Search engine optimization has not been dependent on a minimal number of factors for a long time now, such as number of times a keyword appeared on a page, and it continues to become a more complex web of on and off-page factors every month. One of the more recent factors that has had an impact on search ranking is social media. This infographic breaks down ways that social media influences the visibility of your website in search results, including: Social media can help search engines find and index your content faster Likes, shares, retweets, etc. indicates to search engine that content is new and interesting, often leading to a temporary increase in rankingsYour content will increase in search results for people connected to youIncreases domain authority and the number of inbound links to your website Via Lauren Moss

Venkatesh - if I am able I give my site as much media support as I can. As a social media trainer I need to 'try out' media before I can teach others to use it and give an insight into which is useful and which is not. So I tend to put my site and what I am doing out on the various social media platforms at least twice a day - I don't over emphasise my site because that can be counter productive (people switch off if all they see from you is self-promotion) and so it is keeping your presence alive but not switching off potential clients by constant ME, ME, ME. I perform both SEO services and social media training for others (see - just a bit of self promotion LOL)

Jayne, Thanks, but to be truthful, my comment wasn't addressed at anyone specific! I was just trying to get all readers (of my comment) to reflect on the extent to which they (positively) use social media to support their site. I am very interested in feedback in this issue, because I have been dithering about launching my site for a long time now.

Want to rank better in Google? If you’re an individual, you could build your own site and hope it does well. But you might have more success by creating a page for yourself on a social media site like LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter.

I hope this works better for you than it does for me, but then you're probably not sharing your name with a former world champion tennis player, Converse's best selling shoe and a character from American Dad! Go get 'em!

A great post about various subject as: SEO, Content Management, Conversions and a lot more. Very interesting. [note Martin Gysler]
I was clearly under-prepared for the amazing responses. In order to tackle such a magnitude of great questions, I'm giving myself some rules for replies. If I don't have a good answer, I won't tackle the question. For example, Nathaniel Deal asked a good one on .NET viewstates impacting SEO, and while I'd love to reply, I don't know enough about them to provide solid suggestions. No answer can be longer than two paragraphs (plus maybe an explanatory image/graphic). Everyone who asked a great question gets their tweet embedded in this post (using Twitter's nice, new embed functionality), which also gives a spiffy followed link to their tweet. Where possible, I'll provide links to content for more detail so those who are particularly interested can follow up.Let's get started!

HI Martin.
Thanks for sharing. I really like the new Twitter embed feature. Unfortunately, I must note that it does not work well for text-to-speech because It constantly repeats the original tweet. Tiny flaw. More importantly, there is some great wisdom in this articles.
