Take a look at how social media has influenced campaigns in today's must-reads.

8 Big Social Media Takeaways from the 2012 Election Campaign
By Alex Kantrowitz While face-to-face engagement is still the bread and butter of electoral politics, social media does have an important role to play in national campaigns. In fact, a good social media effort should not only help a candidate’s messaging efforts, but their ground game as well. It is with that point that this set of social media takeaways from the 2012 election begins.

HootSuite Counts Down to Election Day with Launch of Dedicated Command Center
By Devon Glenn The debates are over, but the presidential elections are just getting started. Social media monitoring service HootSuite has set up a command center for the 2012 presidential elections that tracks the activities of both candidates, the company announced today. The 2012 Election Tracker gives viewers minute-to-minute updates on voter sentiment on Facebook and Twitter as the election unfolds.

7 Social Tools to Share Your Election Day Experiences

By Heather Whaling Social media has changed how candidates campaign, how networks cover elections, how voters receive news and how organizers canvass neighborhoods to get out the vote. But, as we all anxiously await the results, social media will also change how individuals convey their Election Day experiences.

9 Concrete, Specific Things We Actually Know About How Social Media Shape Elections
By Robinson Meyer Opinions about the Internet’s potential effects on politics range from the thoughtlessly utopian to the haughtily dour. We don’t often get a reality check. Why Content Marketing is the New SEO

Why Content Marketing is the New SEO | Social Media Marketing & Web-Marketing | Scoop.it

SEO isn’t the same as what it used to be. You can’t just popup an ugly website, throw up mediocre content, and build a few links and expect to rank well. These days you actually have to build a good website, write high quality content that solves peoples’ problems, build thousands of links, and get thousands of social shares.

Building thousands of high quality links manually is really expensive and even if you have the money, it will take months if not years to build those links. And if you don’t have anything worth sharing on the social web, you won’t get social shares unless you buy them from spammy accounts.

Social Signals, Quality Content And Search Marketing will Merge in 2013

Social Signals, Quality Content And Search Marketing will Merge in 2013 | Social Media Marketing & Web-Marketing | Scoop.it

"In May, 2010, Matt Cutts denied that social signals had an effect on search rankings. In December of the same year, he declared that they were actually starting to work in the buzz and signals they were able to get through social media into the site authority factor of their ranking algorithm. Six months later, Google+ was born.

The Penguin Update and subsequent tweaks to it have changed the way that search engine marketers approach aggressive optimization. The days of running rampant and blasting out bulk links are gone. Today, quality finally trumps quantity and the playing field has been leveled in a way that in essence puts a "governor" on how quickly they can ramp up the rankings on their domains.

As social signals grow in their effects on search rankings for both Google and Bing, the ability to create amazing content and promote it on social media is quickly becoming the most important technique that internet marketers have in their arsenal. In 2013, it will likely eclipse link-building as a ranking factor.

Here are three things you must understand to make it work for you today and to be ready for what lies ahead".
