30 Days with Siri

30 Days with Siri | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Disclaimer: Apple has done such a good job of giving a Siri a persona that many times throughout this article I will refer to Siri as ‘her’ or ‘she’. Thanks for making me think my phone is a person, Apple.

This is the tale of a 2 hour a day commuter, 8 hour a day Fortune 500 company employee, and part time Lifehack editor living in the USA using Siri over the last 30 days. Enjoy.

It’s hard to believe that the iPhone 4S has already been out for a month. In this small amount of time we’ve seen iPhone 4S battery issues come and go, Siri outages, and data usage problems (that may not really be problems). But, just like every year, the iPhone proves to be one of the best selling smart phones of all time. It isn’t really surprising, is it?...

How to Turn Your WordPress Blog Into a Native iPhone App with WiziApp | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

So we all know that everything is going mobile. Tech pundits are encouraging users to at least have a mobile version of their site. Most popular sites like NYTimes, CNN, etc. have their own mobile apps along with mobile versions. We recently saw bunch of other WordPress related blogs releasing their own iPhone apps. Yes, you are probably wondering what the heck are we doing? Why haven’t we launched our own mobile version or an app yet. Well, we used to have a mobile version before but our design and the service we used totally failed our users. So we temporarily decided to turn it off. But we are unveiling some very exciting stuff in November. In the past we have shown you how to create a mobile version of your WordPress blog...

Writing Tools, Part 3 – iPad Applications for Authors

Writing Tools, Part 3 – iPad Applications for Authors | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

In less than a month, my Apple iPad, as I described in Part 1 and Part 2, quickly became an essential writing tool helping me save time building my brand by planning, writing, promoting, and profiting from published books.

This is not to say, of course, that the iPad is a replacement for desktop or laptop computers. But, the iPad certainly complements them, adding a new dimension of convenience and usability that has recharged the way I work.

The following is an informal survey of the primary iPad applications that I have grown to depend on. If you’re already an iPad user, you undoubtedly have your own preferences – and I encourage you to share your preferences and experiences with me and other Personal Branding Blog followers...

iCloud Is a Bigger Deal Than You Think: It's the Future of Computing

iCloud Is a Bigger Deal Than You Think: It's the Future of Computing | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Remember life before cellphones? It's hard, because they are so ubiquitous and essential. iCloud marks a similar turning point, a transition from an old way of doing things. It makes computers easy for everyone, by making computing disappear.

Of everything Apple is rolling out today—and its rolling out a Hell of a lot of stuff—there is no bigger deal than iCloud. Forget Siri or Find my Phone or Notifications or any of the other numerous updates and enhancements that iOS 5 brings to the party...

The Evolution of Content Curation

The Evolution of Content Curation | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Up until a few weeks ago I had a Content Curation methodology I was happy with, then something changed.

Part of successful Blogging is reading a lot, and I mean a lot. I have often got 2 or 3 books on the go. I’m scanning Twitter and Google+ hourly, I subscribed to some key source newsletters, download white-papers and have hundreds of feeds in Google Reader.

As well as Blogging, it’s part of my day job to ensure I am aware of the latest trends online.

A by-product of this media consumption is Content Curation; sifting through the news and sharing what I feel is relevant to the people I spend my time with online. Hopefully, saving them the time and effort of finding the information themselves...

Bloom: A Different Kind of Productivity App for the iPhone

Bloom: A Different Kind of Productivity App for the iPhone | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

seattle-based Mindbloom has made waves with its digital inspiration and productivity web app, adding a gamification element to the niche that was both unique in approach and in accessibility. Now they’ve added a standalone app to its arsenal with Bloom, a free app that gives users a real kickstart in doing what really matters in everyday life. It offers a fun and simple way to transform photos and music into a private or shared digital inspiration. Bloom brings what’s really important in life to the forefront, enabling users to connect better with their lives as a whole as opposed to just their to-do lists. I’ve had a chance to play with the app while it was in testing, and the Mindbloom team definitely are onto something with Bloom...

Build Your Own Mobile App With Appsbar

Build Your Own Mobile App With Appsbar | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
Everyone talks about how important it is to build an iPhone or Android app, but it doesn’t look inexpensive or easy. Until now. I’ve been testing appsbar, a free Web-based app that allows small business owners create their own iOS or Android application.

I found appsbar.com when researching the digital coupon phenomenon (think Groupon and Living Social) and discovered a post by appsbar founder Scott Hirsch, who built the tool, in part, as a do-it-yourself coupon service. From the merchant point of view, the pricing of coupons is expensive. Most business owners considering coupons could benefit from a tool that lets you build it yourself and keep the profit margins higher...

6 Content curation apps for the iPad | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

It's always great to discover new things all by yourself, but often curated content that's brought to you from links your networks have shared is a much quicker and more efficient way to consume all kinds of news, rather than spending hours browsing all around the web for it.

One of the reasons so many people buy iPads is because content is often tailored to look SO DAMN GOOD on them, an appeal many of our favourite content curation apps have perfected.

We've collected together our top 6 content curation apps specially for the iPad..

Steve Jobs paved the way - Four traits I already admire in Apple as a new customer | D4Y Brand Builder - Done For You Social Media. | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it

Today Steve Jobs announced his decision to change roles at Apple. This is definitely a day that should be celebrated as Steve has improved the lives of millions.

I find it veryironic as I arrived home a few hours ago with my very new and sexy 11″ Mac Book Air. I purchased it over the weekend and they had finished my data transfer as from my old bulky, painful to use Acer when I heard the news. Sad I thought!

I’m new to the Apple family and I really didn’t know much about Steve except that he was the man behind those ‘fancy’ computers. I did a little Google search and found quite a bit and was inspired to write this.

He’s quite the entrepreneur, trailblazer and geek. (Newsflash I know!)

TimeSpan for iPhone is a beautiful way to count down to milestones

TimeSpan for iPhone is a beautiful way to count down to milestones | SOCIAL MEDIA, what we think about! | Scoop.it
Somewhere between ToDo lists and calendarappointments lies TimeSpan. You can think of it as a way to keep track of important periods of time, reminders with a tail, whatever, but basically the app allows you to mark off segments of time when the beginning and end are important.
A common use for this might be to mark off a working period, or a break period. If you’re a freelancer that needs to be reminded when you’ve worked a certain number of hours, for instance, you can do that with TimeSpan....
