50 Great Ways Schools Can Use G+ Hangouts - OnlineDegrees.org | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it

At its core, Google+ Hangouts is simply a souped-up version of video chat. But when it comes to education, it’s so much more than that. It becomes a vehicle for learning, sharing, collaboration, and ideas. Whether you’re an educator discussing learning practices, or a first-grade classroom speaking with an astronaut, Hangouts have seemingly endless possibilities

New research from the IPA on employee voice makes for a thought provoking read.  One of the key findings of the report entitled Rethinking Employee Voice indicates that "Employers - particularly larger orgsniations - remain very wary about employes using social media to express opinions about them"

This is a very interesting point and I shall be writing a proper post about this tonight when I have time...

really cool infographics!

Nicole Elizabeth Sands's curator insight, November 18, 2013 8:10 AM

Infographics are especially useful when it comes to correlating information, with us having a visual representation of different data displays  we are better adept to making  meaningful assumptions of that data. Still it's important to never disregard the sources, those are what validate the pretty pics/infographics.

Learning Design - The Project

Learning Design - The Project | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it

"Describes the Australian University Teaching Committee (AUTC) project of reviewing and selecting exemplary learning designs.

Learning designs refer to a variety of ways of designing student learning experiences, that is, a sequence of types of activities and interactions.Learning designs may be at the level of a subject, or subject components. A learning design can be considered the framework that supports student learning experiences.

This project focuses on learning designs implemented with the use of Information and Communication Technologies. Oliver (1999) argues that a learning design comprises the following key elements:

*Tasks that learners are required to do.

*Resources that support learners to conduct the task.

*Support mechanisms that exist from a teacher implementing it."

These three components need to be considered against the intended learning outcomes.

The principles that inform this framework according to Boud and Prosser (2001) include:

Engage learners; Acknowledge the learning context; Challenge learners and Provide practice.

"In different learning contexts some of these principles may be more prominent than others, however, all four principles are considered important in any higher education context. The principles are holistic in that they incorporate both learning outcomes and learning processes and are based on the premise that learning arises from what students experience from an implementation of a learning design. Designers/educators need to examine their learning designs from the perspective of their impact on learning, that is, placing themselves in the "students’ shoes" and thus examining their learning designs from the student perspective."

The purpose of this annotated bibliography is to examine thirty-one selected references that describe the changes to instructional design principles, which are taking place, or need to take place, as a result of the increased usage of mobile devices. In recent years the technology and tools available for learning have changed dramatically, but teaching and learning methodologies have not significantly changed and traditional educational methodologies have been applied to new delivery methods.

Content Curation Goes Mainstream: What Is A Content Strategy And Why Do You Need It? - Forbes

Content Curation Goes Mainstream: What Is A Content Strategy And Why Do You Need It? - Forbes | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it

Recently I attended Content Marketing World with over 1,000 other passionate marketing and business professionals. The topic was content marketing and how to effectively deploy content strategies.

Marty Note
Found this excellent Forbes article about curation up from @BrennerMichael on Twitter. You know content curation has hit the big time when you see such a well thought out article in a major publication like Forbes. This isn't just a, "trend is happening" article this is advocacy. Advocacy only happens by majors once tipping points are in the rearview mirror.

I missed Content Marketing World this year, but there were less than a thousand there last year and I thought that to, the conference's attendance, was a sign the tipping point on content curation was behind us. The fact Forbes was there and reported on it is double jeopardy.

A Day In The Life Of A Content Marketing Manager

A Day In The Life Of A Content Marketing Manager | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it
They say that content is king...the Yin to social media’s Yang.

Most marketers understand the need for high quality content and they know that businesses today are being asked to become publishers.

With demands for such content, make sure you have the right people in place that can create content.

If you are a smaller company, then one or two people could suffice. But a larger company really needs a team of content creation.  Because content marketing roles are relatively new to B2B marketing, a lot of marketers don’t know where to start.

Marketo’s Content Program Manager, Dayna Rothman, gives  us some tips on where to start:

What does a content marketer do?

What should you have your content marketer working on?

Creating thought leadership pieces (from initial copy development to asset production) Definitive Guides Whitepapers Checklists/Tip sheets Partner eBook co-creation Blog management, curation, and contribution Webinar program planning and production (this is key, since webinars spin off so many other forms of content, including Slideshare presentations, podcasts, videos, and sometimes blog posts and eBooks) Copy editing all contributed content Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and social promotion

Should I Invest In SEO Or Social Media?

Should I Invest In SEO Or Social Media? | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it

Prospective clients often ask me if they should invest in SEO (search engine optimization) or social media. Their company only has so many marketing dollars to spend, and they want to spend them as wisely as possible. They have heard a lot about both SEO and social media marketing, and know they should probably be doing at least one of them, but they do not understand either one enough to make the decision on their own.

SEO and social are more interdependent than ever. Search engines are using social “signals”, such as “likes”, retweets, and “plus ones” as votes of confidence, similar to the way they look at relevant inbound links.

On the flip side, it is extremely beneficial to have carefully-selected key phrases in your social content, since more and more social media posts are being indexed by search engines. It also helps to have those phrases prevalent in your social posts when users run searches within a social network.
