In order to create a culture of innovation in the workplace,an organization must empower their employees to engage in independent thought processes. In  order to do so, employees must first be fully engaged and vested in the success of their company.Open discussion between all levels of the organization must  be encouraged.Companies need to be transparent in order to make their employees feel that they are an integral part of the business process.Lastly, employees must believe that their opinions matter.

Ciara Turner's curator insight, October 24, 2013 10:23 AM

Albert Einstein had it right when he said: “We cannot solve our problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”  With that being said it is time for entrepreneurial and small business owner of companies to step up their innovation creativity.

We have big dreamers and ideas that are always seem too left behind. In this article companies and small business revaluated how they allow their employee to make contributes to building a better brand. The question that was explored by most CEO's is, How to make this work environment a more engaging involvement for idea.

Well, some companies do this by creating a designated space where employees can be creative. Most office spaces, which are normally a sea of cubicles, have little room physically and emotionally where creativity and innovation can flourish.

From a PR stand Point that is brilliant idea because for those companies that still have their employee work in cubicles is only limiting them to that confined space. Also making that change in the office space can build a better bond between employee and employer. Provide an opportunity for employee to shine.

In relations to the book this can relate to Chapter 3 employee relations.  Employee Relations involves the body of work concerned with maintaining employer-employee relationships that contribute to satisfactory productivity, motivation, and morale. Essentially, Employee Relations is concerned with preventing and resolving problems involving individuals who arise out of or affect work situations.

So for those companies and business that have your employees still concealed to their cubicle and office space re-think and evaluate the amount of new and creative ideas that your employees produce for the better of the company.on page 33 in the Adventure book Kathryn Yates of Watson Wyatt,  stated "that a business function that drives performance and contributes to a company's financial success,".

Igor Tishkin's curator insight, October 3, 2013 12:19 AM

В статье приводятся примеры, кейсы, как представители малого бизнеса находят клиентов в социальных сетях.

Например, вот Эвола, 33, терапист, которая нашла клиентов в соцсетях:

en Evola, 33, a massage therapist and a registered dietitian, needed a boost after she left a corporate job to start her own practice in Chicago.

She got it from social media.

А вот Барнес, 49, который запустил трэвел-бизнес и обнаружил клиентов в социальных сетях.

Tom Byrnes, 49, an entrepreneur from Ireland, started Fun Packs, a company that makes travel entertainment toys for children. Byrnes says he's doubled his business since he started using social media.

Как же им это все удается? Неужели группы Вконтакте и Facebook приводят им столько клиентов, что они довольны и счастливы? Почему же в России это не работает?

Потому что, как минимум, они вели персональный блог и постили ссылки в соцсети. А не в группы.

A recent survey by HubSpot, a marketing software company, reports that 52% of marketers have found leads through Facebook so far in 2013, and 43% of marketers have found customers through LinkedIn and company blogs.

Я уверен, что корпоративный блог - это SMM, а не ведение групп в Вконтакте. Кто со мной поспорит? В комменты плз.

The State of Flipboard and Rise of Mobile Curation [INFOGRAPHIC]

The State of Flipboard and Rise of Mobile Curation [INFOGRAPHIC] | "social media websites" | Scoop.it

Flipboard is a personal magazine made up of the things you care about most. Recently, it surpassed 50 million readers and released a new feature that allows users to create their own magazines. Readers can now collect and curate the web pages they like into these magazines on Flipboard.

Since the new edition of Flipboard was announced several weeks ago, an additional 3 million readers have joined (for a total of 53 million currently). Also, more than 500,000 magazines have been created since too, given this great new way to curate content for mobile devices. In fact, there are over 6 billion pages flipped per month! More than 50% of Flipboard 2.0 users are reading magazines every day. 9am is the top time of the day for reading, while 7pm is the peak time for sharing. Some of the most popular magazines by publishers include The Esquire Interviews (by Esquire), Prefab Perfection (by Dwell), Women We Love (by Esquire), and The Beatles (by Rolling Stone). Using Flipboard is a truly an amazing experience and the site could be looking at exponential growth in the years to come as mobile devices completely take over!

