40 Creative Examples of Facebook Timeline Designs | inspirationfeed.com | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Few excellent ideas to give a great design to your Facebook timeline. I'll inspire me, to change my profil in the next couple of days. [note mg]

Recently at the F8 conference, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced a massive redesign to our favorite* social media website. Honestly The new updates are understandable and from their point of view provide a better experience for the end user.

From personal point of view, each time they implement a change I get more confused while being forced to learn the new layout. When will they leave it alone? I have no idea. Twitter had a major redesign a couple of months ago, and that was easy to learn. Enough ranting, let’s talk about the new Timeline feature.

Facebook Timeline is a unique idea that has been getting some heat lately. Basically speaking it’s a story of your life that is visible to you as well as your friends. With privacy being a widely discussed issue on Facebook, Timeline completely diminishes that case.

5 Ways Writers Can Break Out of the Tired Old Social Media Box

5 Ways Writers Can Break Out of the Tired Old Social Media Box | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

The social media world is changing daily. In other words, we must be alert and aware of the new tools that could support us in our approach. This interesting article speaks about some "new" tools that can also help us to go towards to success. [note Martin Gysler]

It’s time to teach that old dog some new tricks.

That old dog I’m referring to is social media.

Sure, you’re already blogging, and on Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Facebook, and more. Great.

But I’m telling you — there’s more to social media than meets the eye. The final chapter on social media hasn’t been written.

When I kicked off my writing business in April, I decided to use social media my way.

I approached these overused networks as if I’d never heard of them. I made my own rules. I set different expectations. You could say I wrote my own chapter on social media marketing.

Social Media Tools & Tech – 15 Tips to Not Lose Your Mind!

Social Media Tools & Tech – 15 Tips to Not Lose Your Mind! | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Sometimes it's really hard not to lose his mind. There is such an offer, which changes daily, it's sometimes difficult not to get lost. Maybe this article will give you some ideas to see more clearly! [note Martin Gysler]

I spent some time this evening cruising around Facebook, LinkedIn, Goolge+, Pinterest, and a few hundred other platforms. I had high hopes for finishing a couple blog posts but instead got lured in by the latest social news. You know how it is. Just as we get use to something it changes, a ticker is added, more of our activity gets shared, a new social network is born, mobile app launched and the list goes on.

As I wasted my night away in social slacker land with all my fellow slacker geeks I was amazed at how many people are simply losing their mind. I guess I am so close to all of it that I forget how many business leaders, entrepreneurs and consumers are still learning.

Tips for Starting a New Facebook Fan Page

Tips for Starting a New Facebook Fan Page | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

One of the things many people struggle with in social media are identity issues, and I am no different. Up until yesterday, my main Facebook entities included my personal profile and my fan page for Kikolani. While I love both of these, I found some problems with sharing links to posts I’ve done elsewhere. Specifically…

- Links I’ve posted to my personal profile lately haven’t gotten that much attention compared to plain status updates or photos.
- The fan page for this blog is focused on posts from this blog only. Fans didn’t sign up for posts from elsewhere.

So the solution was creating a new Facebook page. This page is specifically focused on my freelance writing and blogging as a whole so it can be a platform where I can share links to anything I have written anywhere...

Are you tired of seeing what all of your friends are reading on Yahoo News, the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal Social Edition, or the U.K. Guardian? Do you not care to see what people are listening to on Spotify, Mog, or Rdio?

Facebook’s expansion beyond the like button has expanded the amount of content coming into our news feeds, yet we’ve got more choices than ever for getting unwanted items off of our screens: hide, delete, unsubscribe, unfriend, report or block.

I’ve long advocated hiding over all the others, and more recently became a fan of unsubscribing with the advent of the subscribe button. Consider these two options before doing anything more drastic like unfriending or blocking...

This is a dangerous topic and I’m heading down a steep slope on this one as people may misunderstand, but it’s important to get it out anyway. Your Facebook page is important to you business, but it should only account for a small portion of your social media marketing day.

Period.

Most businesses that we work with have a strong leaning towards Facebook, just as they should. Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, even Google+ have a role in the social media strategy for most businesses, but Facebook covers most of the needs simply because it’s where most of the people spend most of their social media time. The challenge is no longer with convincing business to use Facebook. It’s in getting them to stop thinking that their Facebook page is their Facebook presence...

Study shows the new Facebook newsfeed impacts negatively on small Facebook Pages

Study shows the new Facebook newsfeed impacts negatively on small Facebook Pages | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Facebook analytics site Edgerank Checker has released a study into the impact of the new Facebook newsfeed, one month into its release.

