What those in the emerging technology and social marketing industry think about the value of Pinterest.
Pinterest is a virtual bulletin board or scrapbook, if you will. The technology allows users to pin links and images to boards organized against their likes, lifestyle, and interests. Think of a more advanced approach to social bookmarking, with capabilities above and beyond that of Delicious. Of note, the audience still skews very female (approximately 80 percent).
That social media has become essential in online media campaigns has become a truism. But how do you combine your Twitter strategy with your search engine marketing campaign, and how do you generate enough followers for Twitter to make a difference?
As businesses become increasingly “social,” adopting a strategy to increase customer engagement and activity is essential.
Ultimately, as far as they are allowed to be the intermediaries, the social networks own your customers and your customer data. Not only are they free to charge you for that data, they can, and will, sell that data to your competitors.
How to use the guide: 1) Click here 2) Go to 'Start' 3) Move through each of the questions and follow the 'yes' or 'no' arrows as appropriate 4) Want to learn more about a particular topic? The bullet points are links to resources. Simply click on whatever takes your fancy and the resource will open in a new tab.
What the rise of social media capitalism means for your marketing strategy.
Stop talking about your products. No one cares about your products ... yet. Instead, you need to create blog content that solves key problems your prospects and leads face. Once this content brings them into your blog via social media and search, you then have the opportunity to begin to share more product-focused information.

The internet has no gender, and platforms, services and utilities that are changing our lives are designed with a generic user in mind, optimized with the goal of scaling rapidly and hitting the largest user base possible.
User experience needs to be designed to deliver on this promise, cutting the non-essential and providing them with real utility and control.
1. “Social” is something you are, not something you do. If your company culture doesn’t focus on building relationships with your customers, then chances are that you won’t use social media to do it either. The “media” doesn’t dictate how social a company is or isn’t. It simply enhances its ability to be a social business – if in fact it is – or illustrates the extent to which it isn’t.
I’ve been boiling all morning long – and what does someone who blogs do, but kick out a rant? All morning, I’ve been researching marketing agencies, digging into sites, news articles and various sources to find out about them.
There are many online marketers, SEOs, copywriters and so on that walk the walk. They do what they say you should do – because they honestly believe it works. Any time you decide to follow a marketing company through their blogs or their social accounts, keep your eyes open. If they don’t practice what they preach, at least to a reasonable degree, they’re just blowing smoke to look good. What they say may make perfect sense, but they don’t believe it.
A 2012 study from researchers from Carnegie Mellon University, MIT and Georgia Institute of Technology on audience attitudes and Twitter content.
Worth noting "Only 36% of the rated tweets were considered worth reading; raters considered 25% of tweets not worth reading and were neutral about the remaining 39%. “Given that users actively choose to follow these accounts, it is striking that so few of the tweets are actively liked.”"
Personally I think they pooled the wrong people. Meh still an intersting study, don't you think?

I believe it’s OK to have a minimal approach to the internet, to desire an aesthetic interaction and to be selective in terms of where we best use our time. Better to invest in fewer social networks than try to spread yourself across many. There’s an abundance of great material and wonderful people out there and I’m more likely to find what I need by focusing on what’s truly useful for me. It’s a simple lesson really, but form does follow function and less is undoubtedly more.
Don't let all the hearts and flowers floating around on Pinterest fool you. Behind all that beauty, Pinterest is fast becoming a heavy hitting marketing tool.
Part of Pinterest’s appeal is that it’s beautiful. Enter the lovely world of Pinterest, and all the troubles of your day-to-day life just seem to slip away in a stream of perfect little black dresses, baby otters, and cherubic children who never seem to get dirty or mouth off to their parents.
I'm still not convinced... sure I got an account and poked around. ~Meh
Sitemaps are the traditional way to visualize and structure a website during the early stages of development, but the linear and hierarchical nature is outdated, and has built-in shortcomings that are often counterproductive to the purpose of a...
Rather than relying on a traditional menu bar with all the top level options, we want to give a person contextual options. It gives us the opportunity to communicate values, clarify salient points, and establish our dazzling rhetoric along the way. If they are interested in "who we are", we have a chance to tell them a story about our history, philosophy and values, introduce them to the team, and impress the human qualities of our agency...
An ad for McDonald's McBites that aired in Kansas City and featured a pit bull mention has caused widespread outrage. Here's how you can bounce back from crisis.
Seriously people need to get a life... Not everyone is going to agree with you. Whether it's the pitt bull lovers or god forbid greyhounds. Bottom line is we are all humans and we do make mistakes. Let's move on shall we?
The new strategy for technology companies is to build a device, sell it to consumers and then sell them the content to play on it — and maybe some ads too.
“It’s not about brands or devices or platforms anymore,” said Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at Gartner. “It’s about the ecosystem. The idea is to get consumers tied into that ecosystem as tightly as possible so they and their content are locked into one system.”
Before I dive in and give you some juicy, usable ideas for winning new customers and growing your business through social channels I want to get something straight.
In the world of Social PR, no one shares stories about average experiences. Their tweets and Facebook posts are either about something they love or something they hate. Positive publicity is what you’re after, but even a negative story creates a buzz and gives a business something to react and respond to. No news is not good news.
I’ve been in publishing since before fax machines, and like many veterans of old media, I’ve seen technology rip the living heart out of those great institutions that came of age with moveable type. For the most part, the leaders of those newspaper...
