Guest post: 6 tips for preventing social media burnout | Social Media Marketing Does Not Replace SEO | Scoop.it
Without sounding terribly overdramatic, social media burnout is a real thing - and something we should be watching out for.Whether you’re using social media for work or for pleasure: it’s likely that it takes up a hefty chunk of your day. There is a limit to how much information we can process - and by flooding our brains with photos of our friends’ dinners, lists of celebrities that look like cats, advice to get us thinner doing 'this one thing'...

Vox Pop: Are consumers longing for long-form in marketing?

Vox Pop: Are consumers longing for long-form in marketing? | Social Media Marketing Does Not Replace SEO | Scoop.it
It was recently brought to The Drum’s attention that we are longing for long-form. The age of bite sized media is seeing a resurgence of its comfortable long form component, despite our attention spans shrinking into oblivion with a quick fix of 140 characters.

Facebook Instant Articles, the Guardian’s ‘The Long Read’, Snapchat Discover suggests that people are craving more insight into the things they are interested in rather than just flashes of information. The Drum Network asked its members what they thought about the resurgence of longform, and if they thought it was here to stay....

With Millions Of New Bottle Designs, Every Diet Coke Will Soon Be Unique

With Millions Of New Bottle Designs, Every Diet Coke Will Soon Be Unique | Social Media Marketing Does Not Replace SEO | Scoop.it

Today, you probably know Diet Coke for its silver and red branding—which is more or less how it’s looked since Coca-Cola’s sugar-free alternative first launched in 1982. But starting this month, in a market where diet soda sales are down, Diet Coke is going bespoke, as millions of unique designs are hitting U.S. shelves for the first time as part of a campaign called "It’s Mine."

So for the next several months, no two 12-ounce bottles of Diet Coke will look exactly alike.

"Personalization and customization is a huge trend, obviously," says Rafael Acevedo, group director of Diet Coke in North America. With Coca-Cola’s first major personalization campaign, Share a Coke in 2014, the company put thousands of people’s names onto bottles. The idea was that you’d spot someone’s name and want to buy them a Coke—and it’s an idea that worked, with measurable uptake in both short term sales and longer term brand loyalty. For Diet Coke, that concept got a tweak. "In this case, it’s more personal, "Acevedo says, "to have that sense that Diet Coke is giving you something no one else can have."...

Why People Choose to Shop—or Not to Shop—on Their Phones

Why People Choose to Shop—or Not to Shop—on Their Phones | Social Media Marketing Does Not Replace SEO | Scoop.it

Mobile shopping isn't going anywhere this year.

More than 60 percent of omnichannel shoppers said they plan to start making purchases using mobile devices or will do so even more in the upcoming year, according to a new study released today by Facebook. (Already, 45 percent of all shopping includes some form of mobile interaction including doing research, comparing prices or making purchases. Among millennials, that number jumps to 57 percent.)

Facebook IQ commissioned GfK to study 2,400 adults who had used mobile phones, tablets, desktops or laptops to research or buy items online in the past three months. Purchasing categories included clothing, consumer electronics, home appliances, home goods and beauty.

The study also looked at why those shopping on mobile devices chose to use them. Fifty-six percent said it was because they already happened to be on a device, while 55 percent pointed to the convenience it afforded....

Leila Anzabi's curator insight, February 7, 8:11 PM

45% of all shopping includes some sort of mobile interaction. Among millennials, that number jumps to 57%. People who choose to shop on mobile devices say it is because they happen to already be on their device or because it's just more convenient. However, there are many obstacles mobile shopping faces, including the criticism on their transaction processes and their apps that need improvement. Making it easier to enter payment information, being able to ship to multiple locations, and being able to make transactions without downloading an app would all help reduce these criticisms. The breakdown of stats on a study are quite interesting on what people perfer:

Desktop/laptop vs mobile

56% say its easier to see everything on desktop

55% find it easier to use big devices

27% find it difficult to compare products/retailers through mobile

26% say entering personal data is not user friendly on smartphones or tablets

I personally agree with the statistics above. I love to online shop as it is very convenient, especially with a retailer who provides a great return policy. However, I never shop on my phone. Not because I do not trust it, or because I find it difficult to type in my payment preference, but because a mobile device is too small to compare products or retailers on. Many websites also do not adapt to mobile standards and look odd/different on my phone then on a desktop.

Psychological biases affect us all. This is especially true for people who own businesses.

Like studies and research, we tend to draw conclusions from limited samples and expect things to happen a certain way. But that's not the way it works.

You need to put yourself in your audience's shoes and pay attention to each customer / prospect individually. What works with one person may not with the next.

An excellent overview of the biases that affect the customer care approach!

What is Retention Marketing, and Why You Need to Start Today | Social Media Marketing Does Not Replace SEO | Scoop.it

Retention marketing, the mysterious form of marketing that seems to be popping into your favorite ecommerce blogs, podcasts, and even into conversations with your other merchant friends. The whisperings have started, but do you really know what retention marketing is?

What is Retention Marketing?
Retention marketing is a new form of marketing that is becoming more and more prevalent in the ecommerce world. The focus of this school of marketing is to create engaged customers that return to your store to shop again. It is a shift in focusing only on the acquisition of countless new customers, to also focusing on the profitability of those you already have!...

Retention marketing is a trend worth noting for its efficiency and profitability.

Everett Bowes's curator insight, February 11, 9:11 AM
- At a certain size it becomes much more difficult to grow by “adding more” than it does to grow by “getting more.” A study by Harvard found that a 5% increase in online retention can boost profits by 95 percent!- While Facebook says you can expect to reach around 16% of your audience with a post, AdAge says it is more like 6%- The trend you should spot is that it is becoming tougher than ever to acquire a customer. You need retention marketing to make each customer you do acquire more valuable. - a return shopper is 9x more likely to convert on a purchase than a first time shopper.

Four theories on the declining trust in Canadian social media

Four theories on the declining trust in Canadian social media | Social Media Marketing Does Not Replace SEO | Scoop.it

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending my seventh Edelman Trust Barometer launch event in Toronto. This year’s results are some of the most interesting I’ve seen, highlighting a disparity in trust amongst what we call the “informed” public and the mass population, and the ongoing failure of businesses to live up to the expectations that people have of them when it comes to societal good (you can see the full results on SlideShare).

One of the interesting notes in this year’s Canadian Trust Barometer results was that trust in social media has fallen over the last year. In fact, social media was the only one of the five media types we examined to experience a decline in trust....