When Facebook rolled out the changes to the feed last month, moving from a two tab system of ‘latest news’ and ‘most popular’, to the real-time updates and single stream, it meant that users were exposed to more content, as we were now seeing every single update made by any of our friends, no matter what page we were on within Facebook.

The impact for businesses however, was that Page content was getting less exposure, as you were now competing more heavily for space. The study from Edgerank Checker has found that over a sample of over 5,800 random Pages, 82% experienced a reduction in the amount of impressions on the Page.

Maybe some of you have wondered whether this approach was possible and if so, how to go about it, here is the guide that should put you on the right track. [note MG]

After reading Mike Sansone’s blog about how he was inspired by my act to leave Facebook, but chose to convert his personal page to a fan page instead of deletion, I was inspired to create this how-to do it post. Facebook has what they call a “help section” on this, but as usual, it’s completely unhelpful. Before I dive into the few steps it takes to do this, see what you think (left):

So, as you can see, it never really answers the question on how to convert my personal account to a Facebook page. I don’t know about you but Help sections on websites that don’t actually answer the question, I find quite frustrating.

Anyway, enough of my rant, here’s how you do it

How To Integrate Facebook, Twitter And Google+ In WordPress

How To Integrate Facebook, Twitter And Google+ In WordPress | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Integrating social media services in your website design is vital if you want to make it easy for readers to share your content. While some users are happy with the social media buttons that come built into their design template, the majority of WordPress users install a plugin to automatically embed sharing links on their pages. Many of you will find that a plugin does exactly what you need; others not so much. Some are poorly coded, and most include services that you just don’t need. And while some great social media plugins are out there, they don’t integrate with every WordPress design.

If you aren’t comfortable editing your WordPress templates, a plugin is probably the best solution. If you are comfortable making a few edits to your theme, then consider manually integrating social media so that you have more control over what services appear on your website.

Shopping brings some to tears, for the retail and fashion obsessed it is a joyous synergy and celebration of capitalism, consumerism and style.
Waiting for new designs to be launched at the favourite fashion store are waited upon by fashionistas with expectant excitement, like children waiting for Santa and his sleigh.

Sharing your shopping experiences was usually reserved to a chat over the phone with your girlfriends or while having a coffee or a quick liquid lunch.

Shopping has been social for a long time but now we have social networks that can enhance and accelerate that joy by being able to share in an instant with 200 friends at once on Facebook, rather having to wait for the weekend....

7 Tips To Maximize Shares of Your Facebook Posts

7 Tips To Maximize Shares of Your Facebook Posts | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Facebook recently changed the way users interact with content on fan pages: any user, including non-fans, can now post on fan page walls and like/comment/share fan page content. In other words, a Facebook user does not have to first like your fan page before they can interact with your content. This is a good thing!

Since this change, the emphasis has shifted slightly from gaining more likes (fans) to increasing the number of shares on each piece of content. When you craft your fan page updates in a manner that naturally inspires fans and their friends and visitors to your page to share with their networks, you set in motion ripples of viral visibility. With that being said, you still need a set of goals to guide your individual social media efforts. Like most marketing plans, social media channels need to go through the following five goals in order to produce the kind of results that are truly profitable.

Step #1: Identify warm prospects

Step #2: Establish a conversation with your prospect

Step #3: Gain rapport with your prospect

Why Google+ isn’t going anywhere

Google+ is designed to draw you away from both Twitter and Facebook. And in time, it could do this.

Yes, Facebook has over 800 million users. People like to state that number and then say “Facebook isn’t going anywhere.” Fair enough. But people do migrate. It happened to AOL. And if you ask me, this is a big deal.

ThinkUp, the free, open-source brainchild of programmer and Lifehacker founder Gina Trapani, keeps track of what you've done online. It extracts the data from the walled gardens that house more and more of people's digital lives then replants it in your own garden.

The app isn't simple to install, unfortunately. You need some server administration skills so you can host ThinkUp on your own Web server or run it on an instance of Amazon's EC2 cloud-computing service. (More on that point later.)...

Facebook’s Subscribe: The Death of Fan Pages, or is it? | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Facebook’s introduction of the “subscription” feature for profile pages has blurred certain lines between profile and fan pages for many individuals seeking to leverage social media to build their own personal brand and on-line presence. This is particularly true for many sales people, agents, etc. who are looking to use Facebook as a way to communicate with customers and prospects.

Facebook fan pages were originally created for brands like Coke or Walmart and expanded out to be used by celebrities, organizations, places, and many others. Many individuals who wanted to interact with fans, prospects, and customers also began to create fan pages since it was an effective way of separating their personal Facebook activity from their business or public Facebook presence. In addition, fan pages provided lower barrier to entry in that it did not require the page to “approve” each follower / fan / friend...
