Criticism on Social Media | Social Media Today

Criticism on Social Media | Social Media Today | Social Media Useful Info | Scoop.it

Social media is a great platform for company’s to share, extend and enhance their brand awareness. It has the ability to bring brands and consumers together, but it also opens the door to transparency and open criticism.

Whether it’s an angry customer complaining about their experience, a former employee bashing you, or even a competitor snooping on your activities, these situations happen to every brand.

By now you may have heard of the disgruntled British Airlines customer who spent $1,000 on promoted Tweets to share his negative experience. The result? His post was seen by more than 300,000 followers (negative brand awareness for BA!) and in the end, he was able to get his issue resolved.

Create Your Personal Brand in 8 Steps

Create Your Personal Brand in 8 Steps | Social Media Useful Info | Scoop.it

Take control of your online presence to create a memorable personal brand.

This post explains how to create your personal online brand online, based on interviews with four of the smartest people in the branding business:

1. Know yourself and what you're good at.

Your personal brand reflect who you are, so you can't possibly brand yourself if you're clueless about yourself. It means a realistic assessment of your strengths and weaknesses, what you love doing, and the skills that you've mastered or are working to master.

2. Create a memorable brand name.

If you've got a unique name, make that your brand name. If not, create a brand name that's a hybrid of your name and your career direction. You want people to find you, not somebody who's got the same name as you.

3. Capture your online turf.

Buy the domain name that corresponds to your brand name and secure the Facebook page, Twitter account, Google+ account as well.

4. Build a website for your domain name.

This is easier than you think. There's no reason to struggle with a complicate website editor when you can create a perfectly usable site using a product like WordPress.

5. Set up automatic updating.

To reduce the busywork of all those different social media platforms, set up an application that allows you to simultaneous post to all of them (eg. HootSuite).

6. Share useful content on a regular basis.

Don't try to be a full-time blogger. Instead share "helpful tips relating to the products [you] sell, relevant news, and personal updates that build emotional connection and convey positive character, such as a philanthropic interest.

7. Get feedback from people you trust.

The advice and encouragement of others helps keep your "brand development" on target.

8. Be authentic, even a bit risky.

As long as you don't come off like you're crazy or weird, a little opinion in your online presence is a good thing.

Social Media Case Study: Is Sharing Really Caring?

Randy Hilarski's curator insight, August 19, 2013 11:22 AM

If you build a community of followers people will read your content. My articles about expat living in Panama are read because people are passionate about the subject. If you niche is social media marketing and people just want to fill their streams with content this article makes sense.

Google Plus on the other hand is growing exponentially because it is kick ass! The bandwagon people are coming on board but they share and engage like they are on other networks, the user base tends to be more fickle and prefer real engagement not the supposed social media guru way of post and run.

How Klout Is Twerking Your Mind About Influence

How Klout Is Twerking Your Mind About Influence | Social Media Useful Info | Scoop.it

By setting the wrong expectations, social scoring companies have changed how marketing and PR professionals think about influence, and how to identify it.

Instead of finding influencers from a context and audience approach, marketing and PR professionals look at metrics like follower count, unique visitors, and social scores to get a glimpse on who’s “influential,” which in most cases doesn’t work – popularity doesn’t necessarily equal influence.
