12 Most Important Reasons to Love Klout

12 Most Important Reasons to Love Klout | Social Media Optimization & Search Engine Optimization | Scoop.it

By Mark Schaefer - http://bit.ly/xiU5Qu

@markwschaefer

Many people hate Klout. Scratch that. Many people LOATHE Klout.

And for good reason.

The company that purports to measure your level of influence draws howls of indignation at the very idea of being rated in a public way, let alone represent “The Standard for Influence.” Klout’s PR miscues and well-publicized examples of people gaming this social scoring system just add fuel to the fire.

But after studying this emerging social influence trend for more than a year to research my new book Return On Influence, I’m convinced they are on to something.

Here are 12 reasons to take a second look at Klout and “social scoring”: http://bit.ly/A4ht0J

Drag and Drop News Curation: Storify for iPad Is Here

Robin Good: The new Storify news curation tool is now available for the iPad, bringing the ease of drag and drop to the curation world.

"Founded in 2009, this seven person company has done a remarkable job surviving the market and being one of the major players in the world of content curation.

[Storify has been adopted by] 22 out of top 25 news sites in the United States...

Just like Twitter has their trending topics, Storify’s service allows people to keep track of the relevant social media trending topics. Users are able to tell their own story about these major events (like Whitney Houston or Greece’s economic downfall or even Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime performance), and embed them on their own website.

Be your own crowd-sourced storyteller, by dragging in tweets, status updates, photos, and videos from a variety of social networks in order to help you create a better story and telling experience."

(Source: http://bub.blicio.us/storify-launches-free-ipad-app-to-help-content-curation-on-the-go/)

Check out this video interview shot yesterday with the Storify team demonstrating the new app: http://youtu.be/u-Ua4LIbzMY

The Storify app is free to download right from the iTunes store: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/storify/id488223180?ls=1&mt=8

How Content Turns Prospects Into Customers | Social Media Optimization & Search Engine Optimization | Scoop.it
Let’s face it—it’s not easy to create compelling content day in, day out. In fact, without proper knowledge, it’s practically impossible. But it can be done. It starts with understanding three fundamental things about yourself and your market space:
Who YOU are—What’s your story?
Who THEY are—Your customers, and why they should care about your story.
What CONTENT can you provide them to build loyalty?

This is the keynote address of CollabTech 2010 conference by Howard Rheingold, an early online innovator and scholar of virtual communities. I personally take for granted the social media tools available at my disposal in 2012, and have much to be thankful for to pioneers (Rheingold developed the software for http://socialmediaclassroom.com which I discovered after naming this curated site).

4 Ways Gain More Facebook Fans for Your Business Page

4 Ways Gain More Facebook Fans for Your Business Page | Social Media Optimization & Search Engine Optimization | Scoop.it

1. Create awareness among your existing customers.
- Chances are that your existing customers belong a social network. There’s a high probability that the social network in question is Facebook. If you have newsletters or other correspondence sent to your customers regularly, make sure you include information about your Facebook page. Reaching out to your existing customers is a great way to build a solid fan foundation for your Facebook page.

2. Add links/plugins to your web properties.
- If you have a blog, make sure there’s a like button somewhere so that visitors can like your Facebook page at the click of a button.

Do the same for your main site. Plastering links on your various web properties can make it easier for new visitors to find your Facebook page and like it.

3. Create a Facebook landing page
- Certain apps on Facebook can help you turn one of your Facebook page tabs into a landing page. Here, you can display different offers and/or news using basic computer coding however you want.

Because the other tabs on Facebook are fairly plain and straightforward, having a beautiful landing page can attract new likes and give your page a personality. Which brings us to…

4. Have a strong personality Don’t just spam your own Facebook page with links to blog posts or your site. Post a variety of content — blogs, photos, videos, surveys, polls, etc. Using multiple media can help break up monotony and give your page some much-needed freshness.

Curation, Just Like PKM, Is About Adding Value To Help Sense-Making | Harold Jarche

Curation, Just Like PKM, Is About Adding Value To Help Sense-Making | Harold Jarche | Social Media Optimization & Search Engine Optimization | Scoop.it

"...I want to point out that people with better PKM skills, an ability to create higher value information, and a willingness to share it, will become more valued members (nodes) in their professional networks." (Harold Jarche)

Robin Good: In this short article analyzing the PKM (personal knowledge management) process it is interesting to note the strong affinity it has with curation.

"The critical part of PKM is in personalizing information and experience, or to use a business term, adding value.

Ross Dawson shows five ways to add value to information (my examples/descriptions follow):

1) Filtering (separating signal from noise, based on some criteria)

2) Validation (ensuring that information is reliable, current or supported by research)

3) Synthesis (describing patterns, trends or flows in large amounts of information)

4) Presentation (making information understandable through visualization or logical presentation)

5) Customization (describing information in context)."

More info and examples presented in the article do not seem to include yet the appearance of a trusted news curator as a means to develop such PKM, which although is defined as "an individually created process", it could rely in the near future not just on tools, but also on the filtering and curation work of other humans.

Or not?

Thoughtful. 8/10.
