Add your Facebook stream to Google+ with this browser extension | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
You have your Google+ invite and have been enjoying the new features that Google has been making available to you. Adding another social network to your existing Facebook and Twitter accounts, it can be difficult to prioritize your updates amongst your networks.

Some users have manually entered their updates manually across networks, others have employed their own ways to share. However, a new Chrome extension “Google+Facebook” takes the hassle out of updating both your Google+ and Facebook walls by adding your Facebook stream into your Google+ dashboard.

3 Tips for Increasing Your Klout Score « Measuring Online Influence: The Official Klout Blog | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
The biggest feedback we get from Klout users — Kloutizens, as I like to call them — is that they want more actionable items on how to understand and increase their influence. As a company, we believe part of our mission is to do just that, we want to help empower people and grow their influence. You’ll start to see us do more of this, both here and on klout.com.

Of course, there isn’t a magic bullet for increasing your Klout Score (like, if you post at 7:59PM every day, you’ll see an increase), but I can offer some general tips that should help.

10 features Google+ is crying out for | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
It may only be a week old, but Google+ has certainly stirred up the excitement of the digerati. Even at this early stage, it’s clear that Google has something with real potential here. However, there are lots of features it’s still lacking and plenty of directions the service could be taken in.

Here, we take a look at some of the most important ones and some more imaginative examples too. Thanks to everyone who participated in this Plus thread which helped inspire the list. So, in no particular order…

HOW TO: Launch Facebook Skype Video Chat [PICS]

HOW TO: Launch Facebook Skype Video Chat [PICS] | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
You can now make video calls on Facebook, thanks to a new Skype-powered feature the social network launched Wednesday.

During the product announcement, Mark Zuckerberg described how his elderly neighbor in Palo Alto asked if he could to video chat his grandson on Facebook — without the hassle of setting up a new account or downloading a program. “Tune in,” Zuckerberg told him.

It’s not quite as seamless as Zuckerberg’s neighbor was hoping, however. The first time you try to video chat someone or answer a call, you will indeed be asked to download a program. The chat window will then ask you to select some Flash settings.

25 Ways to Use Twitter to Improve the World

25 Ways to Use Twitter to Improve the World | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
A few days ago we talked about how you could use a blog site to help make the world a better place. Today we’re going to chat about how to use Twitter in the same way. A lot of people still think of Twitter as “that site where people talk about what they ate for dinner.” It’s true that not everyone uses Twitter in what we might call “meaningful” ways, but there is a huge opportunity for value. Here are 25 of my ideas on this topic.

1. Follow organizations that tweet out important information. On my own Twitter account I follow groups like the National Wildlife Fund – I don’t really engage with them, and often these accounts won’t interact with you a whole lot, but the information they’re sending out is extremely important. Following them makes it easy for you to help them get that information out there...

What Google+ Means For Your Business

What Google+ Means For Your Business | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
With all due respect to Google, its social media efforts till date have been nothing to write about. Google Wave was a disaster and Google Buzz made a limited impact. In contrast, Facebook has gone from strength to strength and emerged as the world’s leading social network that’s fast approaching the 600 million member mark. It’s been a bitter pill for the world’s leading online search giant to swallow and I expected Google to hit back strongly.

Earlier this last week, Google unveiled its latest social media offering – Google+ to the world and since then social media and technology experts have been busy churning out one opinion after the other. Comparisons to Facebook are inevitable and many experts have been quick to claim that Google+ will dethrone Facebook as the numero uno social media phenomenon...

The Only 5 Content Marketing Metrics that Matter

The Only 5 Content Marketing Metrics that Matter | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
We prioritize our daily lives based on what we’ll be measured on by our boss, our client, or ourselves. But what if what we’re being measured on is unclear, misguided, or just plain worthless?

Instead, focus on answering these questions:

How many people did we reach?

Figure out how many unique pairs of eyeballs saw your stuff. Extra points if they’re in your target audience. Be aware that viral content can sometimes falsely inflate your sense of success if you only pay attention to how many people saw it, which is why you want to ask...

The Magic Formula For Blog Retweets

You’ve worked hard on a post that you think many people will like. You tweet it to all your followers and wait to see all the RTs come in on your stream. They aren’t there. It’s like a ghost town. What happened?

I’ve experienced that so many times. But now, after posting several posts that have received hundreds of RTs, I’ve discovered my own magic formula for getting RTs.

I’d like to share it with you in hopes that it might help you get the RTs you want also.

I break down this process into three separate steps:

1. Entice people to click on your link
2. Make sure they are moved by your post
3. Get them to take the extra step and RT it

It's the best post I have read about how Building Community Around Empire Avenue!

Empire Avenue is a stock market where you can purchase shares in your favorite individual or corporate social media presences. I’m on the service with the ticker symbol IFROGGY.

My friend Damond Nollan has been riding the Empire Avenue wave. He’s a popular user and has dug in pretty deep. I asked him to write a guest post for me and he talked about how you can build community around Empire Avenue and further engage with the people you encounter on EA.

Empire Avenue (EA) is a relatively new social network built upon gamification. On the surface, the site is about buying and selling shares in people using eaves, EA’s virtual currency. However, if you look a little deeper, you may notice a lively community that actively engages both on and off site. In this article, we will explore the Empire Avenue community and learn from existing builders.

6 action items for Facebook to compete with Google+

6 action items for Facebook to compete with Google+ | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
Everybody has been writing about Google + for the last week and it certainly has lots of buzz. It might not be a tide yet but it is certainly a strong ripple on the edge of Facebook’s shores. So where does this leave Facebook and what is the company feeling at the moment?

This is certainly the biggest threat it has ever faced from a competitor who has put years of work into a project and has very deep pockets and considerable marketing reach. Facebook on the other hand has 7 years advantage, 750 million users and has shown in the past how adaptive it can be when faced with a considerable challenge. It really is too early to say how much traction Google + is going to get among the general public but the next 3 months are going to be crucial and if Facebook is to keep plotting its course towards a huge IPO in the spring of 2012 then it’ll need to move quickly in the following areas…

Social Capital – The New Measure of Success

Social Capital – The New Measure of Success | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
Social Capital – The New Measure of Success by guest blogger Simon Mainwaring

Social media is disrupting how businesses need to measure success in the marketplace. Of course, profits still matter, but as consumers connect up in communities and networks through social technologies, they are gaining leverage to pressure companies to think about more than just great products and services.
What they want from business is a better world, not just better widgets. How does this impact small companies, entrepreneurs, and contractors? The answer is, it affects you the same way it impacts global corporations that seek to powerfully develop and imprint their brands in the consumer’s mind. When it comes to appealing to today’s socially-minded consumers, your company is no different than Nike, Pepsi, or Starbucks in the need to build social capital, not just financial capital...

Google+: The Pros & Cons | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
Here are some pros and cons of Google+, from the social network's early users.

The web is still talking about Google+, the search giant’s new social initiative and answer to Facebook. Now that it has been out in the wild for a few days, people have had some time to assess Google’s social network, especially where it hits a home run and where it strikes out.

We’ve already written a review about Google+, but we were curious about what early Google+ users thought about it. So we decided to ask a circle on Google+ about what they believe is good and bad about Google+. And they delivered: we got more than 100 responses about the pros and cons of Google’s new social layer.
