Basically, this was an update on Google+ itself, which offered the reminder about how Google+ opened to the public in September 2011 and how Google ships a new version “almost” every day.

They're both building visibility. FIne, social and search are not currently and entirely in the same place, but clearly, social is replacing search rankings, and is therefore providing a more interchangeable visibility.

Perhaps the biggest barrier to an effective social media marketing initiative is both executives trying to sell social media internally and a failure to understand just how important social media marketing is to conversion.


I could give you a lot of data about social media, it’s short shelf life, the fact that only 16% of brands facebook posts are read and the fact that engagement is down since facebook evolved to timeline but it’s much more than that.


Marketers need to have a deep understanding of what they are selling (hint: it’s not product features) and understand what makes someone want to purchase their product. In addition they need to know that just because someone purchases their product does not mean they want to have a relationship with the brand.

Cooperative Content is the Future of Content Marketing.


So when I look out a year or three, I see a content marketing universe where the real differentiator isn’t based on which company is employing the most former newspaper columnists and photographers and having them engage in lots of lovely, omni-channel storytelling.


Instead, I see the differentiator being based on which company can create the most topical breadth, driven by hyper-relevant, low effort content made not by journalists, but by large groups of employees and current customers. 


This is what I call Cooperative Content, where the company, its employees, and its customers work together to cover as many informational bases as possible. Widespread employee blogging.
