I have been asked this question for a few years now...I am on Linked IN, but how do I leverage it to grow my business.  I thought there were some good ideas in this chart.  Each of these ideas is a "door opener" to reach out to one of contacts.  

 

My one caveat is the assumption you know all the contacts in your network in some capacity.  By the way, I subscribe to having people in your network that you can identify with in some capacity.  There is a bunch of debate on this topic, but I always look at one key factor: Would this person respond to me if I sent them an email, gave them a call, etc.?  If not....then they are just a name in your contact list...much like the stack of business cards you may have hidden in your desk.
