Responsive Web Design Infographic: Benefits and Pitfalls | Social media marketing | Scoop.it

People are increasingly using mobile devices like tablets and smartphones to browse the Web. The variety of screen sizes, resolutions, and platforms people use to access webpages has given birth to the rise of responsive Web design, where developers create one single site to function properly across all devices instead of producing multiple dedicated site designs to work with particular screen sizes and platforms.

While responsive Web design can be a great way for developers to ensure that their site is compatible with all devices, implementing it instead of targeted Web designs also comes with certain drawbacks. Here is an overview of the changing climate of Web devices, followed by tips for evaluating whether or not you should implement a responsive design.

Chenghao Shen's curator insight, August 21, 2013 7:29 PM

In the article, the author demonstrated that nowadays brands do not integrate their email marketing and social media strategies. Some business advertise their products, brands as well as logos by placing the pictures at either footer or header at every email, so she said the positioning of the pictures are actually not very appropriate. Three examples are provided to illustrate the author’s idea. The author thinks that emails should be integrated with the social environment. She also lists some advantages of having email and social integration. Firstly, as more and more people share the emails, the business brands get more exposure attracting more viewers. Secondly, as more people receive the emails, it is very likely to appeal to more new subscribers. Thirdly, every social network permits the users to connect with the contacts in a different way. In the end, the author uses a picture from Topman and she thinks the advertising strategies Topman has used is really successful in terms of combining social media and emails.

Rui Dong (1248713)'s comment, August 22, 2013 12:11 AM
Hi Chenghao, you have chosen a very interesting article that I have never thought about, which is integrate their email marketing and social media strategies. We all know that nowadays, social media is becoming more common and important for enterprise marketing strategies. Of course this strategic plan is well benefit with brand exposure, connect with audience and so on. And only put brand image as well as logos at either footer or header at every email is obviously far away enough. With the three examples that this article mentioned above, I think no matter what kind of tools that company used, the most critical point is attract people’s eye at the first time with social interesting. And the most successful case is Top Man in this article in terms of combining email and social media.
Joly Yuan's comment, August 22, 2013 2:51 AM

Secondly, as more people share the emails, it is a good way to get more potential customers. Lastly, each social network provides a different way to connect with your contacts. Then the author show three brands’ innovative way to integrate email and social media. The most impressive example is from Topman. It includes a nice email template and social icons. Ever wonder if your Facebook ads are performing better or worse than the industry standard for ROI – searching for some Facebook benchmarking data? What is the average CPM, CTR, CPC, the average cost per like, or average page like rate for your industry or business?

This graphic is based on data from Social.com’s study of 1 million ad units and over 114 billion impressions from January 1st to March 31st, 2013. The report analyzed the top 25 countries globally and top five countries per region based on impressions. All rates were converted to U.S. dollars using the average daily conversion rates during the reporting period.

You can use this data in many different ways – one of which is determining ROI of your Facebook Campaign to determine if social media is worth the ROI for your business.
