Psychology of Travel Spending

Psychology of Travel Spending | ZipMinis: Science of Blogging | Scoop.it
As a traveller, you will be exposed to scams, unfair pricing, and people living in extreme poverty. These financial truths affect you mentally and emotionally. This is my three (3) point strategy for promoting inner peace and maximizing travel benefits.

Let’s first imagine a few scenarios. Have you ever taken a cab from the airport and discovered you overpaid for your transport, or purchased an item in a market and later wondered if your negotiation was adequate? Have you experienced emotional discomfort after refusing to give money to a street child, or paid a substantially higher price for a handicraft because you knew the proceeds would benefit the under-privileged or disabled?

The way you spend your money during travel will have certain undeniable affects on your emotions and thoughts. While there is strong evidence to suggest that travel influences life in powerfully positive ways, I believe that it is critical to synthesize a variety of Stressful Experiences Associated with Travel to actualize these benefits.

In the following sections we will examine psychological phenomenon, and derive practical steps to help nurture a healthy traveler’s mind and maximize how much travels benefit your life.

Do this, or get left behind — it’s the directive of eBusiness in the era of Facebook and Twitter.
As businesses catch on to the fact that social is not a trend but a way of doing business, Gigya is looking to help them navigate this “socialization” and what it means for their business. According to an infographic from Statista, the leading German Internet statistics company, there are almost 120 million smartphone users in the U.S. right now, and about half as many tablet users. By 2014, those numbers are expected to grow to over 150 million and almost 90 million, respectively.

Steve Jobs Did Acid 10-15 Times And Smoked Pot Every Week For 5 Years

Steve Jobs Did Acid 10-15 Times And Smoked Pot Every Week For 5 Years | ZipMinis: Science of Blogging | Scoop.it
Steve Jobs was fond of saying everyone should do acid at least once, but apparently the late Apple co-founder did it much more frequently than that.
Jobs did LSD 10-15 times between 1972 to 1974, when he claimed to have stopped using it for good, according to a questionnaire he filled out in the 1988 for security clearance from the government, which was released to Wired through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Linkedin Blog » An Update On Taking Steps To Protect Our Members

Linkedin Blog » An Update On Taking Steps To Protect Our Members | ZipMinis: Science of Blogging | Scoop.it

By now, many of you have read recent headlines reporting that 6.5 million LinkedIn hashed passwords were stolen and published on an unauthorized website. We take this criminal activity very seriously so we are working closely with the FBI as they aggressively pursue the perpetrators of this crime. As you may have heard, there have been reports of other websites that have suffered similar thefts. We want to be as transparent as possible while at the same time preserving the security of our members without jeopardizing the ongoing investigation. In this post, we want to address questions we’ve been receiving and share what we’ve learned so far about the incident, how we’ve responded, and what we’re doing to protect our members going forward.

First, it’s important to know that compromised passwords were not published with corresponding email logins. At the time they were initially published, the vast majority of those passwords remained hashed, i.e. encoded, but unfortunately a subset of the passwords was decoded. Again, we are not aware of any member information being published at any time in connection with the list of stolen passwords. The only information published was the passwords themselves.

Apple Is Going To Put A Double-Hurting On Google In A Week | ZipMinis: Science of Blogging | Scoop.it
Apple is going to deliver a double whammy to Google next week at WWDC, its huge developer conference.
First, it's going to kick Google Maps off iOS, taking away one potential revenue and data stream for Google.
Second, it's going to integrate Facebook into iOS.
So, in one fell swoop, it's going to wipe Google from the home screen of the phone, and bring in Google's biggest enemy.

This Time-Lapse Video Of Venus Crossing The Sun Says More Than All The Pictures In The World | ZipMinis: Science of Blogging | Scoop.it
The once-in-a-lifetime chance to watch Venus pass in front of the sun is over in the United States. The spectacle won't happen again for another 105 years.
NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, a spacecraft launched in 2010 to study the sun, was on deck to capture the rare phenomenon in stunning high-resolution.
You can also download ultra-high definition images here.
The 7-hour journey has been whittled down to about three minutes of video and images, stitched together from "several wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light and a portion of the visible spectrum," NASA says.

TechCrunch | Twitter, Yelp Board Member Peter Fenton On How Enterprise Is Learning From The Consumer Web

TechCrunch | Twitter, Yelp Board Member Peter Fenton On How Enterprise Is Learning From The Consumer Web | ZipMinis: Science of Blogging | Scoop.it
Peter Fenton joined Benchmark Capital in 2006, after spending seven years as a partner at Accel. Not yet 40, Fenton already sits on the board of directors at companies like New Relic, Polyvore, Twitter, Yelp, and Zendesk. Starting at Accel in his late twenties, the young investor focused his attention on the enterprise — on backing smart software and infrastructure companies. In 2009, for example, the young VC helped lead SpringSource’s $400 million+ sale to VMWare.
Yet, Fenton saw promise in startups like Twitter, investing in the microblogging service back when it employed just 25 people — and got in early on Yelp, too. Becoming actively involved in consumer web companies, Fenton came to recognize a marked difference between how these startups approached their users (and their market) and how enterprise players were doing business. Today, he tells us, a sea change has come to enterprise, which is being driven not only by a fundamental transformation of company culture but by new generation of users — namely those pesky, plucky Millennials.

Andy Rubin does know how to use Twitter after all.
Rubin, Google's senior VP of mobile, took to Twitter Sunday night to shoot down a rumor started by Robert Scoble that he was planning to leave Google to join the startup CloudCar.
Rubin also took the opportunity to tout just how successful Android products have been, all in a single 140 character tweet. Not bad for a guy who has only tweeted three other times this year.

Skeleton key: Diverse complex networks have similar skeletons

Skeleton key: Diverse complex networks have similar skeletons | ZipMinis: Science of Blogging | Scoop.it

Northwestern University researchers are the first to discover that very different complex networks -- ranging from global air traffic to neural networks -- share very similar backbones. By stripping each network down to its essential nodes and links, they found each network possesses a skeleton and these skeletons share common features, much like vertebrates do.

Mammals have evolved to look very different despite a common underlying structure (think of a human being and a bat), and now it appears real-world complex networks evolve in a similar way.
The researchers studied a variety of biological, technological and social networks and found that all these networks have evolved according to basic growth mechanisms. The findings could be particularly useful in understanding how something -- a disease, a rumor or information -- spreads across a network.
