More and more I think the only way to manage the NOWness of Internet marketing is with a real time setup like this.

Put your favorite searhes on one screen, your Online Reputation Management on another and competition on the third then rinse and repeat until you can't miss anything and before you know it the wall if full of monitors (sort of like the Network Operations Center at Atlantic BT will take a picture of that soon).

The Missing Tip
These are great tips I agree with, but they are missing one BIG TIP - Gamify. Social media lends itself to gamification beautifully. When you are playing a game you look forward to notices on progress and new happenings.

When playing a game you watch the leaderboard like a golf pro leading on Sunday. The big missing tips among these excellent tips is to GAMIFY. Gamify doesn't have to be complicated.

LinkedIn gamified when they let us know our profiles are only 90% done. That simple statement made all the Type As on LI want to attain 100% profiles. 100% of WHAT exactly (lol).

See what you can gamify and make it easy to play.

Beyond The Stats
This is a great Blogging For Brands Infographic, but there is more to why brands must blog than stats. We live in a connected age when anyone can get to know anything.

Blogs create a sense of VOICE. They have a tone and a rhythm that communicates mountains of information about what a brand is really about. Blogs help supply the brand advocates any company depends on with social ammunition and fodder for their own blogs.

Blogs also react to what is happening NOW. If there is a national story an active blog is a great place to share your take. If there is a ripple in your brand's fabric a blog is a great place to iron out the wrinkle.

This is not to say that blogs are defensive. Blogs imply a promise - we will share on a regular basis and you (our brand advocates) can comment, participate and inform our efforts. Blogs say you are in this WITH US (visitors and brand advocates).

The collaborative idea of a blog can help a brand match its walk and talk, create a distinct tone and become a hub for all social marketing. Blogs are a must for brands and for many more reasons that captured in this excellent infographic.

People love to hear from people directly, not companies.  Trust can be built up faster for brands through the people, not corporate advertising.

Save The World Marketing Is Here!

Embrace Save The World Marketing
In a social mobile and connected time for profit companies should learn emotional storytelling from nonprofits. Nonprofits should learn viral marketing and SEO from their for profit cousins.

Save The World Marketing is a "new altruism" that is sweeping across social media. Companies and brands that embrace Save The World marketing create an emotional connection with customers via authentic stories and social media.

Every enterprise is saving the world in some interesting way. Telling that story or finding partners who can help tell a company's "save the world" story should be a top priority for senior managers and small to medium sized businesses (SMBs).

Be Careful and Model SMM
A truth we've known for some time revealed, exposed and shameful. Attribution, even before social media marketing, was a difficult. Now, post SMM, it is almost impossible. I will never forget our CFO instructing me to kill our "non converting' keywords in PPC.

I nodded, said sure and then didn't. It was going to be too hard to explain my "tooth" theory (lol). When a system is running and making money online, as ours was, any attempt to do something as dramatic as shut off "non-converting keywords" is sure to introduce a wobble.

Wobbles usually translate into making LESS money, so I nodded and assured him I would and then didn't. I no longer work for this very difficult  employer, but the knee jerk, "Kill it Now" attitude still exists despite its wrecking ball pain and no real benefit.

The bottom line from this extensive study is you must model your social and be generous to attribution all the way along the conversion funnel or you cut off nose to spite face. There are tools such as Argyle Social that can help right this wrong, but most importantly don't let your cost cutting C level kill the Goose laying those golden eggs. Nod and say you will and then DON'T (lol).

TIME is part of Google's algorithm and should be part of your Internet marketing too.

The Explosion of #Pinterest and Why You Should Read This Report

The Explosion of #Pinterest and Why You Should Read This Report | Social Media e Innovación Tecnológica | Scoop.it

This piece was written by Dave Copeland for Readwriteweb. There have been many articles about Pinterest but if you do nothing else, read the white paper by Engauge and report they're referring to. It is absolutely the best one I've seen to date. (more details below)

The most important thing in this piece is the report, here's what you'll see:

A new Engauge white paper breaks down:

**the make-up of the average Pinterest user

**shows that the end result of less reading is more of a focus on content curation than creation.

**The timing of that trend, combined with a stunning design when Internet users are focusing more on visual than text, has allowed Pinterest to explode in popularity.

This is what caught my attention - a quote from a user:

"When I'm looking for new trends on specific topics like fashion or birthday party themes, I now search Pinterest first -- not Google." - Karah Street

Curated by Jan Gordon covering "Content Curation, Social Business and Beyond"

If you're in making Pinterest work for you, you might want to visit my other topic: Pinterest Watch.
