Facebook is not manipulating news feeds says Facebook - Leaders West

Facebook is not manipulating news feeds says Facebook - Leaders West | Social Media Marketing for Small Biz | Scoop.it

There was a time when MySpace was in the situation Facebook is now facing.

The big question on a lot of people’s lips has been: “Has Facebook tweaked EdgeRank to force me to pay to promote my content?”

In his article, Jim Dougherty makes very valid points regarding the fallacy a lot of us have been led to believe:

“The mythology that brand pages will be a efficient marketing platform or customer service vehicle for the discount price of elbow grease and moxy is false. The preponderance of evidence of Facebook’s inefficiency is overwhelming, capped by Facebook’s backhanded admission on their blog.”

LinkedIn Generates $1.30 Per User Per Hour; 21 Times More Than Facebook

LinkedIn Generates $1.30 Per User Per Hour; 21 Times More Than Facebook | Social Media Marketing for Small Biz | Scoop.it

We’ve seen how valuable LinkedIn is to professionals for developing connections and furthering their business, but you probably didn’t realise just how valuable you are to the professional social networking site, and just how well it’s doing because of this.

Forbes’ cover story on how LinkedIn became the business it is now is well worth a read, but what really stands out is just how successful it has become because of this. After taking ComScore’s Web-usage data and public financial filings, Forbes’ George Anders calculated that for every hour that each user spends on the site: LinkedIn generates $1.30 while Facebook, with over 900 million members and counting, only generates $0.06, roughly 21 times less than LinkedIn.

Facebook's Advice to Marketers: Post Stuff About Your Brand

Facebook's Advice to Marketers: Post Stuff About Your Brand | Social Media Marketing for Small Biz | Scoop.it
It’s no secret that Facebook has decided the best way to spur more advertising on the platform is to encourage marketers to use their brand Pages more effectively.

With that goal in mind, Facebook looked at postings on 23 brand Pages over one month to see which posts did the best. The upshot: When you talk about things related to your brand, you’ll get more engagement.

For example, a post by a cruise line marketer (Facebook did not disclose which brands exactly were involved in the study) stating “I decided to go on my first cruise because ____,” performed better than one that said, “Hang in there everybody. Monday will be over before we know it.”

“Topics related to brand or about the brand were significant predictors of increased engagement,” says Sean Bruich, head of measurement at Facebook. “When pages post about topics related to brands, they increase engagement.”
