In addition to read statistics about China - it is very nice to see real people talking about - how new communication ways have changed their lives and social behavior.

 

Conclusion: I think there is no big difference in basics of social media/mobile usage in China compared to Western countries. People are same and social media and mobile communication technologies fulfill same basic social needs.

Social media services used less while wathching TV decreased according to Motorola study. There is big difference between adults and kids .

 

"Fifty percent of global consumers do not follow social media conversations about a TV program on a companion device while watching a program, but younger audiences are more inclined to interact – 60% of 16-24-year-olds do follow social conversations during programming."

Maybe people have started to watch very good programs instead of poor ones that cannot keep you just watching without chatting online at same time! Loss of social media but victory for HBO? ;)

Cambridge researchers have created a website that combines the Facebook profiles of fans of companies and public figures with personality testing to create what they are describing as a “revolutionary” new marketing tool.

Analyzing tool to see what kind of people facebook likes your brand/company/politician.

 

Analysis based on following categorization:

"Each individual is assessed according to the standard "Big Five" personality traits used by psychologists and other researchers. These are: Openness (liberal vs. traditional); Conscientiousness (flexible vs. organised); Extraversion (introverted vs. outgoing); Agreeableness (competitive vs. co-operative); and Stablility (stressed vs. relaxed). Each personality profile is an expression of where the person is ranked on each of these five scales."


I suppose it could be used not only for analyzing your audience but also for finding audience with "right mindset" for your purposes.

The interesting question to ask of this infographic is does the 89% social media kids every decline in penetration. Do the kids every slow down. Don't think so. Instead I'm betting the social media penetratoin increases every that "kids" generation ages to the point where 100% penetration is a reasonable expection.

"First, over time Facebook users in our dataset exhibited increasingly privacy-seeking behavior, progressively decreasing the amount of personal data shared publicly with unconnected pro les in the same network.

 

However, and second, changes implemented by Facebook near the end of

the period of time under our observation arrested or in some cases inverted that trend.

 

Third, the amount and scope of personal information that Facebook users
revealed privately to other connected pro les actually increased over time|and
because of that, so did disclosures to \silent listeners" on the network: Facebook itself, third-party apps, and (indirectly) advertisers.

 

These fi ndings highlight the tension between privacy choices as expressions of individual subjective preferences,and the role of the environment in shaping those choices."
