In 1998, the Internet was very different from today. Its big stars were Yahoo, AOL, Internet Explorer, Hotmail, and GeoCities.

 

I still remember the sound the modem made when I logged onto the Internet. Yes, there was no wireless Internet then. Actually,  most of us had never heard of unlimited access. My mom paid about $30 every month for 24 hours. If you went over the limit, each additional hour was three or four dollars!

 

Those born after the 1980s will probably have no recollection of what the online world looked like at the time. Luckily for us, Rebecca Greenfield has done some research and shares some cool screenshots and information in her article.
