I agree that businesses should push marketing efforts towards social media. I spend a lot of time on my own social media, and I do use it to find gift ideas. The article explains how The Mall of America uses twitter to help holiday shoppers find available parking. This is a great idea because one of the major stresses during the holiday is finding parking. I know that this helps drive business to the mall by making the customers’ experience less stressful. I know I would be more inclined to shop at my local mall if they did something similar. 


Overall, I agree with this article in that it is important for marketers to be on social media during the holiday season, however, it is important for marketers to do this all year long. Customer traffic has the potential to greatly increase during the holidays because people are spending more on gifts and other holiday essentials.

I think that this is a great way to gain brand awareness among all social media users. I think that I respond positively to promotions and graphics for holiday items on my social media. Like sites that post "10 gifts perfect gifts for your loved ones this year" I usually look at these things so I can give myself ideas for the holidays. I also enjoy baking a lot so when I see posts for recipes for the holidays I usually click to find out more and get ideas for what I want to make for the holiday. I also think that the more graphics there are the more likely I am to click the link. I usually just pass over the wordy posts and focus on the images I see.

We talked about SEO in class and I think this article has great tips on how to accomplish ranking higher in Google results. Having a great title is really important when it comes to being ranked higher on Google. Obiviously the title tag needs to be short, this article says under 55 words and the keywords that you expect people to look up in order to find you need to be in the title. Using visual media also helps because its boosts the user-interaction signals that Google pays attention to. As stated before, mentioning keywords is crucial. The more keywords, the better.

            There are different ways to target different generations by identity on social media.  There are five broad identity categories such as personal, relational, social, collective and superficial.  Relationships are a huge key when it comes to social media.  “84% of respondents in the survey said their relationships and being a good friend to those I care about are important factors when they share content online” (Johnson, 2014).  Younger age groups, aged 18-34 years old said goals and dreams were very important to them, along with physical appearance and superficial identity.  Generation X consumers, aged 34-50 years old were found to be the most accessible with the identities they associate with.  And in the Baby Boomer’s generation, aged +65 said that their purpose of sharing content online is their relationships with people who they feel close to.  This was higher than any other generation.  As you can see businesses can target all different generations for their products with the help of social media.

The article “Should your e-commerce brand market on emerging social networks?” discusses what criteria a brand should consider when deciding to position itself on an emerging social media platform. The author divides these platforms into two categories: social commerce platforms and emerging visual sharing platforms.  A brand should consider using social commerce platforms if it matches the following criteria: the brand’s organizational attitude reflects innovation and new ways of thinking; the platform fits the brands target demographic; and the product fits the platform. Moreover, a brand should consider using an emerging visual sharing platform (such as Instagram, Snapchat, and Vine) if it matches these criteria: the platform fits the brands target demographic; the brand has enough resources to manage this platform; and if the brand has a mobile focus. The criteria that stuck out most to me were the organizational attitude and the amount of resources. These interested me because they both reflect the risk a brand takes when using a new social media platform. It would not make a lot of sense for a company to join a platform if it does not fit with the brands strategic goals or if that brand does not have the resources to manage it. In fact, if a brand does not have the necessary resources, joins that new platform anyways, but then has to discontinue using it, they could be looked at in a bad light by consumers.

I found this article to be a good read. There were a few typos which shouldn't have been there, but overall the message was effective. It can be very useful information for businesses trying to incorporate a social media marketing strategy plan.

The article "Social Media: Your Business Can't Thrive Without It" is written by Stoney G deGeyter. The article is about achieving top search engine rankings through social media. The question in this article is if businesses SEO can thrive without using social media. The short answer is "no". The answer to why the answer is no is explained throughout the article. The author explains that using links used to be the main way to achieve top search engine rankings. But today, social media must also be used, as well as content, site usability, and conversions. The summary of the story is: it is difficult to achieve top search engine rankings without SEO and social media; and an SEO won't thrive if social media isn't used.

 

I thought this article was a great read. It put the importance of social media into perspective and provided useful insight regarding the topic. It is true that social media plays a large role on many factors in business. Businesses should definitely utilize social media to keep up in today's world.

            Search Engine Optimization will no longer be possible or thrive without the use of social media.  Social media has changed the SEO landscape forever by becoming the new backlink.  Using social media pages is a much better way to measure our likes and dislikes in real-time.  Search engines are then able to improve the rankings to make it more pertinent to people searching the Internet for those specific things.  Now businesses can get better rankings in other ways besides just SEO and links based on social, content, usability and conversions.  Back in 1999 SEO was based just on-page factor rankings and then Goggle introduced using links to make their searches more relevant than other search engines.  Social media may not directly increase SEO but it definitely helps it increase the rankings on searches.

This article explains how important social media is for SEO (search engine optimization). This is because search engines are looking for ways to incorporate socials signals into their ranking algorithms in order to provide more relevant search results. Social media can be used to increase rankings in search results. Rankings have always incorporated SEO and links, but today social and content weigh in more than before. This is so search results are more valuable.  If your content gets shared, then your rankings will improve. 

 

I agree with this article when it explains that social media does not directly increase rankings, but it does increase ranking opportunities. Social media is an engagement platform, not a promotion platform. In class, we learn about the fifth P, participation. It is the main purpose of social media to engage with your social network. Promotion is just a small part of it because sharing content can feed into a self-promotional aspect. 

 

The article asks, “…would you continue to do what you do on social media if no one engaged, followed, or commented back?” My answer is no, of course not. The main reason I use social media is to engage with my friends and others within my social network. I post things in order for people to comment back or like what I shared. Overall, engaging in social media has both a site-wide and a page specific effect that can translate into ranking opportunities.

The mistakes that interested me most were making the content perfect and long as well as salespeople getting in the way of content creation. Although I am not too familiar with content marketing, a part of me has always thought that most content has to be long and filled with substance to be considered good. However, as I was writing the blog for my group during our last project, I realized that I could post a quick video and that could have the same meaningful impact as a long post (sometimes even a more meaningful impact).
