Steph Alexandra's curator insight, August 26, 2014 12:17 AM

This is a great little video clip. It talks about the importance of personal branding when creating your public identity. Within the content there are references made to creating a personal webpage, which may or may not be necessary. But the important factor is that the general points being made refer to those that I am drawing upon in my Prezi tutorial for Online Identity.

Q: Do Questions Work on Facebook? A: YES [Infographic] | Social Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
Do you feel like nobody is listening on Facebook? Read the stats that show how making a simple change to your phrasing can get you more engagement.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Of course questions work on Facebook because it is a conversational medium. People want to give as good as they get. This is why Facebook ROI has been hard to create.

How to you ROI a great conversation with a friend? I had several great convrersations last week. I didn't walk out of my lunch with Phil Buckley (@1918) and Mark Traphagen (@MarkTraphagen) thinking what did I MAKE (I paid for lunch :).

I came away from that magical lunch thinking about how stuffed I was, how much I learned and how much I appreciate the friendship of these two smart, creative Internet marketers. Of course questions work on Facebook and there is ROI in there, all kinds of ROI we will come to understand when we realize our real jobs are those lunches :).

Kelly Hungerford's curator insight, December 11, 2012 3:20 PM

I saw this tweet today from Marty and laughed. He's got such a great sense of humor. I highly doubt that his blog isn't ready for 2013. From what I enjoy from his blogs, he is the master of content and keeping readers loyal, so my guess is that he's got it all under control.

But in any case, we hope to see him and anyone who wants to exchange ideas, tips and best practices as well as share in some festive seasonal fun!

Paper.li joined forces with Mack Collier's #blogchat for the month of December and we've been having a blast. It's an early wake-up call for Switzerland - 3am, but it's well worth it! Join us and check it out!

If you are not remarketing you should be because it works. Ever notice after you visit a website you start seeing it everywhere? That is remarketing.

Remarketing plants a cookie and then presents your banner ad on websites within the remarketing network. This kind of relevant repetition is powerful for B2C and B2B marketing.

This post explains how to use analytics to support your remarketing efforts.

Cure for Social Media Marketing Fear? More Fear

Cure for Social Media Marketing Fear? More Fear | Social Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
Launching a social media marketing endeavor can seem overwhelming - especially for small business owners. But it's easier than you think.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

I do and don't like the utter simplicity of this article. I like it because fearing Social Media Marketing is to fear your future, motherhood, America and apple pie. I say that realizing saying that makes thos with this irrational fear that much more fearful.

I don't like the utter simplicity because it flattens the context. Social media, like any conversation these globally connected days, is live ammunition. You hand live ammuniton with a deference missing here because they are going for fear removal.

Here is how my much more brutal honesty would explain. Your must get comfortable with handling the live ammunition that is social media marketing because the greater risk is NOT to play.

That said, HOW is easier than you think. Be yourself. Talk openly and honestly about things that interest you and your company. Be generous and honest and the web is your friend. Be manipulative or deceitful and the web will pull your teeth (lol).

Learn to safely play with these bullets because to NOT do so kills you sure as shooting. Scared now? Welcome to ouru post Moore's Law crazy up is down, amateurs are pros world. Best Internet marketing advice I never fully learned? Stay Calm, Carry On.

The Social Business Shift- Learning To Dance With Customers [Infographic] | Social Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
What’s a social business all about? Is it about having your brand on Twitter or Facebook? Is it about private social networks? Certainly, these all play a part.

Via janlgordon, John van den Brink, donhornsby
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

I love the phrase "social business" because it puts the emphasis where it belongs, on business. Social Media Marketing sounds like you are marketing the media NOT the business.

Social business is more than Twitter and Facebook; it is about opening a company's doors, to reducing the wall between THEM (customers) and US (marketers). Here are a few ways social business is different:

* Listening.

* Incorporating what you hear into everything.

* Alignment between marketing speak and customers.

* Learning from customers.

* Teaching customers via knowledge transfer.

* Content, Content and Content.

* Being open, honest and authentic.

5 Insider Tips for a Better Social Media Strategy

5 Insider Tips for a Better Social Media Strategy | Social Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it
Social media analytics can be a boon for businesses that use it wisely. Two founders of social data start-ups explain what they've learned so far.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

I liked this Inc. article because it introduced new concepts such as Twitter is better for viral content than Facebook (certainly true to my experience). Here are the 5 "Insider Tips":

1. Viral content on Twitter lasts longer than on Facebook.

2. LinkedIn is emerging as a content distribution platform.

    3. Don’t ignore your search strategy.

      4. The worth of an individual "like" is not a good measure.

        5. Social data is only one piece of the puzzle.

I like the discussion around LIKES and SHARES. HOW you get a LIKE or a SHARE is at least as important as getting them. That advice should kill the search for LIKES and Shares independent of contribution to the bottom line.

Likes and shares received for relevant "on point" content contribute. Likes received for the mere sake of gaining likes contribute little. Everything is connected to everything else, so don't get caught chasing your social tail, or going after the wrong things i the wrong ways.

Re-purpose Content To Create Maximum Social Media Impact [Infographic]

Re-purpose Content To Create Maximum Social Media Impact [Infographic] | Social Marketing Revolution | Scoop.it

How to re-purpose content for maximum Social Media impact

        Marty Note
Couple of things to consider when you repurpose content include:

        * Don't lift lock stock and barrel since to do so is a duplication.

        * Blend content when lifting from one area to another.

        * Be careful of this rule even between different platforms.

        * If you curate content from others include a ref.

        * If you curate content from others put in block quotes.

        * Make sure to edit meta data to be accurate to ne combination.

I agree so much with this idea I'm working on a social cms called SpinSnip. Good ideas just be careful. When Google senses a duplication of content it lowers the PageRank of both copied and copier. If your page was a PR6 before it could become a PR3 in an instant due to dupe penalties.
