Common complaints about Google+ were founded during their rocky debut as a new social media platform. Starting out as invitation only put them right in line with the unveiling of other social greats, like Facebook, but only Google-oriented people were in the know, turning Google+ into a more socially oriented version of Reddit. However, the interest began to fade around the same time Google+ became available throughout the world. At that point, brand new users were overwhelmed by a suggestion of random International users and geek-oriented topics resulting in a big, “No Thanks!”

Unfortunately, that impression of Google+ stuck. Despite all the perks, people stay away, and, honestly, those who really “get” Google are all the happier that no one else does.

This is a tiny tweak -- the functionality has not changed. The usage, however, likely will.

 

For instance, if you used Favorite to bookmark content, you may not be comfortable using Like for same. "Favorite" is certainly not totally "value-neutral," but "Like" does have a different and deeper connotation -- I mean, it's a HEART. Twitter itself is promoting this as a way to show "how you feel," not just what you're interested in. And, of course, copying Facebook, again? Ugh.

So I can say from personal experience, I usually find that my previous day's tweets are loaded w/Favorite stars by the time of my morning login. I realize that's because I curate and share a lot of USEFUL REFERENCE CONTENT, not because I'm incredibly popular and LIKE-able. This morning, hearts? Not so many. Again, usage is sure to change. A good example lies within this post: What will journalists do?
