Backup Your Social Media Accounts For Free With Backupify

Backup Your Social Media Accounts For Free With Backupify | Social Media (network, technology, blog, community, virtual reality, etc...) | Scoop.it

Imagine one fine day Facebook or Twitter suspends your account. You apply for reactivation and then wait until the account is restored, but there is a good chance of your account never seeing the light of the day leaving you with no option but to open a fresh account and start all over again.

Social media plays a dominant role in our lives and it is estimated that 22 percent of all time online, or one in every four and half minutes is spent on a social network. Shutting down a Twitter or a Facebook account literally erases one’s online identity along with the data has been shared with friends over the years...

11 Guaranteed Ways to Get Others to Retweet Your Content

11 Guaranteed Ways to Get Others to Retweet Your Content | Social Media (network, technology, blog, community, virtual reality, etc...) | Scoop.it

After creating content -- whether it's a blog post, an ebook, a webinar, or a video -- it's important to promote that content through social media channels.

And when you do promote that content in social media, you cross your fingers that it generates a ton of shares, tweets, and interaction. For the sake of Twitter, if you follow a few simple best practices, more people are likely to retweet and spread the distribution of your content, giving it a much broader reach and a better opportunity to get found by a new audience of prospective customers beyond your direct followers. Marketers should know how to retweet the right way, but it's also critical for them to learn how to get others to retweet their content, too.

11 Tips for Getting People to Retweet Your Content...

The New, New Twitter and What It Means to You and Your Business

The New, New Twitter and What It Means to You and Your Business | Social Media (network, technology, blog, community, virtual reality, etc...) | Scoop.it

The new, new Twitter is upon us and while some of you already have access to it, others will have to wait up to three weeks. I’m not one to write about new features or products as they’re released. But I would like to take some time to review why this version of Twitter is important to you and your business.

Twitter has undergone nothing short of a complete redesign…again. The new experience offers a much needed simplification. After all, almost six years following its debut, one of the most common searches for “how do you use…” on Google, is still…Twitter. With over 200 million Tweets soaring across Twitter everyday, the service is now aspiring to become something your father or mother or even your “sister” can easily understand and use...

ThinkUp 1.0: Reclaim your tweets and Facebook posts

ThinkUp 1.0: Reclaim your tweets and Facebook posts | Social Media (network, technology, blog, community, virtual reality, etc...) | Scoop.it

Expert Labs has released version 1.0 of ThinkUp, a program that lets people archive, search, and analyze their activity on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.

And if you ask me, this is a big deal.

ThinkUp, the free, open-source brainchild of programmer and Lifehacker founder Gina Trapani, keeps track of what you've done online. It extracts the data from the walled gardens that house more and more of people's digital lives then replants it in your own garden.

The app isn't simple to install, unfortunately. You need some server administration skills so you can host ThinkUp on your own Web server or run it on an instance of Amazon's EC2 cloud-computing service. (More on that point later.)...

Five Social Media Trends for 2012

Five Social Media Trends for 2012 | Social Media (network, technology, blog, community, virtual reality, etc...) | Scoop.it

It’s that most wonderful time of the year … time to predict the future as we close out the year! I think my 2011 social media predictions were pretty solid, so I’m going to take another stab at it for 2012. Here are the five social media trends I think marketers need to be aware of in the next year as we grow and change along with technology and consumer demand.

Content Marketing

Content curation was so last year. In 2012 we’re going broader; we’ll be talking about a marketing discipline called “Content Marketing.” It’s actually not all that new; in fact, some social media pundits have been talking about it for years. But 2012 is the year content marketing is hits the social media trends list and the mainstream, because content marketing is now a concept that executives can finally sink their teeth into...

The Top Ten Social Media Lessons of 2011

The Top Ten Social Media Lessons of 2011 | Social Media (network, technology, blog, community, virtual reality, etc...) | Scoop.it

As the holiday season prepares to give way to the New Year’s Eve and the end of 2011, the annual influx of year-end lists is about to begin in earnest. Top photos, top news stories, top Kardashian marriages… the lists are on their way. Lest anyone say that social media is any different, here for your consideration, in no particular order, are my Top Social Media Lessons of 2011 – part one today, and part two tomorrow.

Lesson #1: There is a significant amount of social network fatigue.

Google+. Quora. Empire Avenue. Chime.in. Unthink. It seemed in 2011 like there was a new or “hot” social network every month – and watching the social media in-crowd rush to adopt was a sometimes comical diversion. There was certainly an element of “shiny object syndrome” at play in the social media world...

I agree Martin, however we are finding that each of the venues seem to gravitate to somewhat different Demographics and show different response to engagement. A business should spend time with testing and focus on the venues most productive.

Analyzing The New Twitter Redesign And What It Means For Users

Analyzing The New Twitter Redesign And What It Means For Users | Social Media (network, technology, blog, community, virtual reality, etc...) | Scoop.it

The redesign that Twitter has undergone this time around is a marked shift from the past. Up until now, Twitter had stuck to its design elements and at most had tweaked them for better usability. This time though, the changes are significant and going by the number of changes that we see, brands as well as users are in for a big surprise and could radically change the way the micro-blogging site is used on an everyday basis.

With over 100 million users and the competition heating up, the change was imminent and perhaps arrives at the time when advertisers are warming up to the idea of advertising on Twitter. The site has grown 25% since October and has in fact become a featured application on both the iPad and the iPhone...

How to Network Successfully

How to Network Successfully | Social Media (network, technology, blog, community, virtual reality, etc...) | Scoop.it

Networking is a huge component of being a successful entrepreneur. When you’re working alone or you’re a small business owner, you don’t get to enjoy working with a lot of colleagues. You have to put yourself out there in order to find more people to work with and work for. You may have previously turned down networking events such as conferences, happy hours, and trade shows, but you’re missing out on valuable contacts. Maybe you’re afraid you’ll fail, but networking is a lot easier than you may think. Here are a few tips on networking successfully:

Don’t Try to Go to Everything

One of the best things to keep in mind when you’re networking is not to stretch yourself too thin. There’s literally an event going on everyday, and you simply don’t need to go to them all...

Social Media Analytics: Three lessons for success

Social Media Analytics: Three lessons for success | Social Media (network, technology, blog, community, virtual reality, etc...) | Scoop.it

Last week I had the opportunity to present my views on social media analytics at Business Insider’s Social Media Analytics conference (you can view the slides from my presentation here). The lessons I presented were based on my own experience, both based on my work at SAP but also on discussions with my peers in the industry. They were centered around the following three key takeaways:

1. Differentiate, but be consistent

Although this sounds like an oxymoron, defining a consistent social media analytics framework can help create a common vocabulary and allow you to learn by being able to consistently compare across your various campaigns. There are three key dimensions as shown on the chart above...
