you didn’t even realize what a terrible idea it would be to add them to your Facebook network; they could be one of those people who seem normal, but develop a personality disorder when their fingers hit the keyboard.

Whatever the situation, you’re stuck with them now — unless you’re willing to risk their wrath or worse, tears, when they realize they’ve been unfriended and blocked. Sometimes it just doesn’t seem worth it, especially with those we see often in person, so we do our best to tolerate:..
