5 Reasons Pinterest’s Search Engine Is Better Than Google’s

5 Reasons Pinterest’s Search Engine Is Better Than Google’s | Social Media News | Scoop.it

Pinterest is a lifestyle searching tool for millions of people.

People go on there with excited eyes to look for amazing recipes to cook for dinner that weekend, find ways to dress to the tens for a special date, or find creative educational materials to teach children with.

Millions of users turn to Pinterest to enhance their lifestyle. And they are doing so by using the search function on Pinterest. Here’s a fun fact.

Did you know that Google has a search engine just for recipes? It’s been around for years, but almost nobody I know uses it.

Instead, most people I know automatically go to Pinterest if they want to find recipes to try out.

That’s not the only reason Pinterest is better than Google.

Here are 5 reasons why Pinterest’s search engine is better than Google.

I have multiple boards but one of my favorites is my artists "pincase" board .. whre i invited people to share their art.  It's been a little hard keeping product marketers off the page and i have had to delete a few pins of jewelry and clothes .. etc... BUt when you do get to the art there is some amazing pins..  I also have to keep up and invite all the people who follow board..

LinkedIn Brings Endorsements to Mobile

LinkedIn Brings Endorsements to Mobile | Social Media News | Scoop.it
With today's update, LinkedIn members can now view their top skill endorsements on their mobile profile, as well as accept and grant endorsements from and for other members.

Via Mike Allton
Randy Hilarski's insight:

Do you use endorsements? I do but have not quite seen the value in it yet.

Mike Allton's curator insight, September 5, 2013 11:06 AM

Are LinkedIn Endorsements Spam?

LinkedIn Endorsements are not going away any time soon. While many have criticized LinkedIn and complained about the crowdsourced social signals, LinkedIn has forged ahead and has now added Skills & Expertise support to their mobile app, allowing us to view, approve and submit skill endorsements from anywhere.

But are they really as bad as people say?

No one has ever tried to endorse me for a skill that was inappropriate or even inaccurate. And whenever LinkedIn has recommended that I endorse one of my connections for a skill, they've always appeared to make sense.

And I can honestly report that I have received positive feedback from potential clients and connections who viewed my profile, saw my Skills & Expertise and endorsements, and commented that they were impressed. While I would never hire or expect to be hired on the basis of these endorsements, they seem to provide some value, and no harm.

And there's always the Secret benefit to LinkedIn Endorsements that I've written about before and mention in the article.

So what about you? Do you accept and give out endorsements? Do you think they add any value at all to your profile? If not, what about them is detracting from your professional LinkedIn image?

Thanks for your comments!

Buffer Adds Google Plus Page Support

Buffer Adds Google Plus Page Support | Social Media News | Scoop.it

Schedule Shares to Google+ Pages

The social media scheduling tool +Buffer has issued a huge update today. Buffer users can now connect one or more of their Google+ Pages, and begin setting up a schedule of queued posts to be shared.

Will this break the Internet?

Ok, maybe it's not that huge, but there are some large ramifications to this update, both positive and negative.

On the positive side, businesses can use Buffer to make sure that they are consistently active on Google+, are regularly sharing great old articles, and that they aren't spamming their network with rapid shares. They can also take advantage of the scheduling capability, research, and their own observations, to ensure that posts are shared at the best possible times.

On the other hand, businesses can use tools like Buffer to completely automate their social media activity and even spam networks.

My opinion is that, like any tool, Buffer should be lauded for the positive capabilities it brings. Those that choose to abuse use it the wrong way are simply failing to understand not only how social media users expect business to act, but also that they may be permanently tarnishing their reputation.

What do you think? Do you use Buffer or similar tools? Are you excited about the new support for Google+ Pages, or do you think that developments like this are only working to destroy genuineness of social networks?

Thanks for your comments and shares!

Social Media Case Study: Is Sharing Really Caring?

Social Media Case Study: Is Sharing Really Caring? | Social Media News | Scoop.it
I can’t remember the first time I heard the sentence “Sharing is caring”. It has been used so much in the past few years, that it turned into some sort of blogger’s routine.

Randy Hilarski's insight:

If you build a community of followers people will read your content. My articles about expat living in Panama are read because people are passionate about the subject. If you niche is social media marketing and people just want to fill their streams with content this article makes sense.

Google Plus on the other hand is growing exponentially because it is kick ass! The bandwagon people are coming on board but they share and engage like they are on other networks, the user base tends to be more fickle and prefer real engagement not the supposed social media guru way of post and run.
