Interview with Valentine Belonwu, founder of JustRetweet

Interview with Valentine Belonwu, founder of JustRetweet | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it
JustRetweet is a credit-based Twitter sharing and Twitter following service that allows small businesses and entrepreneurs to get more exposure on the micro-blogging and social networking site. Meet Valentine Belonwu, the founder of the site, in this exclusive interview.

Cendrine Marrouat: Hello Valentine, thank you for answering my questions. As a starter, tell us a little bit about you.

Valentine Belonwu: Thanks for giving me this opportunity Cendrine. My name is Valentine, I am from Nigeria. I am an entrepreneur and blogger.

CM: What gave you the idea of creating JustRetweet?

VB: In the early 2010, I started a blog site called BigMoneyWeb and as of then, I was having some challenges to get other bloggers to share my blog posts. BizSugar was the only site that really helped me to increase the traffic to my blog. I needed to have more people to share my content anytime I published a new post and that was the main reason why I decided to launch JustRetweet.

How Sony Became a Pinterest Rock Star | Social Media Examiner

How Sony Became a Pinterest Rock Star | Social Media Examiner | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it
Callan Green, senior social media specialist at Sony Electronics, never thought she would want a pair of leather pants.

“But I saw enough pins on Pinterest that I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, I have to own them,’ and I went out and bought some.”

It was the fall of 2011 and she was discovering firsthand the power of Pinterest to drive sales.

The image-based, pinboard-sharing social media site launched in March 2010 is now the third-largest social network, behind Facebook and Twitter.

In March 2012, it tallied 2.3 billion page impressions to over 4 million unique visitors a day.

“We were all using [Pinterest] personally,” said Green of the social media team at Sony Electronics, “and realized the power of the platform to drive people’s interest in purchasing.”

Think Google+ is a ghost town? You're doing it wrong | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it
Google+ celebrated its first birthday yesterday, right in the middle of the Google I/O event where the company showed off all sorts of new stuff like the Nexus 7 tablet, Android's Jellybean update, Google Glass, and the Nexus Q home entertainment hub. And while Google+ was heralded by fans at the start as a Facebook competitor, a year later it has yet to prove itself as a significant threat in the realm of social media.

But I contend that Google+ is more than people expect.

Five Things More Important than Facebook Page Engagement | Social Media Today

Five Things More Important than Facebook Page Engagement | Social Media Today | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it

There’s a large misconception that engagement is the most significant aspect of a Facebook business page. This common message is so far-reaching that most online sources claim that high page engagement will result in increased brand awareness, stronger customer relationships and hopefully, perked profits. While engagement is imperative, it’s not everything. Every marketer and page administrator knows the importance and value of engagement, but few recognize what other components take precedence.

13 Little Landing Page Tweaks That Can Make a BIG Difference | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it
t's no news flash that inbound marketers have to produce a lot of content and offers. After all, without these valuable assets -- and plenty of 'em -- inbound lead generation would be quite a challenge. And with every new offer, marketers must also spin out a new landing page to go with it.

But because landing page creation has become such a regular practice, and considering that many tools make it so quick and easy to create a new landing page in minutes, attention to landing page optimization can also easily fly out the window. So if you've been guilty of launching landing pages left and right all willy nilly, you may be overlooking some little details that can take the performance of your landing pages from good, to great. Curate Brands, Issues and Stories with Informative Data Widgets Arranged in Visual Dashboards: Sparkwise

Curate Brands, Issues and Stories with Informative Data Widgets Arranged in Visual Dashboards: Sparkwise | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Sparkwise is a new, open-source free web service which allows you to assemble and curate beautiful looking data-dashboards containing the most relevant info and data about a person, a company or an issue. You choose.

How does it work.

You simply connect your social accounts to Sparkwise and then you start to drag and configure the widget buttons representing different data types onto your page. For example you can drag a Twitter Fan Count widget and specify for which Twitter account you want that widget to display the data. There are widgets for just about anything from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Google Analytics statistical counters to any data, image or video coming from other sources. You can even type in your own data.

You can create as many dashboard/pages as you like, and publish only the one you want, while keeping control of which widhets and data everyone gets to see.

If you want to create visual engaging story-pages with lots of data to support your focus, this is really a great tool to explore.

Recommended.

Want to get unfollowed on social networks? Try this!

I keep repeating it. Your success in social media (and elsewhere) depends on your hard work, commitment, patience — and most importantly on how caring and respectful you are towards your audience.

I follow a lot of Fan Pages on Facebook and spend some time every day observing how they connect with their followers. Sometimes, I catch an update that really bothers me.

The one below is particularly disturbing. I unliked the page instantly. It was not the first time that this entrepreneur used a derogatory tone when addressing their audience.

3 Stellar Productivity Tools You Need to Try

3 Stellar Productivity Tools You Need to Try | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it
Managing workflow across your company can get really annoying if everyone isn’t on the same page. That’s why customer relationship management tools came out in the first place. But the issue with some of these tools is that they can get complicated or are expensive.

No one understands these problems more than engineers that have to manage complex workflows at big companies like Facebook, Google and Microsoft. This may be why the following tools came from engineers who once worked for those companies. Although each tool is special in its own way, you’ll find that they all share two traits: simplicity and elegance.

