Most people have the same experience with clickbait.

You stumble across it in your Facebook feed or Twitter feed. It reads, "13 Problems Every Blonde Bostonian Working at a Marketing Software Company Has." You recognize it's pandering to you ... but it's just so perfectly intriguing, you have to click. The first list item -- it's roughly on point, so you continue.

Suddenly, 10 minutes go by -- you've scrolled through the whole article and realized it's a load of crap that was meant to waste your time. You hate yourself a little.

Don't be upset -- it's happened to pretty much everyone. Clickbait has been around for over a century, and it's remained a common tactic for content creators because it works.

Sure, you'd like to get featured on expert round-ups (tip #1). But how do you get on these lists in the first place? Well, building relationship with influencers so that they'll feature you in these roundups in takes time. To get started with that, a good idea that we've tested ourselves is to curate influencers content on your areas of expertise. By adding your own comment to it and sharing it, you'll not only get their attention but also their respect. Which means they'll read your next email when you ask them something. In other words, give before you get.

Snapchat and Wickr are tearing up the social marketing playbook.

While it's no news that social media use has become fractured, a new Pew Research Center report shows just how increasingly complex it's become.

About 36 percent of U.S. smart phone owners are using messaging apps like Kik and iMessage, according to Pew. Apps like Snapchat and Wickr, which automatically delete sent messages, claim 17 percent of smartphone owners as users. 

"Users now have dozens of options to communicate with others as broadly or narrowly as they like," says Maeve Duggan, lead author of the report, which was based on phone interviews with nearly 2,000 U.S. adults, most of them Internet users.
