Should You Repost Your Blog Content on Other Websites? A Data-Driven Answer

Should You Repost Your Blog Content on Other Websites? A Data-Driven Answer | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it

Reposting content on third-party websites has been a hot topic ever since LinkedIn started allowing members to write posts for the platform. Many people have been re-sharing their content verbatim there.

Neil Patel addresses the issue well in this post. It's backed by personal experience, which makes it a very valuable case study.

Patel offers three suggestions:

- Rewrite the content

- Talk to the site owner

- Post the content on the other site only

He also talks about the rel=canonical tag.

Very interesting!

Anatomy of an Effective Blog Post

Anatomy of an Effective Blog Post | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it

A successful blog post follows specific rules.

Rule #1: Catchy headline. Without it, you won't get far. Not many people will want to read past your title if you don't make it compelling.

Rule #2: Visual content. There was a time when blogging without image was a common thing. Not anymore. Pictures, videos, and infographics help entice readers.

Rule #3: Short paragraphs. 75 words maximum.

Michael Hyatt will tell you about all the other rules in a much better way than I ever will.

I always try to share my personal experience. Why? Because readers connect with stories. The more honest and transparent I can be, the better. In fact, my most popular posts generally come out of some failure on my part.

This Brand Blog Grew to 50 Million Monthly Readers in Just 10 Months. Here’s How

This Brand Blog Grew to 50 Million Monthly Readers in Just 10 Months. Here’s How | Business in a Social Media World | Scoop.it

I'm just quoting an extract from Natalie Burg's article:

Of those 100 or so fully composed daily stories, only about 15 will make it to the blog. The curators gnaw the contender list down by testing each with unpublished paid posts on Facebook. Rather than simply posting a link to their audience, PetFlow pays to distribute them to a certain segment of Facebook users who aren’t fans. If a post meets a certain criteria—a classified combo of likes, clicks, shares, or comments—it graduates to the blog and is shared with the PetFlow Facebook pack.

A fascinating look at the Upworthy-like curation system!

There are many bloggers in your field. Don't waste your readers' time by being interchangeable.

  • Be yourself.
  • It's ok if you are a slow writer -- I am! Take the time to edit your content.
  • Make it easy for people to understand you. Don't use bombastic words and phrases.
  • Imagine yourself writing for your ideal writer. When I blog, I always picture a friend or a reader whom I know. It helps tremendously.

As content marketing gets more popular, people are coming up with their own notions of what everyone should be doing. A lot of these notions are myths,
Cendrine Marrouat - www.socialmediaslant.com's insight:

With the rise of LinkedIn publishing, people have been re-posting their content on the platform. I have as well. But, now, the way I see it is that thought-leadership is not about trying to gather the biggest number of followers. It's really about the quality of that followership and the actions they will take as a result of reading you.

We are too focused on numbers. It has become an obsession with many entrepreneurs and small business owners.

WordPress, for example, has some very neat options that allow you to do that very easily. Three of them are highlighted in this article by Ben Huberman: pagination, page jumps, and "the more" tag.
