A massive survey of internet users reveals trends in social media usage across numerous platforms, ages, races, genders, population density and which social media sites do they frequently visit.
The Pew Research Center has released the results of a comprehensive social media survey, conducted over several years to evaluate which demographics were using social media, and on which platforms. Which social networking sites emerged on top?
Of the online adults surveyed at the end of 2012: 67% use Facebook 20% use LinkedIn 16% use Twitter 15% use Pinterest 13% use Instagram 6% use Tumblr
A decent amount of Americans appear to be using social media, but which demographics use social media in greater numbers?
It appears that women use social media 9% more than men do, at a whopping rate of 71%. Other frontrunners with the highest social network activity in their demographic include city dwellers(70%), Hispanics (72%) and adults with a household income below $30,000 annually (72%).
The most pervasive and consistent divider amongst social media users remains, unsurprisingly, their age. 83% of the young adult demographic (18-29 year olds) use social media, which is well over double the activity of online adults over 65 years old (32%). L'elenco aggiornato dei 100 siti più importanti, da conoscere ed utilizzare. la lista è aggirnata rispetto allal ista originale del 2007 di td.om
Le differenze sono tante, ma più che andare a verificare la permanenza del singolo sito (6 anni sono davvero tanti per “rimanere” sempre ontop) è interessante notare altre differenze. Ad esempio le categorie, tra il 2007 ed il 2013 sono diverse le categorie identificate come rappresentanti dei 100 siti più importanti. Segno del diverso utilizzo della rete. Ad esempio la categorie “SCIENCE + TECHNOLOGY” nel 2007 non era censita. Altra differenza l’incidenza dei “blog” sulla lista del 2013 rispetto al 2007. Delete the scoop?

Il libro del designer John Maeda nel suo libro "le leggi della semplicità" non solo ci offre un utile guida per gestire la complessità ma anche un ottiimo spunto per riflettere sulla complessità del nostro mondo.
Cominciamo subito a dire che il mondo non è complesso, la complessità non è una caratteristica del mondo o di qualsiasi altro elemento. La complessità non è assoluta ma è un elemento nella relazione tra noi ed il mondo. Già da questa semplice, e banale definizione, c’è la chiave per “risolvere” l’annosa questione: “noi”. Noi siamo parte attiva nella relazione con il mondo e come tale possiamo intervenire, modificare la relazione per renderla da complessa a semplice. Prima di vedere il pensiero di John Maeda, due parole su di lui. Chi è John Maeda? per quei pochi che non lo conoscono si tratta di uno dei più famosi designer mondiali lavora sul confine stimolante dove si intersecano tecnologia e designer. Prima cosa, questo libro non è un noioso saggio filosofico sul concetto della semplicità, ma più una guida fatta di 10 regole e consigli pratici per rendere semplice quello che ad una prima vista non lo sembrano. La lettura è breve (137 pg) è molto scorrevole, come dice l’autore stesso una lettura da fare in un viaggio aereo. Il libro parte da una vista da designer che si pone come primo obiettivo quello di rendere semplice ed utilizzabile qualsiasi dispositivo che invece è tecnolgicamente complesso, ma la sua esperienza può essere adottata in qualsiasi altro ambito: professionale e personale.
