Let me talk about how I go about creating a social media dashboard

 

The basic answer is that I don’t have one tool (I have dozens, if not hundreds.)

 

The real answer is that I am not tracking social media.
I am tracking key performance indicators (KPI)
I don’t care if it is a shipping problem or a viral YouTube video.
I simply want to know how I can track it, manage it, and maximize results.

 

With that said: when I think about creating a social media dashboard or using a platform to track results… I am looking at several unique business identifiers that define what tool I need for the job at hand...

I like Tyler's tip too. We live in a a "Behind The Curtain" time. Everyone wants to peek into how things are done. In fact sometimes I think we need to be more careful about timing. Cinemax puts a "behind the scenes" look at one of my favorite action series (StrikeBack) and it ruins the illusion of the episode I'm about to watch. So LOVE this tip, but don't share too much at the wrong time.

A Strategic plan was the best advice there. Their #1 of having a business plan was awful. Business plans do not keep one focused or on track. They are ficticious estimations. No company has ever stayed on it. Why? Because their business changes as it grows.

Also, investors don't look at them and if BPs were important, why did Apple, Microsoft, Google, Ford, etc. etc. not have them?

Customer Service is not what sets a company apart, it's a Brand Identity that does. CS can be fit into an identity, but not visa versa. Besides, CS is determined by the customer. A company may have good policies in place but the moment it upsets the customer(s) it goes haywire.... look at what happened with Sprint. Known for great customer Service but as soon as they mentioned a $2 fee - kaboom!

The bottom line is this: Look at the source of the article. It's from an employment site. They aren't going to know much about running a business.

There is a reason that http://www.GlobalCEOspace.com has had huge success for decades in pumping out member hits like Chicken Soup for the Soul, 911 Locator Services, #1 Pet Product, #1 Automotive, #1 Educational, Robert Kiyosaki's "Cash Flow", and the lead companies in just about every business category.

Thanks Dave - it's great to have such clarity on issues where there's tons of info but easy to be pulled in all directions.

I have noticed that when the topic of social network is raised, it usually turns to a discussion of Facebook. Granted it is the biggest player on the planet however it is not the only one.

 

Ok, at some point in the discussion it may get to Linkedin, Google Plus and Twitter (which by the way is a microblog not a network but it is so widely used it surfaces regardless of what topic is being discussed). The reality is, although these are the “Big Four”, there are so many to choose from and depending on “your fancy” or strategy you may want to develop a presence at other networks as a starting point.

 

Now that I have planted this seed in your thinking, where do you start? There are so many out there – really. So whatever your passion, go and find your network. If it doesn’t exist, hey create one!
