5 Ways to Humanize Your Company With Social Media | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

We call this crazy thing we’re all addicted to social media for a reason: it’s about people. It’s about developing relationships.

So, if you use social media to connect with your customers (or fans, or followers, or tribe…), authenticity is a must.

Keep reading to discover five tips to make your company more “human.”

#1: Use your name
Putting a name (that’s a real, human name) on your blog posts, tweets or status updates shows your audience that you’re not a robot or an automated stream of sales pitches and company news. Using your name when updating social media humanizes your content and makes you relatable for your audience...

Concerned about Facebook privacy? Disconnect blocks sites from tracking your data | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

With Facebook under pressure regarding privacy concerns, more and more users are becoming concerned about what information third-party sites have access to and how much of it they retain. If you’re one of these users who likes using Facebook and Twitter but prefer to keep your cookies in check, then you may be interested to hear about Disconnect.

Disconnect was created by three former Google employees who wanted to continue using Facebook but had concerns about their privacy policy. Their extension prevents sites and search engines such as Google, Facebook and Twitter from tracking your online activity while you surf the web.

Page Owners: Save your Discussions from Your Facebook Page Before it’s too Late! | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Since the early days, Facebook page owners had the possibility to add a Discussions tab to their Facebook page. At some point, over 55 Million users were using this tab to talk, share their points of view, give feedback, and connect with each other. Then Facebook changed the layout of the pages, which lead to a drop in traffic, but the tab is still widely used today: 22 Million users per month use this tab.

Conscious of those issues, we have built a free Facebook Application called Forum for Pages in order to offer a solution for page owners to keep the discussions on their Facebook pages. The application is easy to use...

5 Simple Steps to Prepare Your Facebook Fan Page for the Unexpected

5 Simple Steps to Prepare Your Facebook Fan Page for the Unexpected | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

There are a lot of rumors around the “blogo-twitter-sphere” about the changes fan pages may face when Facebook makes updates to the platform, once again. A few weeks ago, when Mark Zuckerberg made his infamous speech about the new changes, we were told “Spotific, frictionless, serendipitous” changes are around the corner.

Users with technical courage followed the hack instructions on Techcrunch and updated their profiles to the new format. The new format for users was said to take about a week until everyone was to be updated, but we are still waiting. Does this mean that fan pages will take longer to update? Or will this change hit out of nowhere, like the last time everyone flipped out about the new fan pages?

Social media success is fun! Social media satire 32 | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

An excellent analysis of my friend Peter. While this position is called "satire", it's the reality today. Indeed, social media take a big part of our time and it's essential that management be done carefully and tools (Buffer is a good example) to avoid problems in our lives every day!

Amazing set of features launched by Facebook since Google + launch

Amazing set of features launched by Facebook since Google + launch | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

It’s just over 3 months since Google dropped the bombshell that it was launching their own social network and inevitably the attention immediately switched to Facebook to see what they would do in counter the launch. Facebook were initially quiet but they went in to their famous “Lockdown” phase and started rolling out a whole host of new features many of which were lightly “inspired” by Google +. If anything the launch by Google seems to have helped accelerate the development cycle at Facebook with the main beneficiaries being the end users who are getting an improved service. Whatever way you look at it and despite the fact that Facebook were working on some of this stuff before anyway you can’t but be impressed at the staggering response to the launch of Google + by Facebook…

Why are we so willing to risk our own privacy online?

Why are we so willing to risk our own privacy online? | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
The notion of privacy both offline and online is currently in contention and is featuring heavily in the spotlight.

The concept of privacy is reaching a very fragile state. With every single status update that we share, we are foregoing a part of our privacy, readily handing over data to pretty much anyone that wants to access it. Yet it is something that we seem so willing to do. Privacy as a concept will only last as long as society functions in a way to protect it and that is rapidly eroding.

While we can access tools or processes that allow us to protect our own privacy, as a society we are increasingly ignoring these in favour of sharing pretty much everything...

Q: Growing tired of the Facebook privacy scandals, I tried to leave the social network, but you need to be a member now to access a number of outside websites. How can I get around this?

A: Facebook, as you're well aware by this point, has a history of privacy scandals. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is constantly trying to push what privacy means in the 21st century — how transparent should we all be on the Internet? — but with each step, a significant number of users push back. Last week, Facebook announced on its Developers blog that it was making it possible for third-party applications to gain access to users' mobile phone numbers and addresses. By early Monday morning the Facebook team had dialed back the change until further notice...

Superfans, according to Fong, represent just one percent of a brand page’s user base, but they are responsible for 80 percent of word-of-mouth about the brand, as well as 85 percent of content based on the brand.