Facebook Does More To Make Google Plus Viable Than Google Ever Could

Facebook Does More To Make Google Plus Viable Than Google Ever Could | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it
If you have read my blog for any length of time, you know I am no Google or Google Plus fan. I have repeatedly discussed my views on what can only amount to a failure on Google’s part to get in and actually dominate or at least become relevant in the mainstream social space.

This opinion is of course based on a premise. That Facebook doesn’t lose this on their own. What does that mean? I believe this battle is Facebook’s to lose, rather than something Google has to win.

Let’s face it, neither of these two giants are consumer privacy friendly. Facebook however, has mastered the art of pissing their user base off by consistently overreaching their power and control of their users information, as well as keeping users off center by changing the rules, settings and functionality of privacy management.

Pinterest is one of those guilty pleasures that allows you to view items and topics that interest you without paying the money, or cluttering up your house with extra magazines. Between October and December 2011 alone, Pinterest saw over 3.3 million visitors. That number has since gone up. Knowing this can be very beneficial to helping to increase your marketing. LinkedIn Blog » How to Showcase Your Personal Brand on LinkedIn: 8 Tips | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it

Like professional athletes, we now live in a time of career free agency, where we must regularly prove our unique value in a competitive and frequently changing marketplace. This means that it’s no longer enough to have a good reputation in one’s current position. We need to think about how we’re perceived in the broader marketplace by potential future employers.

Even if you intend to stay in your current job forever, clarifying your unique value is something you need to attend to. Clients, conference planners, awards committees and other professionals may be checking you out — primarily online — and you want to make sure that they find the best representation of you.

We’re talking about personal branding, a key element of success in the Internet Age.

Find Your Sources - A Curated Directory of Media Journalists on Twitter: Lissted

Find Your Sources - A Curated Directory of Media Journalists on Twitter: Lissted | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it

Robin Good: If you are looking for a tool that allows you to find and listen to reporters, journalists and bloggers in the area or on the topic that interests you the most, Lissted should be on your list.

"search for trusted print, broadcast or online sources; follow those who cover your industry or your area."

From TheNextWeb: "The press release distribution service RealWire has launched a new curation tool called Lissted. Its tagline is pretty self-explanatory: “Curating the media on Twitter.”

What it doesn’t say, though, is the size of its database (“the Lisst”), which includes over 10,000 journalists and growing.

As a matter of fact, media professionals can also request to be listed by linking their Twitter account and filling up a detailed sign-up form asking about their areas of interest and specialities.

...Lissted offers advanced search features; you can look for bloggers and journalists from all sorts of sectors or working for a specific media outlet in the region of your choice. Lissted will return detailed results, which includes Twitter accounts and Klout scores — and this search tool displays the first 100 results for free.

...

While some of these features are free as well for listed journalists, Lissted also offers advanced subscription plans targeted at PR and marketing professionals, which range from US$76 to US$232 a month (£49 to £149)."

Guest post: How to optimize social media tools for growing your business

Guest post: How to optimize social media tools for growing your business | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it
The following is a guest post by Amanda Watson. Her bio is at the end of the article.

Any business with any chance of success has to have an online presence. But that online presence has to be capable of reaching out to potential customers and building the reputation of the business. In other words, it’s not enough for a business to host a simple two page website on a WordPress platform. That might have worked in 2002, but this is 2012.

Social media tools provide the best chance for a business to develop a dynamic and engaging presence on the web. Tools like Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and Pinterest give businesses the mobility to seek out new customers on the web. An effective web marketing campaign carried out on Twitter has the potential to reach millions of people, and that’s not an understatement.

But what are the specifics involved when you want to leverage social media tools for your business? After all, it’s one thing to create a Twitter handle for your business; it’s an entirely different matter to take that handle and execute a marketing strategy that will win over new customers, much less garner interest in your industry. Here are a few tips I’ve learned along the way to help businesses optimize their social media use.

7 Content Curation Tools That You Should Start Using Today

7 Content Curation Tools That You Should Start Using Today | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it

If you are involved in social media, chances are that you have heard of content curation. The phrase has amassed a huge amount of publicity, as well as strong advocates and ennemies. The latter often contend that curation violates copyright laws and provides curators with an unethical way to draw attention to their own content.

I would say that nothing is farther from the truth. Curation is different from aggregation and content stealing. Curators spend hours reading and filtering content, only to select what is relevant and useful to their audiences. It is not an automatic process. It takes a lot of work and commitment.

I jumped on the content curation bandwagon almost two years ago, and have not looked back since. I enjoy being a curator, mostly because it allows me to establish my expertise in a very competitive niche (social media marketing and branding). Actually, it has been been one of the most effective promotional tools in my entire professional career!

There are tons of great curation tools that make a curator’s work easier. In this article, I want to share seven of my favorite ones.

How to Back Up and Move a WordPress Blog : @ProBlogger

How to Back Up and Move a WordPress Blog : @ProBlogger | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it

This guest post is by Caimin Jones of Genius Startup.

Sometimes you’ll need to move your blog from one host to another. It’s a bit of a pain and might seem a daunting task if you’ve never done it before.

But transferring a site is a fairly straightforward process that you can do yourself with an FTP program and this step-by-step guide.

Before trying the DIY method, it’s worth checking to see whether your new hosting company offers a site transfer service for new customers. Many do—but check whether there’s a cost involved. I’ve seen free services for this, but I’ve also seen prices around $300!

If you just need to learn how to make a simple backup of your posts, and don’t need to move hosts, take a look at this ProBlogger post.

But if you’re ready to back up and move your blog, let’s do it.
