Mines the disproportionate number of female workers who feel the type of intense stress that can lead to burnout.

Notes that powerful women, despite the appearance calm control, many times are seriously suffering from stress.

A new survey by the American Psychological Association (APA) reports that women bear a more intense degree of stress than their male colleagues. 1,500 women were surveyed, and:

1/2 felt they were not appreciated
1/2 believed they were not paid enough
1/3 experienced intense and ongoing stress from work
In a separate 9 year study by the Journal of Women's Health, researchers found that women felt dual stress from their important roles both at work and home. The result is a major segment of middle-aged women who burnout.

Top 7 Random Topic Generator for Blog Sites

Top 7 Random Topic Generator for Blog Sites | Social Media, Memetics, and Cognitve Science | Scoop.it
Random topic generators for blog sites when you have writer's block.
Darin L. Hammond's insight:

I sat my butt in the chair to think of a blog topic.
This is one of many rituals I use before I write. I sit down and get comfortable in my cozy office chair. Usually rituals are helpful psychological cues to shift your brain into the writing mode, and I recommend them.

My strangest ritual is eating giant, purple grapes, nice and cold from the fridge before writing. And carrots.

Today, despite my rituals, I sat down cold, with no ideas for writing.

I have a billion strategies for targeting a topic, but sometimes nothing works. My rituals fail me.

Job Search Simplified: Employma Disrupts the Industry
Darin L. Hammond's insight:

Have you been on a job hunt lately? The pain is like getting one root canal after another.

I searched for a job 2 years ago after deciding on a career change. I enjoyed my time teaching English at universities, but I needed relief from the paper-grading load.

My true love was writing, and I thought that my background in teaching would make a smooth transition into a writing career.
However, I found a glut of job-search data and data entry that made paper-grading seem easy. I banged my head on the desk after completing an application, once an hour.

Nietzsche quotes that help find a unique writing voice.

Finding your unique, individual writing voice through Niet
Darin L. Hammond's insight:

Nietzsche declared "God is dead."
He was referring to the modern trend toward agnosticism and atheism, and he frames God as a story.

That God was dead was shocking enough, but that we killed him, took Nietzsche to a heightened individual voice. He was bold and went against the grain.

All Gods are stories told by humans to explain existence, and most gods we have created are dead. Think of the Greek and Roman Gods, crushed by Christianity.

Nietzsche claims that modern life has eliminated the need for god, but he asks what will replace him. In other words, if you don't believe in God, where is your moral foundation? If you don't believe in God, how do you tell the story of existence in a powerful way that rings true?

Nietzsche values the individual who must always fight to keep from becoming a drone, one of the mindless masses. Tribes always threaten to strangle individuality, and resisting the majority is difficult. With and without god, people must fight for their individuality.

Darin L. Hammond's insight:

Takeaways:
Infant humans are geniuses at least until the age of eight, with the greatest learning power in the known universe.
Typically, parents view children as less capable, intelligent, and valued than adults.
Adding the word "mentor" to the vocabulary of early childhood learning, with the same importance as the word "parent," might help us to remember.
Raising a child as if he or she were a respected and loved adult will empower youth to embrace their roles as mature and responsible citizens.