Aaarrggghhh!! I want to know the end of the story! But I have to wait until it's published in September 2013.

Now here is brilliant biz storytelling! The Honest Tea founders tell their story of how they sold their business to Coca-Cola as a graphic novel (comic book form). This post shares an excerpt of their story and it's a cliff-hanger. I can hardly wait to find out what happened and hear how the story ends. I'm counting down the days until the book comes out.

So the company creates their story as a graphic novel, publishes a part of it on the web, doesn't share the end, and readers defnitely want to hear how it turns out. Think they'll buy the book? Oh yeah!

Take some lessons here. Let your creativity kick in and create something similar. Your audience will love it. And keep having fun (storytelling is fun BTW, if you haven't figured that out yet)! :)

Business owners can become very cocooned within their own little worlds, and if they allow this to happen, their world view and the benefits that such a view brings to a business will shrink away to nothing.

Reaching out from the world of your own business, into the world's of other businesses and the larger environment, can help a business owner to connect to those who can help them to view their own world differently.

This excellent article suggests that an alternative view of the world to your own view is invaluable, and it suggests that to effectively focus on your own business you need to spend time looking outside of your business for inspiration.

The tikker one reminds me too much of the movie "in time". It would be good to find out how they plan on counting life expectancy and if they can predict if a bus is going to hit you tomorrow, or is this more of a scare factor. Who would actually buy this product? Also with the Push workout device, why would people need it when they can get a trainer, does it work out cheaper?  The children app isn't of much importance to university students.

Content Curation your secret weapon - Drive Traffic & Find New Customers #contentcuration | "social media websites" | Scoop.it
Using Content Curation To Find New Customers.

Being an Internet marketer for many years I’ve seen the landscape change many times but one thing has stayed the same “Content is King”, when it comes to driving traffic to a website.

As a business owner we all want to get new customers to our websites. Many have tried blogging to drive traffic to their website and due to a shortage of hours in a day they end up dropping the blog or hiring ghost writers to develop content for the site. We now have a new player on the net and it comes in the form of Content Curation. No it will not completely eliminate business owners creating content for their website but adds a whole new area of content development for a website.

Over the past two years I’ve tested different content curation sites and tools and have found Scoop.it to be the leader in both innovation and traffic building potential.

Below are examples on how Scoop.it can drive traffic and help to show the world, yes the world that your business knows your market.

In this article are 3 areas that when done correctly can drive new traffic to your business or brand?.

See Brian, there is no "cut off" for good articles, just user ability and interest to finish the read... yes, the medium helps (in your case you mentioned "listen") whatever works. In any case, believing that a user won't read an article because it is too long is a fallacy. Someone who believes that simply is not understanding their audience and not giving them what they need and how they need it in digital format.

First and foremost, student writing is improving by leaps and bounds. When I read their blogs (which, by the way, are mature, insightful, funny and engaging), I don't find myself pulling my hair out over the careless mistakes they make in formal papers. Not every post is perfect, but the majority are well written and free of grammar and usage issues that I am so familiar with seeing in their other work. If they become sloppy, all I need to do is politely comment about it on their blog, and I don't see it again.

This is a useful experience of developing writing skills.  As a follow-up activity, writing by way of blogging could enable students to get a feel for the issue studied, and assume responsibity for public writing.

Blake Turnbull's curator insight, May 20, 2013 9:39 PM

First and foremost, I think it is safe to say that student writing is improving by leaps and bounds when it comes to technology. Blogs are a brilliant way to for students to keep an ongoing "journal" where they can write about whatever they want and improve their writing skills as a result. This article looks at a teacher who introduced blogging to her junior students and found huge improvements as a result. "When I read their blogs (which, by the way, are mature, insightful, funny and engaging), I don't find myself pulling my hair out over the careless mistakes they make in formal papers". Blogs are motivational and more interesting than conventional writing assignemnts, and students are consequently more open to learning from them as a result.
