Nature Valley Granola Bar Maker Talks Favorite "Love Live" Girl and More on Twitter

Nature Valley Granola Bar Maker Talks Favorite "Love Live" Girl and More on Twitter | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Nic Padula's insight:

This is one of the smartest marketing plays I've seen on Social Media in a long, long time. After spending an hour on twitter talking to fans of Anime ( Japanese Animation ) the results were immense.

Before this marketing (scheme? accident?)  the Nature Valley twitter had plateaued it's growth for the last 2 months, gaining an average of only 28 followers per day. However, this has lead to a 100% increase in interactions ( from 310 to 618 engagements per post) as well as receiving the most number of RTs they have ever generated at 1,801. The closest they have been to that was 989 at 21 months ago from the support of Jo Jonas. -- wow.

Twitter's New Profile Design: 8 Points to Consider

Twitter's New Profile Design: 8 Points to Consider | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Twitter's new profile design is finally available to everyone, and it's brimming with improvements.
Nic Padula's insight:

It's been a little over two months since my last post on the new Twitter profile design. As part of the test market, I had the privilege of using the new profile while it was undergoing perpetual beta updates before being offered to the general public. If you look at my previous post, you can see my initial thoughts were extremely negative. I didn't give much insight to the article just a static "Noooooo!" and disapproval to the generic design that all social media website have begun to incorporate. Now that the new design is being offered to everyone, I decided to re-look at how I view the new profile design, which lead me to this article.

Honestly, it is more attractive, and does offer some great features

(Like Pinning a tweet to the top of your profile). This article from time.com goes more in depth of the features that the new twitter profile has to offer. After using it for the last few month, I can say I'm a fan. However, I do wish there were some more original features than doing the same "safe" improvements that every other social media site has/is incorporating.

Gmail's 'unsubscribe' tool comes out of the weeds

Gmail's 'unsubscribe' tool comes out of the weeds | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Gmail users who get frustrated trying to find the "unsubscribe" link that's often buried in small type at the bottom of promotional emails may instead start seeing it before they even open the message.
Nic Padula's insight:

As GMail unveils it's newest unsubscribe feature, it facilitates the shift from tradigital media marketing to social media marketing. The new feature will easily allow customers to unsubscribe from an entire company's email list. Currently, emailing newsletters, offers, and updates are an extremely effective way to directly market to customers. However, with the introduction of this feature, it is likely that we will see a decline in how effective email marketing campaigns are.

Although many of us can't recall the moment we gave our email to the companies that bombard our inboxes, we often neglect them until the occasional subject line  grabs our attention. Likewise, we ignore the time it takes takes to find the unsubscribe button buried in the massive amount of text at the bottom of long email notification.  As the unsubscribe button becomes available, the chances of a user unsubscribing from a company before connecting with an email increases. In turn, I project that companies will have to focus more on social media than the tradigital email campaigns. At the very least, more pressure will be put on email marketing to be more effective if they start to see a large increase in the number of unsubscribers.

The Marketing Corner: Brand Game Changers - The Epoch Times

The Marketing Corner: Brand Game Changers
The Epoch Times
Multicultural marketing is also at an all-time high. Due to the sheer size of minority groups, they have become very attractive.
Nic Padula's insight:

Very interesting article, perhaps a bit scattered. The major point that the article makes is that there is a shift from disruptive advertising in video games ( such as a banner that pops down in the middle ) to integrated placement ( such as your character lifting up a Coca-Cola can). This goes well with the old saying "history repeats itself"  as it's very similar to how advertising on television progressed. However, what concerned me about this article was it's stretch for content. Seemingly random it went from advertising in games, to saying that there are a lot of minorities and multicultural marketing is at an all time high - then the article jumps to mobile gaming rise.  I get that these are all trends but it seems more like a stretch for content ( mobile games have been on the rise for a while now)

Coming to Your Twitter Feed: Ads That Preview Company Websites

Coming to Your Twitter Feed: Ads That Preview Company Websites | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Twitter announced a new kind of ad Friday: Website Cards.
Nic Padula's insight:

Well, everyone has been talking about it for a while now: Twitter needs a way to better earn revenue. After much talk, twitter has begun to implement a few methods to make advertising more effective for marketers and more engaging for consumers. I first noticed this movement towards multi-level tweets a few weeks ago, when a tweet for an app appeared on my timeline. However, this wasn't a picture or a text ad, it was a button that allowed me to effortlessly download the app that was being promoted by opening up the download page in the app store. In addition to these app promotion tweets, twitter is experimenting with a multitude of ways that marketers can advertise on twitter. Through an embeddable button that immediately connect consumers with companies, marketers are able to promote products, websites, other twitter profiles, and a planned 15 other types of advertisements. Investors, consumers, and marketers should be looking closely at moves made by twitter for the remainder of the next year, because only time will tell if these advertisements are effective and profitable, or annoying and a flop.

Despite Twitter Backlash, New York Police Dept. Plans to Expand Social Media Efforts

Despite Twitter Backlash, New York Police Dept. Plans to Expand Social Media Efforts | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Commissioner William J. Bratton is determined to use social media to promote the New York Police Department, even after encountering a flood of negative attention on Twitter.
Nic Padula's insight:

Although the tweet was aimed to show everyday reactions with police officers which would help to humanize a force that is often criticized for using using unruly and discriminatory tactics. Although the response that followed was Immensive, the attention was not what the NYPD expected. Within a few hours, thousands of people responded to the tweet, most of which were photos of NYPD exhibiting police brutality along the #myNYPD hashtag.

This case lends itself to two questions of ethical ambiguity. First, is it ethical to launch a contests that solicits interaction from consumers who otherwise might not express affinity for their brands? Because social media engagement is used as a signal of authentic consumer interest in what brands have to say, then how ethical is it for a brand to solicit engagement merely to advance a brand’s image? Secondly, and more important, is it ethical for a brand to interact with one segment while ignoring a segment of equal population? Despite the high number of responses and #myNYPD becoming a trending topic, only 4 tweets were actually retweeted by the @NYPDnews Twitter page, while the majority of tweets were ignored completely by the NYPD due to their negative positioning.

The Future of Digital Marketing Is You – Generation Like - FRONTLINE

The Future of Digital Marketing Is You – Generation Like - FRONTLINE | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
How companies are using your personal data to predict, and influence, what you buy.
Nic Padula's insight:

Each day millions of people share text, like pictures, and interact with each other through various social networks. As the world moves towards a big brother-esq way of life, marketing firms are turning to social networks to mine data about users and demographics Professor.Michal Kosinski, deputy director of Cambridge University’s psychometrics center has been working on algorithm for a few months that analysis users based solely on their facebook likes.

with 88% accuracy, the algorithm could tell you if the user was Homosexual, and 60% accurately tell you if the users parents are divorced -- based only on the interactions one has with liking of Facebook.

Of course, this way of analyzing data will only continue to get more detailed and complex. Soon, finding everything about your target audience will be as easy as entering a few keywords into a search query. As a Marketer, I see the endless potential with this system -- as a student and american citizen ..... I'm conflicted with my privacy being violated.
