The Secret to Social Media Fatigue

The Secret to Social Media Fatigue | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it
Cendrine Marrouat - SocialMediaSlant.com's insight:

“Social media fatigue” is a phrase used more and more loosely by entrepreneurs to express the frustration they experience when they do not get immediate results from their attempts at leveraging social media.

As Rhea Drysdale contends, it is time we stopped calling it fatigue, and started facing the real issues: fear and disappointment.

“It’s easy to pretend like we don’t care what others think of us and justify our fear and disappointment. The truth is, we do care. Maybe not about everyone, but we all have an audience who is important to us. They’re probably the motivation behind everything we do. I care most about what my family, my employees, my clients, and my mentors think of me. I don’t want to disappoint them or say anything stupid on social media that will make them question something about my character, work, or values. That’s why it’s so much easier to not even try. You can’t have negative consequences if you don’t act, so we let fear and disappointment produce “social media fatigue.””

7 Things Marketers Should Stop Doing Today - Forbes

7 Things Marketers Should Stop Doing Today - Forbes | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it
It's that time of year when a lot of folks like to make resolutions. New beginnings and all that. Well I'm not gonna take the conventional path here. I mean if you want to lose weight, the steps are pretty simple, right?
Cendrine Marrouat - SocialMediaSlant.com's insight:

There was a time when the “me me me” approach was the only thing marketers used to get results.

In 2013, it is time to rethink your approach and focus on those who keep you in business: your audience.

Let Michael Brenner help you make a difference with these seven tips.

“The “good old days” of uninformed and disconnected buyers ain’t coming back. Your audience is more informed than some of your own sales people. And they are telling their friends.”

What Your Business Needs to Know About Facebook’s EdgeRank - Brian Solis

What Your Business Needs to Know About Facebook’s EdgeRank - Brian Solis | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it

Facebook recently introduced the ability for brands to increase reach for important posts and updates, but that reach comes at a cost. The prices varies depending on how many fans you have in your community. This new feature coincided with changes to the company’s Edgerank algorithm, which is how Facebook automagically filters posts in and out of your stream. Similar to how Google’s PageRank sorts results to better match your search intention, Facebook uses Edgerank to ensure that engagement is optimized and spam is minimized.

Cendrine Marrouat - SocialMediaSlant.com's insight:

If there is one thing small businesses will remember from 2012, it is what Facebook did with the EdgeRank algorithm.

Brian Solis offers some very interesting insights on the whole issue. He contends that the decrease in reach is actually a good thing, that it has allowed to cut spam.

“Did Facebook purposefully change its EdgeRank algorithm to reduce reach and sell more ads?

Hardly.

If everyone reacted in similar fashion to Mark Cuban, not only would the business lose, fans lose as well. This is something I examined at length following GM’s famous pullout of its Facebook advertising budget earlier in 2012.”
