In Quality Raters' Handbook, Google Adds Higher Standards For "Your Money Or Your Life" Websites | Social Media Marketing Tools | Scoop.it

Google’s continuing push toward identifying expertise and authority on the web takes another step in the form of a new type of website/landing page classification: “Your Money or Your Life.”

It’s explained in detail in a new version of Google’s “Search Quality Ratings Guidelines” — the document that’s used by the company’s cadre of human Search Quality Raters. Version 4.2 (dated June 7, 2013) of that private document recently leaked online via a private SEO community and a Search Engine Land reader shared it with us. A Google spokesperson has confirmed for us that the document is legitimate.

Down With Toolbar PageRank And Up With... What?

Down With Toolbar PageRank And Up With... What? | Social Media Marketing Tools | Scoop.it

I’ve never been a big fan of Google’s Toolbar PageRank (TBPR) because, as you may know, it’s a metric that isn’t updated very often. It’s also been thrown around too much as a metric that gauges quality — and I’ve been doing this long enough to know that many lower-TBPR sites/pages (and new sites with no TBPR) can be incredibly beneficial for sending you traffic that converts.

Relying on TBPR to determine suitable link partners eliminates loads of good stuff. Let’s say that there’s a great new post that’s unranked, and it would be a perfect fit for your site, but since it has no TBPR yet, you just move on. That post could get tweeted 10k times, and if you’d had a link there, you could have potentially gotten 50 new customers.

New Facebook Algorithm Will Change News Feed

New Facebook Algorithm Will Change News Feed | Social Media Marketing Tools | Scoop.it

Over the next few weeks Facebook is planning on rolling out a few new updates to their news feed.

The social media giant is changing the algorithm that determines what stories appear at the top of a user’s news feed. To a normal user, this might be irrelevant, but to a marketer, this is an important change that could determine the best way to post on Facebook.

The idea of a Facebook news feed is to deliver content to a user that is both relevant and important to them.

But this is no easy task.

Bing and Facebook Search and Ads

Bing and Facebook Search and Ads | Social Media Marketing Tools | Scoop.it

It’s been a big week at Facebook. Hashtags rolled out to most users causing quite a stir in the marketing world. (It’s yet to be seen how much utility they actually bring to the everyday user.)

And, Graph Search finally got turned on for my account. Graph Search is the long-awaited jump by Facebook into the world of search engines powered by Microsoft’s Bing. The official announcement came several months ago but roll out has been slow.
