Why specialists might be hampering innovation in digital transformation

Why specialists might be hampering innovation in digital transformation | Museums, innovation and emerging technologies | Scoop.it
The road to digital transformation is paved with innovation. Or, at least, the acceptance of an innovation mindset.

Kajsa Hartig's insight:
"Ideation is challenging work, and even so, is only half the battle. Identifying the end goal, quantifying the gaps in current practices and skills, and mapping the competencies that are required for modern marketing are essential steps in business transformation. Today, this process also needs to be agile and responsive to market and customer behavior changes over time. Implementation can be even harder. We have to recognize two different kinds of knowledge: first, developing a set of compelling statements to convince, mobilize and motivate a new team of skilled modern marketers and practitioners."

What is Self-Management? | #Innovation | Museums, innovation and emerging technologies | Scoop.it

Self-Management is an alternative to the traditional, hierarchical method of organizing we see most often in modern organizations. There are a few key ideas that are central to the Self-Management philosophy, namely that:

People are generally happier when they have control over their own life (and work) It doesn't make a lot of sense to give the decision-making authority to the person that furthest (literally) away from the actual work being done.

When you give good people more responsibility, they tend to flourish

The traditional hierarchical model of organizations is not scalable—in fact, it's a recipe for a slow painful death

There's an undeniable link between freedom and economic prosperity in nations around the world—and, further, an undeniable link between lack of freedom and corruption at the national level.

The same is true of human organizations in general.

How to Manage a Team of All-Stars | Museums, innovation and emerging technologies | Scoop.it
When Bain & Company asked senior executives from 308 large companies how they form teams for their most important initiatives, most told us they assemble teams based on whoever is available. Only a small minority indicated that they consistently create all-star teams, comprised of their very best talent, to tackle their company’s highest-priority issues.

How to Retarget the Middle of the Funnel in a Form-less World - Kissmetrics

How to Retarget the Middle of the Funnel in a Form-less World - Kissmetrics | Museums, innovation and emerging technologies | Scoop.it
The easiest way to segment traffic is based on specific page visits. You could also target specific page visits, too.

What’s that? “Your customer’s aren’t on / using Facebook?” Well you’re in luck. Twitter’s advertising platform supports the same specific URL-targeting. As does LinkedIn’s new and improved ‘Matched Audience.’ Now you can run retargeting ads across the three primary social networks for people in each stage of your funnel (based on pageviews and previous visits).

Now you’ve got interested leads being (automatically) followed up in multiple channels. The next step is to get on the phone with qualified ones. Enter calendar apps.

Sean McVey of Virtru changed their traditional contact form-based approach to Calendly in order to automatically schedule sales calls. And the results quickly took off. Conversion rates jumped to 50% and 61% of leads scheduled a call. Then once someone creates a Calendly appointment, you can send that data pretty much anywhere with a little help from Zapier.

Wow! We’ve become masters of anecdotes, and terrible at telling real stories | Museums, innovation and emerging technologies | Scoop.it
It’s a well-documented paradox of modern relationships: Our digital tools allow us to connect in ways that feel both intimate and distant. As promised, here's the second post I recently found about anecdotes versus storytelling.

I found this piece quite intriguing because it points to a possible decline in storytelling in favor of sharing quick anecdotes. What I like however are the tips for how to really share a story in conversation. Great stuff!

Anecdotes have their place, but never share an anecdote when a real story is called for (and that's way more often than you think!)

MUSEUMS & TECHNOLOGY: NEW AVENUES FOR WONDER

MUSEUMS & TECHNOLOGY: NEW AVENUES FOR WONDER | Museums, innovation and emerging technologies | Scoop.it
Through our arts program, Knight Foundation is committed to the belief that the arts create more informed and engaged communities. Art provides us with shared experiences, connects us to different world views, and offers us moments of personal reflection and wonder. We believe technology can amplify these qualities, and make it easier to interact, educate and communicate with audiences.

Technology can help reduce the distance between the museum and the audience, creating understanding, appreciation and ongoing relevance for exhibitions. Our investments in these twelve projects build off of Knight Foundation’s experience in seeding innovation in other fields, such as journalism and libraries, through a collaboration between our Arts and Technology Innovation teams. As in those fields, our approach here is to encourage risk taking and experimentation, while simultaneously focusing on learning and replication through open source software and shared methodologies.

New report shows digital skills are required in all types of jobs | #EU #Europe #ICT  | Museums, innovation and emerging technologies | Scoop.it
The European Commission has just published the final report of the study "ICT for Work: Digital Skills in the Workplace" on the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) on the transformation of jobs and skills.

The evidence shows that digital technologies are used in all types of jobs, also in economic sectors not traditionally related to digitisation e.g. farming, health care, vocational training and construction.
