It is interesting to see the change in mainstream media over the last two years. 2012 has shown that many have significantly embraced social media.

This post gives the breakdown for the top 10s in Facebook and Twitter. The top 3s are:

 

Top 3 news organizations with the most people following their journalists on Twitter (as of 12/21/12):

 

CNN: 17,004,673 total followers

New York Times: 10,361,924 total followers

ABC News: 8,080,255 total followers

 

Top 3 news organizations on Facebook:

CNN: 4,371,614 total likes

Fox News: 2,784,338 total likes

BBC: 2,635,351 total likes

 

Top 3 most followed journalists (as of 12/21/12):

Anderson Cooper: 3,455,256

Piers Morgan: 3,004,433

Rachel Maddow: 2,434,423

There are so many 2013 predictions, it is a little challenging to decipher which ones  to note and consider and which ones… well you know.

 

As well as living in a world where social has taken it by storm, we are also are living in a world where entrepreneurs have come into their own. This is the reason, I am interested I the predictions listed in this post, namely:

 

Alternative financing strategies such as crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending sites

 

Scalable technology- seeking technology as a strategic advantage to scaling successfully

 

The human capital problem- evaluating the right talent to support your business will continue to be key.

 

Networking will continue to be very valuable.Entrepreneurs are getting younger- as young as 15!

 

Social entrepreneurship- the concept of doing well by doing good.

 

I think these are good points and have made a mental note going forwards.

Today’s consumer no longer just consumes. In fact we should no longer call themconsumers. Here’s why.First of all lets revisit the word “consume”. Originated some where between 1350-1400 and has the following meanings: 

to destroy or expend by use; use up.

to eat or drink up; devour.

to destroy, as by decomposition or burning to spend (money, time, etc.) wastefully.

to absorb; engross: consumed with curiosity.

to undergo destruction; waste away.

to use or use up consumer goods.

 

 

You see my point. Does this describe today’s consumer? Do we really just absorb, use, spend and purchase goods? Not at all. We do so much more before “consuming”.Today’s consumer has totally changed. They are savvy and have a voice.

 

I would like to propose an alternate name. The Comsumer!

The name replaces “Con” with “Com” highlighting the importance and characteristics of the 8 com-habits that I would like to propose:

 

 

dot com savvy

communicate

comprehend

community driven

compare

compose

command

commit

I think it stimulates thought and could profice top level tips to networking with potential prospects. However I would use hte results to stimulate thought  and not as an exact science. The author shares some good quick tips on managing your Google Community - for both your brand and interest. 

The tips include

1. Build your own Communities owned by your brand page

2. Post regularly both your own and curated topical content to your Communities

3. Build a strong moderator team

4. Participate as your brand in other Communities5. Invite the outside world to your Community6. Use Communities for customer service

 

 All good points however #4 is a delicate balance. I would advise that this is not about promoting. I would also suggest developing the relationships and contributing before promoting your own community. 

 

A quick informative read.
