Pinterest - Should Marketers Care?

Pinterest - Should Marketers Care? | Social Media Marketing Strategies | Scoop.it
What those in the emerging technology and social marketing industry think about the value of Pinterest.

Pinterest is a virtual bulletin board or scrapbook, if you will. The technology allows users to pin links and images to boards organized against their likes, lifestyle, and interests. Think of a more advanced approach to social bookmarking, with capabilities above and beyond that of Delicious. Of note, the audience still skews very female (approximately 80 percent).

The Importance of Expanding Your Customers’ Social Experience | Social Media Marketing Strategies | Scoop.it
As businesses become increasingly “social,” adopting a strategy to increase customer engagement and activity is essential.

Does the Internet have a gender? | What Would The Internet Do? | Social Media Marketing Strategies | Scoop.it

The internet has no gender, and platforms, services and utilities that are changing our lives are designed with a generic user in mind, optimized with the goal of scaling rapidly and hitting the largest user base possible.

User experience needs to be designed to deliver on this promise, cutting the non-essential and providing them with real utility and control.

10 things you still need to know about social media

10 things you still need to know about social media | Social Media Marketing Strategies | Scoop.it

1. “Social” is something you are, not something you do. If your company culture doesn’t focus on building relationships with your customers, then chances are that you won’t use social media to do it either. The “media” doesn’t dictate how social a company is or isn’t. It simply enhances its ability to be a social business – if in fact it is – or illustrates the extent to which it isn’t.

Dear, Sweet Internet Marketer – Connect the Stinkin’ Dots Already

Dear, Sweet Internet Marketer – Connect the Stinkin’ Dots Already | Social Media Marketing Strategies | Scoop.it
I’ve been boiling all morning long – and what does someone who blogs do, but kick out a rant? All morning, I’ve been researching marketing agencies, digging into sites, news articles and various sources to find out about them.

There are many online marketers, SEOs, copywriters and so on that walk the walk. They do what they say you should do – because they honestly believe it works. Any time you decide to follow a marketing company through their blogs or their social accounts, keep your eyes open. If they don’t practice what they preach, at least to a reasonable degree, they’re just blowing smoke to look good. What they say may make perfect sense, but they don’t believe it.

Who Gives a Tweet? Evaluating Microblog Content Value

Who Gives a Tweet? Evaluating Microblog Content Value | Social Media Marketing Strategies | Scoop.it
A 2012 study from researchers from Carnegie Mellon University, MIT and Georgia Institute of Technology on audience attitudes and Twitter content.

Worth noting "Only 36% of the rated tweets were considered worth reading; raters considered 25% of tweets not worth reading and were neutral about the remaining 39%. “Given that users actively choose to follow these accounts, it is striking that so few of the tweets are actively liked.”"

Personally I think they pooled the wrong people. Meh still an intersting study, don't you think?

Well, Laura off the top of my head I don't see these statistics in my world. I actually see things a lot worst lolol that's probably why I'm very picky about what I read and share.

Social networking: My desire for minimalism and aesthetic appeal

Social networking: My desire for minimalism and aesthetic appeal | Social Media Marketing Strategies | Scoop.it
How many times have you sat staring at your MacBook or iPad, your mind blank, overwhelmed by the often chaotic virtual w...

I believe it’s OK to have a minimal approach to the internet, to desire an aesthetic interaction and to be selective in terms of where we best use our time. Better to invest in fewer social networks than try to spread yourself across many. There’s an abundance of great material and wonderful people out there and I’m more likely to find what I need by focusing on what’s truly useful for me. It’s a simple lesson really, but form does follow function and less is undoubtedly more.

That’s what Narrative Science, the start-up that specializes in robot-written stories, did earlier this week. The result isn’t elegant, but it gets the job done, in a brute force sort of way.

Rather than relying on a traditional menu bar with all the top level options, we want to give a person contextual options. It gives us the opportunity to communicate values, clarify salient points, and establish our dazzling rhetoric along the way. If they are interested in "who we are", we have a chance to tell them a story about our history, philosophy and values, introduce them to the team, and impress the human qualities of our agency...

Digital Services Seek a Captive Consumer

Digital Services Seek a Captive Consumer | Social Media Marketing Strategies | Scoop.it
The new strategy for technology companies is to build a device, sell it to consumers and then sell them the content to play on it — and maybe some ads too.

“It’s not about brands or devices or platforms anymore,” said Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at Gartner. “It’s about the ecosystem. The idea is to get consumers tied into that ecosystem as tightly as possible so they and their content are locked into one system.”

5 Rules To Turn Your Local Business Into A ‘Social’ Business

5 Rules To Turn Your Local Business Into A ‘Social’ Business | Social Media Marketing Strategies | Scoop.it
Before I dive in and give you some juicy, usable ideas for winning new customers and growing your business through social channels I want to get something straight.

In the world of Social PR, no one shares stories about average experiences. Their tweets and Facebook posts are either about something they love or something they hate. Positive publicity is what you’re after, but even a negative story creates a buzz and gives a business something to react and respond to. No news is not good news.
