The Missing Manual for Google Hangouts Video

The Missing Manual for Google Hangouts Video | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

As a remote team of 12, we’ve come to depend on Google Hangout video calls for our weekly standup meetings. The tool is free, quick to access and familiar to everyone on the team. Though like any other video conferencing software, Hangouts comes with hangups.

Can you hear me?

Can you invite my other Gmail account?

If you use Hangouts, you’ve been there (or soon will be there). And when that day comes you’re googling incessantly looking for the answer. Hopefully, you’ll need to search no more.

The following Google Hangout video call guide shows you how to get started, invite participants, record a call, collaborate over a Google Doc and more....

Big Data Is Useless

Big Data Is Useless | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it
Big data is useless, that is unless you have a plan for how to use it to drive your business forward.
Ian@Citrus Mind's insight:

It's another inconvenient truth. Always start with "why?" - "big data" has become a mantra, often chanted to the point approaching empty slogan with a solemnity in inverse proportion to the level understanding of what it actually means and what's involved.  It's the "insight" part that is the key - and the answer only means something if it ties in with a question you really have to answer.  Small businesses that lack big data crunching and analysis resource aren't excluded from this world of insight - just keep your eye on the business objective ball, and you can uncover insight using social media listening tools, smart filters and a keen ear.

Why LinkedIn is morphing from a social network into an online newspaper

Why LinkedIn is morphing from a social network into an online newspaper | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

On May 5th, LinkedIn will celebrate its 11th birthday. It announced last month that 300 million people had signed up for the professional social network. This evening, LinkedIn will report earnings for first quarter of this year, which analysts expect to surpass the company’s own guidance.

Despite all these positive signs, there is one question that has dogged the network for the majority of its history: What is LinkedIn actually for?Establishing a clearer identity is crucial to LinkedIn’s future.

While more than 300 million people have joined, LinkedIn’s most recent filings suggest that the number of people who log in at least once a month is probably closer to 200 million. Growth in US monthly desktop users and desktop pageviews both slipped into negative territory last year (though visitors from mobile are climbing)....

Gravity Sketch Tablet Lets You Draw In Mid-Air | Fast Company

Gravity Sketch Tablet Lets You Draw In Mid-Air | Fast Company | Social Media Marketing | Scoop.it

We’re stuck in an awkward spot. We can manufacture nearly any 3-D product we’d like. But these objects are trapped behind the 2-D computer screen we design them in.

One solution is to 3-D print a plastic mock up. A more efficient solution is a new working concept called Gravity Sketch. It’s essentially a 3-D notebook. You put on a pair of video glasses, grab the stylus, and hold a tablet in your hand. Then you draw your creation in 3-D space using augmented reality--the glasses, pen, and tablet work in concert to create a digital illusion that your drawing is floating right there in front of you. But you're literally drawing on a 2-D surface....
